I ARRIVED AT WORK AND WAS GOING TO PARK IN MY DEDICATED PARKING SPOT. I HAD TO TURN TO THE LEFT AND TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL ACCORDINGLY, BUT A CAR WAS APPROACHING FROM THE FRONT SO I STOPPED AND WAITED FOR IT TO PASS. ... WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO CORRECT THE STEERING WHEEL FROM THE TURNED POSITION AND STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS TO AVOID HITTING THE BUILDING FULL-ON. AS I HIT THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING THE CAR CAME TO A STAND STILL, BUT THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING AT FULL REVS. I MANAGED TO FORCE THE CAR OUT OF GEAR, BUT THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING AT HIGH REVS. I KEPT PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD, AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING ELSE, THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL REVS. THE CAR WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED AS WAS THE BUILDING. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN THAT I MANAGED TO CORRECT THE STEERING IN THAT SHORT DISTANCE, AND HIT THE BUILDING FULL-ON, THE PILLARS THAT HOLD UP THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE BUIDING WOULD HAVE COLAPSED ON THE CAR. I'VE SWAPPED THE DOOR WIRING LOGIC MODULE AND THE DISCREP REMAINS WITH THE DRIVERS DOOR. I'VE REPLACED THE LATCH ACTUATOR MOTOR AND THE WHOLE LATCH ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY WITH NO CHANGE TO THE DISCREPANCY. I BELIEVE IT TO BE A WIRING ISSUE IN THE DOOR PANEL. THE DEALER CHANGED THE IGNITION SWITCH PER THE RECALL 14V567000 FOR THE VEHICLE ABOUT 2-3 YEARS AGO FOR A DIFFERENT ISSUE WITH THE SWITCH. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR ABOUT WEEK AGO JULY 30, 2020, SHE SAID SHE WAS AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A BUSY STREET (LINCOLN HIGHWAY) IN CHICAGO HEIGHTS IL AND WHEN IT TURN GREEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO GO AND THE VEHICLE CUTOFF AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ONLINE, I FOUND A LOT OF REPORTED INSTANCES OF THIS TYPE OF HEAD REST DEPLOYING WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED OR WHILE IDLE. THERE ARE YOUTUBE VIDEOS SHOWING HOW TO RESET THE HEAD REST. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID MY HEAD REST WAS BROKEN AND WOULD REQUIRE REMOVING THE SEAT TO REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE FOR OVER $900. THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS THE SAME TYPE OF HEAD REST. IT COULD DEPLOY AT ANY TIME. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. THE DEALERSHIP LEFT A VOICE MESSAGE SAYING MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING IT FIXED. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED WITH UNDER 16,000 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS UNDER 41,000 MILES ON IT. IT PASSED INSPECTION. AT NO TIME WAS I INFORMED OF A PROBLEM WITH THESE HEAD RESTS, BUT THERE IS A LOT OF DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THESE HEAD RESTS MALFUNCTIONING. THEY ARE ON MANY CHRSYLER, DODGE AND JEEP MODELS BETWEEN 2011 TO 2018 GIVE OR TAKE A YEAR. MY CAR WAS FINE WHEN I LAST DROVE IT, BUT IT WAS NOT FINE WHEN I PICKED IT UP. THERE IS NO INDICATION OF WHAT TRIGGERED THIS. ONLY ONE OF THE TWO FRONT HEAD REST DEPLOYED. I BELIEVE A SAFETY RECALL COULD SAVE LIVES AND SERIOUS INJURIES FROM HAPPENING.
