I was driving on a 40 mph road when the minivan flashed a message on the dashboard that the engine was off and I needed to put the car in Park to restart it- essentially the car stalled while I was driving 40 mph. Luckily it was 10 pm with few cars around and I was able to merge across 4 lanes and turn on a side street as the car rolled to a stop against a curb. I tried for 5 minutes to do as the
... car message was indicating- put the car in Park, turn the engine on, but the car would not return to normal function, Drive would not engage, the car would not accelerate. Eventually I got the car to successfully turn off, turn on, and engage in Drive mode, and I was able to drive the rest of the way home, however the engine light remained illuminated the entire drive (the car's app calls this the "Malfunction Indicator Light"), and I was very nervous about the situation repeating and not being in a position where I could easily pull over, so I took the smallest side streets I could to wind my way home in case I had to pull over again with a moment's notice. I checked the car the next morning- the engine light is still illuminated. I called the dealership and they told me the earliest diagnostics appointment they could offer me is 7 weeks from now, and the best advice they could give me was that as long as the engine light was not "flashing" then it was not imminently dangerous to drive, and that it could be "anything" (possibly minor) causing the engine light to be illuminated. I am afraid to drive the vehicle in case this happens again and they are offering me a 7 week wait to have something done about it. Forums I read have said this is a common, documented problem. This is a supremely dangerous event depending on where one happens to be driving at the random moment that the malfunction takes place.Read more

I own a 2012 Chrysler 200, That I Purchased Used but in excellent condition from a reputable dealer, and had a private pre-purchase inspection by a Mechanic (showing no major issues, and I have that report). I drove my car for just around 10-14 months, performed regular maintenance, and had no issues mechanically or otherwise. On the date this Incident occurred I had travelled in the car throughou
... t that day doing some shopping (and the vehicle ran perfectly). We got home around 8:45pm, I dropped my nana off, and got in the car to go get some dinner. While still on my road (which is dark, curvy, has drop offs and no shoulders) as I rounded a curve my car with NO WARNING, completely died. I lost engine power, power steering, lights, headlights, and my brakes became incredibly weak. I could not be seen be seen by other motorists could not use my hazards, and just by dumb luck I made it over the hill with my momentum and had to struggle( NO Pwr. Steeing) to steer across the other lane on a blind curve with no lights, I was nearly hit by another driver, and got into a vacant lot and required my brake + Emrg. Brake to get the car stopped before it hit the structure on the lot. (I know for a fact I had no warning either mechanically or warning light - because I was looking at my dash panel checking speed at the time of failure) I had to have it towed home. A mechanic diagnosed it as a TIPM failure. After researching I found that this was a widely known/occurring failure on several Chrysler branded vehicles, It is a serious safety hazard for obvious reasons - I nearly got hit myself. Chrysler even recalled the faulty TIPM's on some of their BRAND NEW models but refuses to help owners who's cars are 4-5+ years old. And I can't even spend the Ludacris amount of money for a new one because without a recall and resolution of the defect, I'm just buying another Defective TIPM for $1000+ dollars. This is not only a danger to those in defective cars but others on the road.Read more

The transmission pump failed suddenly, resulting in severe slippage in the transmission and loss of motive power for the vehicle. The vehicle struggled to stay up to road speeds on the highway until I could get it parked in a safe place to get my family out of the vehicle. Later on that day, I tried to take the vehicle around the block, to which it barely would make it back to it's starting poin
... t it was slipping so badly. A local Chrysler dealer has diagnosed the transmission is bad specifically citing a bad pump in the transmission. There were no warning lamps or indicators alerting us to this problem, just the sudden failure of the transmission putting me and my family in an unsafe situation. This vehicle meets all the criteria of a Chrysler Town and Country listed on Recall 16v-461 (S44 within FCA's nomenclature). The build date of our van falls squarely within the build date window listed in the recall. Recall states 7/31/15 through 4/18/2016 build dates are affected--our van states Build date of 11/15 on the door jamb. However, after contacting multiple dealerships and Chrysler themselves, they claim our van is not a part of this recall as the VIN number is not associated with the recall. I don't understand. The recall calls out the failure of the transmission oil pump, and that is the exact part that has failed on our van causing an unsafe sudden failure of the transmission in our van. I think it is a failure on FCA's part to not associate all the vehicles with this recall that in reality should be associated with this recall. This is wrong.Read more

This car is totally unsafe and is going to cause serious injury. When initially trying to accelerate this car jerks uncontrollably and doesn’t go. I can’t come to a complete stop at a stop sign then go when it’s my turn without the car talking a big stalling
... leap of death. Not to mention when coming to a stop it often cuts off due to something being wrong with the oil system causing it to burn too much oil. I’ve never had a car that I had to put oil in continuously even though my oil changes (via Chrysler) are on time. Horrible thing is Chrysler says they know the car does this but won’t FIX IT!!! While driving down the interstate, the moonroof glass spontaneously shattered. There are three pieces of glass on the roof, and it was the center one that failed. The car was about 16 months old with just under 10,000 miles, almost all of which was low-speed, city driving. At the time of failure, we were about 650 miles into a cross-country road trip and traveling on roads with an 80 MPH speed lim

A Chrysler dealer sold us the replacement part and verified that there were no signs of any external cause that led to the failure. Chrysler denied a warranty claim, stating that "sunroof is most probably an outside influence as it cannot break easily as per IRF (Independent repair facility)."Read more

On three recent, separate occasions, the vehicle has lost acceleration while making a left hand turn from a stop (date listed for this incident is most recent). No visual or aural warning indications have displayed on the dash during or proximate to these incidents, but the car felt like it went out of gear while making a normal left turn. Pushing or releasing the throttle only affected engine R
... PM, not any acceleration, so it felt like we were only coasting. It lasts longer than a normal shift, more than a few seconds, before power is sent to the wheels again. On two of the occasions there was oncoming traffic approaching the intersection. If the power had died any sooner in the turn I'm not sure I would have cleared the intersection in time with what little speed I had gained, increasing the risk of collision. I am taking the car to the local Chrysler dealership tomorrow for inspection and hopeful diagnosis/repair. I can't replicate the issue on demand, but after 3 separate occasions, it is an unmistakable feeling. Based on the clunky, jerking shifting into gear that sometimes occurs with the vehicle outside the above-described incidents, I believe it might be transmission related, but I can't be sure.Read more

Intermittent steering failure when travelling at high speeds At speeds above 40 mph on long sweeping curves, after initiating a turn, the steering wheel exhibits a "notchy" or "catching" resistance to input when returning the wheel to the neutral (straight-ahead) position. This feedback impacts steering wheel movement resulting in a dangerous over- or under-correction to steering. The vehicle
... was brought to 2 different Chrysler dealers to diagnose the issue. The second dealer replaced the steering rack and pinion assembly at the owner's cost. Various internet sources show numerous customer complaints about the same steering issue for this year/make/model, so this serious safety problem is not unique to this particular vehicle.Read more

My van has a leak at the valve seat in cylinder 1 on the intake side. It has been inspected my a mechanic and available for anyone else to look at it. My car is not old and low mileage. The mechanic said he had someone recently in with the same problem on the 3.6L engine, same year, same low mileage. This causes a problem because the combustion is not properly working in the engine so it has a hea
... lth hazard for everyone because it has a larger and worse carbon footprint because the engine is not working/functioning properly how the car manufacturers intended it to be. I have searched forums and have found multiple people having the same problem with the cylinders. I believe the problem to be with the engine head because the mechanic said when he fixed the other engine he had to get the head off and get it re-machined. Also people are having the misfire in different cylinder. No warning lights were on before the issue happened.Read more
