We are the 2nd owner of 2021 Kia Soul bought in July 2025. Took to a dealership for open recalls shortly after purchase. After supposedly passing the piston ring recall (NHTSA 21V259) for the next several months after it had severe oil consumption but other wise drove fine. Then immediately after our last oil change on Feb 13, 2026, less than 10 miles later the car stalled and was knocking badly.

The vehicle displayed multiple malfunction warnings including “Shift System Fault” and messages indicating the vehicle was not in Park even when the shifter was in the Park position. The dealership, Hansel Ford of Petaluma, verified the concern and referenced Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 23-2249 related to internal transmission components, including the valve body and park pawl actuator system. The dealership confirmed that when the vehicle is placed in Park, it may actually remain in Neutral. This creates an additional safety risk of unintended vehicle movement. This issue presents a serious safety hazard due to: •Sudden loss of propulsion in traffic •Vehicle disabled in active intersections •Extended inability to restart •Potential rollaway risk due to Park malfunction The vehicle is currently pending major transmission-related repairs. While traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour on a public highway, the vehicle’s hood suddenly and violently flew fully open without warning. This resulted in an immediate and complete loss of forward visibility while the vehicle was in motion.The hood had b
... een properly closed prior to driving, and there were no warning indicators, unusual noises, or prior issues suggesting a problem with the latch mechanism. This event appeared to involve a total failure of both the primary hood latch and the secondary safety latch system, which are specifically designed to prevent this type of occurrence. The incident created an extremely dangerous situation with a high risk of a catastrophic collision, serious injury, or death to myself and other motorists. I was fortunate to maintain control of the vehicle and safely slow down without a crash. This was a near-miss catastrophic event caused by a critical safety system failure. A hood opening at highway speed creates total loss of visibility and represents a severe hazard to roadway safety. The vehicle is currently being preserved without repair so that the failure can be properly evaluated. Two times in the past month my gas pedal has gotten stuck after I fully engaged it getting on the highway. It should be noted, recall 23S65 has already been done prior to this incident. On 12/27/2025, while driving northbound on I65, south of Louisville KY, I lost the rear differential. I was in the middle lane and had to get over to the emergency lane while towing an unloaded flatbed trailer weighing about 4000 lbs. I was almost struck by a couple trucks but was able to get over into the emergency
... lane. I had my passenger check the differential and saw that while in “drive” the driveshaft was turning freely while I was still stopped. I was able to get the truck off the highway by putting it in 4wd and use the front wheels to drive. I do not remember any warning lamps during this incident. I found a dealer that was close by (Town and Country Ford Louisville) and parked the truck. A week later the dealer confirmed the axles shafts had broken and would need replaced. These are the same axles that were replaced in accordance with the recall. As of 2/16/2026 Ford still does not have any axles for replacement and they are on a national back order totaling over 63,000 units.Read more

The steering started to shake. The car seat started to shake as well. It felt very unsafe, but there was no serious injury. John from Feldman Chevrolet in New Hudson, Michigan said that there is a "Cylinder 1 misfire code". After the car started shaking, the engine light came on. Unresolved recall for second row seats in a MINIVAN that has to transport small children in car seats. Using the seats will put them at risk. Using third row is inconvenient. Keeping van on dealer lot for months on end will be bad for battery, etc. No timeline for repair. The reason we purchased the vehicle is unusable and a major safety concern.

The ICCU component popped and blew seconds before I entered the on ramp for an interstate. My car immediately entered "turtle mode" and capped my speed at 10 mph. I crossed 4 lanes to get out of the turn ramp and get to a parking lot. The car alerted and stopped driving as I pulled into the lot. The rear differential had a contained catastrophic failure. The vehicle had been serviced according to the manufacturer schedule and by their own dealers. The car had never been off road. The failure occurred at 106,500 miles and 6.3 years.

Currently showing DTC P219B (O2 Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Lean – Bank 2 Sensor 1) along with P0430 . For prior years thru 2019, Honda has issued Service Bulletins 19-072 and 20-100 covering DTCs P030x, P219A, and P219B, which may involve PCM software updates, a Cylinder A/F Test, and potential injector replacement. However, they have not issued bulletins for 2020. My car only has 58,000 miles.

Later, I re-entered the vehicle, started it and began slow speed maneuvering (<5mph) in my driveway, where in, I accidentally bumped the cruise control “Resume” switch, at which time the vehicle began to accelerate, unexpectedly. I stepped on the brake to regain control. No accident occurred. This happened a second time upon my return from the local supermarket. In my opinion, the cruise control should return to the OFF mode when the engine is turned off and not remain “On” and ready to “Resume” after the engine has been cycled. The passenger side low beam headlights failed at roughly 100k miles. The replacement part and labor quote from the dealership was roughly $1,500. I was able to find an OEM part online for $800 and install myself. Roughly 12,000 miles later the driver side low beam headlight has failed which will require a replacement as well.

I was driving in town, less than 35mph, slowing down to stop at a traffic signal, when my engine stopped and a message came up on my dashboard that said something to the effect of "auto stop start, place transmission in park and restart engine".
