We’ve written the NHTSA in the past and have not received a response. We understand Covid was a problem that messed a lot of things up and we’ve been patient until now and we’re writing again hoping for a long awaited response. We purchased new (on 03/10/17) a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica with the factory installed tow package, which Dealer and Chrysler Corp claimed it could tow 3600 pounds, so
... we can purchase and tow a 3500 pound RV but since the van purchase we have learned that we need trailer brakes on any trailer weighing more than 2500 pounds so the van and trailer could stop safely. After much investigation and many calls with our Dealer, Chrysler Corporation and many RV Dealers, it turns out the 2017 model year that Chrysler Corporation claimed it could tow up to 3600 pounds, can not In fact safely tow over 2500 pounds without a brake controller/trailer brakes and our van, which was purchased with the factory tow package, was not designed or wired to accommodate the necessary brake controller to tow over 2500 pounds and it can not be retrofitted with a necessary brake controller. The Dealer advised taking the matter up with Chrysler Corporation and Chrysler advised taking the matter up with the Dealer, and neither will resolve the safety issue. Can you please tell us if this is a safety issue or if in your opinion we can safely tow a 3500 pound RV without a brake controller and trailer brakes or do you recommend we seek legal counsel. FIRST COMPONENT FAILURES - Passenger sliding door: a) WHILE DRIVING, the passenger sliding door mechanism engages and attempts to open the door - the driver then sees a notification "to operate the sliding door, put the vehicle in park"; b) when parked, if the door is open and we want to close it, we can engage the closing mechanism with button or fob, but then it will not stop and re-open even if
... there is an obstruction; it has closed on my wife's arm and almost hurt one of the kids. One can even try to stop the door from closing with their full body weight, or the use of the door handle, and the mechanism simply continues to closure. c) when parked, if the doors are unlocked, the door will sometimes start opening and then go into a cycle of back-and-forth opening and closing for several minutes; the only way to stop it is use the button on the ceiling to turn off the automatic sliding feature. SECOND COMPONENT FAILURE: Electrical. When we return home after driving the car, and turn it off, and go inside, the dashboard lights stay activated and the message on the dash says to depress the brake pedal and push the start button. This even happens when the keys are not present and doors are locked. We put both keyfobs on the other side of the house as a test, and the vehicle appeared ready to be started. The battery dies daily. THIRD COMPONENT PROBLEM: Suspension. This is a new vehicle we had converted into a wheelchair accessible vehicle by FREEDOM MOTORS in Battle Creek, Michigan, with a rear-entry ramp. For a wheelchair passenger in the back, the ride is extremely rough and unstable (a lot of swaying on curves). The car passed Maryland State Inspection after it was delivered to us, but we doubt validity of any safety self-certification Freedom did post-conversion. Vehicle broke down twice related to the hybrid electrical system. First Incident: vehicle would not start after being parked and turned off; upon attempt to start, vehicle displayed a "Service Electronic Throttle Control" error message in dash. Second Incident: vehicle was in motion on highway at ~65 mph, and suddenly displayed "Service Hybrid Electric System" error message in dash. Vehicle pro
... ceeded to enter into turtle mode and began deceleration which is dangerous while on highway. Took vehicle in both times to different dealers. Both dealers reported seeing error codes related to the hybrid system. Repair related to the First Incident: First Dealer flashed the BPCM module. Car ran fine until Second Incident Repair related to the Second Incident: still ongoing. 2nd Dealer reported that the 62-way wiring harness needed to be replaced. Dealer ordered MOPART replacement part number 68396626AA (the replacement part) to make the repair. At first, 2nd Dealer identified DTC codes related to the Second Incident but could not identify the issue. So 2nd Dealer reset the DTC codes without making repairs or further investigation, and attempted to get consumer to pick up vehicle. Chrysler pushed for further investigation, and resulted in identification of the wiring harness issue.Read more

This 2014 Town & Country stalls while driving, even when driving on the highway. It is extremely dangerous to me, and especially to my wife and children ! ... ctual problem is a defective cylinder head on the left bank. This was determined by a cylinder leak-down test, which shows that #2 exhaust valve is leaking compression. This defective left (#2,4,6 cylinders) cylinder head is well known by all FCA Dealers. My dealer says that ALL of his mechanics have a great deal of experience doing this defective cylinder head replacement. Tens of thousands of left cylider heads have been replaced under an EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM, issued and approved by FCA, which extends engine warranties on their 3.6 LITER ENGINES to 10 YEARS or 150,000 miles. When I try to get my vehicle's defective cylinder head replaced under the EXTENDED WARRANTY FCA PROGRAM, FCA says that they will only replace the defective cylinder head on 2011, 2012, and 2013 vehicles ! They will not cover my vehicle ! Please help, before this engine defect causes a major accident for my family.Read more

While driving, my car will accelerate when depressing the brake. If cruise control is set to say 60 mph, the car will continue to accelerate well after the desired speed has been reached. When pressing the brake to disengage cruise control, the car will still try to accelerate for about 10 seconds, even while depressing the brake. I'm not sure if that is related to this, or if it is a separate is

My car has stalled several times in the middle of intersections, on a busy highway coming to a red light or slowing down because of a hazard in front of me, and at stop signs. I also check my oil regularly, and do routine oil changes. When I check the oil, and when I have my oil changed, the oil level is almost ALWAYS low, and has even been completely empty a couple times. I've confirmed that there is no leaking under the car. Sometimes I smell burnt oil coming from my car. I fill the oil up, and less than a month, and the oil is almost gone. More worrisome to me, is the fact that even though the oil was completely empty, my oil light never came on. So it was by luck that I checked the oil and noticed that it was empty because I wouldn't have otherwise known. On warm days, the sliding door on driver's side will not latch when it closes. The door constantly tries to latch shut. I here to report what seems to be an on-going issue with the older model Chrysler 300's. I have an 2006 and just recently started smelling gas fumes or an gas odor inside my car. I had a mechanic look at the problem. He assumes it was a cracked or damaged seal. He took the backseat out and looked. The ring was intact but the fuel filter had a small crack in it. Now,i see that gas isactually leaking from the underside of the rear passenger side. And the smell is still there. I am taking the car to another repair shop to do a more through exam of the car. TOOK TO MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS AND THEY BOTH SAID IT WAS THE WAY THE 9-SPEED AUTOMATIC BEHAVED. A VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BEHAVE IN A WAY THAT IS A SAFETY CONCERN. THEY COULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS THE VEHICLE ITSELF.
