I own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado with approximately 84,000 miles. Prior to the engine failure, I noticed abnormal engine ticking noise, especially during cold starts. I reported this concern to the dealership during a service visit. The technician verified the engine noise but stated that the noise was normal and no repairs were performed. Over time the condition worsened and the vehicle began exp
... eriencing engine misfires and internal engine damage. Diagnostic inspection later revealed oil contamination and cylinder wall scoring requiring full engine replacement. Additionally, while driving on a public street, the serpentine belt suddenly came off the engine without warning. This created an immediate safety concern because the belt powers critical systems such as power steering and engine cooling. Losing these systems while driving could cause loss of vehicle control. At the time of the incident, my children were in the vehicle and there were pedestrians and other drivers on the road. The sudden mechanical failure created a dangerous situation that could have resulted in a crash or injury. No warning lights or messages appeared on the dashboard prior to the engine failure, and the check engine light never illuminated. Because the engine concern had previously been reported and dismissed as normal, the problem continued to worsen until catastrophic engine damage occurred. I am submitting this complaint because I am concerned that this may not be an isolated issue and that similar engine failures could pose a safety risk to other drivers.Read more

On Monday, April 6th, I was turning into a parking lot and the braking system, specifically the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake control module, appeared to malfunction. While driving, I received a warning indicating the ABS was off, and the brake pedal became soft with reduced stopping ability. The check engine light also came on. I had to coast the vehicle to a complete stop.
... The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The loss of normal braking function significantly reduced my ability to stop the vehicle safely, increasing the risk of a collision. This created a dangerous situation for myself, passengers, and other drivers on the road. Brake failure at any speed presents a serious safety hazard.I am aware of similar complaints reported for this issue. My vehicle was towed to and inspected by a dealership where it sat overnight before being diagnosed; however, they were unable to reproduce the issue at the time of service. Despite this, the braking failure did occur and remains a safety concern. The service advisor told me to "bring it back if it happens again" and that it "lost communication with the EBCM" which sometimes happens. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps or other symptoms of this problem prior to the failure.Read more

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the message “Reduced Acceleration - Drive Safely” was displayed. The vehicle then started shaking abnormally. The contact pulled into a nearby parking lot, turned off the vehicle, and waited for a while before restarting the vehicle. After restart
... ing the vehicle, the warning lights remained illuminated, and the vehicle continued to shake abnormally. The vehicle was taken to Auto Zone, where a certified mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was a bent rod inside the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnostic result and that the failure was causing additional damage to the crankshaft. The dealer determined that there was a misfire in the engine and that the valve lifter was malfunctioning. The contact was informed that the lifter and the camshaft needed to be replaced, and the engine needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched and became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the dealer to inquire about a Goodwill Repair for which the contact could be reimbursed if the VIN was later added to the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.Read more

I am writing to formally file a safety complaint regarding a catastrophic engine failure in my 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with a 6.2L engine. The vehicle had approximately 9,640 miles at the time of failure. On March 21, 2026, while driving on a highway, the engine failed suddenly and without warning, creating an unsafe and potentially dangerous situation. The vehicle lost power and had to be
... towed from the highway to Colussy Chevrolet for inspection and repair. On March 22, 2026, the dealership confirmed that the engine required full replacement and stated that a new engine had been ordered, with an expected arrival date of March 30. I specifically requested that a new engine be installed, given the extremely low mileage and severity of the failure. Approximately one week later, I followed up and was told the engine was still scheduled to arrive on March 30. However, on March 30, I was informed that the order status had changed to “under evaluation,” and the Service Manager indicated that the replacement engine would likely be a remanufactured unit instead of a new one. On April 1, 2026, I contacted General Motors Customer Support to escalate the issue and reiterated my request for a new engine, as well as requested a loaner vehicle due to the loss of use of my vehicle. A representative opened Case #92297395 and advised that the issue had been referred to the Parts Delay Department, with a promised follow-up within 24 hours. On April 2, 2026, the dealership informed me there was no change in status and that while they intended to provide a loaner vehicle, none were available. As of April 6, 2026, I have not received a loaner vehicle or any follow-up regarding availability. On April 6, 2026, I received a call from a General Motors Customer Assistance representative stating that there are ongoing delays related to both the engine and radiator, with no estimated timeline for repair completion.Read more

On March 6, 2026 exactly one month ago from today, I was driving my Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 with a 6.2 liter gas engine to a family vacation. We were traveling at posted highway speed approximately three ho
... urs from our home. There was a whine from the engine compartment that got progressively louder in about 30 seconds. Then the engine began to lose power. We were near a chevrolet dealer so I pulled in the service bay, where the technician swiftly told me to cut off the engine, that my crankshaft was broken and it lead to catastrophic engine failure. The vehicle is available for inspection at the same Chevrolet dealer we visited one month ago. My family's safety was put at risk because we were traveling at highway speed and the vehicle witnessed catastrophic engine failure. Due to catastrophic engine failure, the engine has not been turned on by the dealer since departing the service department. The vehicle was been inspected by the service department at a certified Chevrolet dealer. Interestingly, there were no warning lights or any type of warning other than the severe sound coming from the engine compartment. Prior to engine failure, there were no other symptoms of the problem other than the low pitched whine that progressively got louder over a ~30 second period of time. What is happening with my vehicle is a major safety concern in my opinion for myself and for my family. I purchased the vehicle on February 18,2026 from Ryan Ford in sealy,TX with approx 32,800 miles. The first incident was on March 16 with 33,718 miles, my daughter and I went to leave the Lowe’s parking lot and my vehicle would not go in reverse. It however would go in drive, so after being pu
... shed back out of the parking spot we left for our home.(this part of not going in reverse I do have on video) Once on the feeder road and up to approx 45mph my vehicle went completely out of gear and had to coast to a stop on the side the road. Turned vehicle off and on and it went back in gear, after making it home I made and appointment with the dealership and dropped it off that day. I was informed no codes came up and the dealership could not get the issue to duplicate so I received my vehicle back. The second incident was on March 21 trying to leave the convenient store, I put my vehicle in reverse and pressed on the gas to go backward and nothing happened. Then I pressed on the gas again and it threw my vehicle in reverse and jolted my truck back several feet before I could press on the brake. Luckily no one or no object was behind me. The third incident was on April 3rd trying to leave Walmart. My truck would not go in reverse again. I pressed the gas pedal several times and out of nowhere again it threw itself in reverse and jolted my truck back again. (I also have this on video as well).Read more
