I got a warning from my car a little over a week ago (around 6/1, unsure of exact date) that I needed to service the battery charging system, but then the check engine indicator light shut off and so did the warning light. The hybrid battery took a charge with no issues after that. Then, I left work the evening of 6/9 and drove home. On my way home, the check engine light came back on, followed
... by warnings that I needed to shift to park. Before I could pull over, my car stopped moving. Cars had to stop abruptly behind me and navigate around me into incoming traffic. I shifted to park, then tried to turn my car off and on again. I tried to switch between the gas engine and the battery, I tried to move my vehicle in any way. I couldn't get it into neutral to push it out of traffic. I turned on my hazard lights and a person came out from his house to assist in directing traffic away from my car for about an hour while I waited for a tow truck to arrive. The kind bystander who directed traffic and I were very concerned about a car accident happening due to my stopped vehicle. A police officer stopped by to check on us and try and get my vehicle into neutral but he was unable and said he was on his way to a 911 dispatch so he did not write a report of any kind that I could see. He told me the vehicle placement was not safe and I agreed with him. The tow truck came as he was leaving. The dealership I sent my car to said it is likely a short circuit in the 12v battery but I know the BECM in the Chevy Volt is known to cause similar behavior. Dealership refused to service the BECM when asked about it.Read more

I noticed that the oil was low, however we did not have any visible leaks at our home. I added 3 quarts of oil and the vehicle began making a ticking noise. I asked Siri to locate the nearest auto repair shop (Quality Auto Repair) which was approximately .5 miles away from our location. The mechanic on duty informed me that it was the engine and that because I was under 150,000 miles I could take it to a Kia dealership to have this replaced because it was a GDI engine. Instead continuing our trip south, we decided to head back toward home to take our van to a Kia dealership near our house. Approximately 42 miles into our drive back home the vehicle began to idle and then smoke came from the engine. I pulled over to the side of the road and opened the hood to investigate the potential problem and then suddenly flames came from beneath the van near the engine. I asked my wife and 14 year old daughter to exist rapidly. My wife had no issues, however we couldn't open my daughters door. She was able to successfully climb to the front and exit out of the passenger side safely. Within 10 mins or so, 70-75% of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Prior to pulling over, none of my indicators were illuminated so there was no warning until the vehicle completely shut down. My insurance company has assessed that this is a total loss. I was making a right turn and my signal started flashing faster than normal and stated service passenger front turn lamp. There is no way of service without replacing the entire headlight which is $2000.00 for one side. It’s a major safety concern when I have no turn signals on the front which could easily cause a crash. It also is a concern of being pulled over by any law official for something that I can not control and it’s not like I can just go to a local parts store to get a bulb on a weekend due to a poor design by General Motors. Other trucks of the same year with the same headlights that I have are being recalled due to the same issues but since my build date doesn’t fall into that category they do not want to take the responsibility of making things right or help prevent safety incidents from happening that could cause harm their customers and innocent bystandersRead more

I was later told they did a wheel alignment, but the issue remained. This was the second time they returned the vehicle in an unsafe condition. I nearly crashed due to how unstable it felt. In May 2025, I brought the car back again. Tanner suspected the steering column but said no diagnosis was done. He gave me a loaner vehicle, which had a flat tire. I had to drive my own unsafe car for nearly a month while waiting for another loaner and parts—no resolution during that time. On 6/13/2025, I contacted the Tesla Glendale Service Center. The advisor expressed frustration, saying this collision center often offloads unresolved issues. I also contacted Tesla Support (877-798-3752), who advised me to file this NHTSA complaint. As of June 2025, the issue is still unresolved. My car continues to sway and veer dangerously on the freeway, and Tesla North Phoenix Collision has failed to properly diagnose or fix it despite multiple returns. This vehicle is unsafe to drive, and I’ve been given excuses for over 7 months. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

At around 61,000 miles, I noticed a whining sound in the vehicle when accelerating. I took the vehicle in to a Toyota dealer for diagnostics and their technicians indicated that my vehicle had transmission failure and it needed to be completely replaced - quoted at $8,000 to do the replacement. Diagnostic appointment also cost $174. Parts are on back order and no one could tell me when parts would
... come in - guess was one month. In reality, parts are now finally in (I'm about to take it in to be fixed) after 2 months. I was told by the dealership that I could drive it at my own risk of failure - if it were to fail, I would be stranded wherever that may be putting my family and those around me at risk due to the unknown nature of when that could happen. This failure is recorded for the same model and same UA80 transmission on several online forums: [XXX] The vehicle has been inspected by a Toyota dealer as I stated previously. Diagnostic report says "Internal component failure. Recommend transmission" No other warning lights or messages from the car to warn me of this problem even now. Just the whining sound from the failure itself. Keep in mind, Toyota's powertrain warranty period is 5 years or 60,000 miles - this vehicle just surpassed both of those limits as this problem came about. In December 2024, all of the lights on my dashboard came on & my car would not accelerate. The code indicated that it was a "Cylinder 2 Misfire." Then, in May 2025, the car did the same thing with all of the lights coming and the car would not properly accelerate. The car again read that there was a misfire with "Cylinder 3" but all of the ignition coils worked properly. I had the fuel injectors replaced and another spark plug replaced. The car didn't even make it 24 hours before all the lights came on again. The RPMs in the car now go past "3" but will not accelerate & shift gears. The Honda Dealership has advised me that the head gasket needs replaced. My car has 74,000 miles on it. I had it inspected April 2024 with no head gasket issues & the car was at 64,000 miles approximately. So, in 8 months' time, the head gasket was blown & the car is well under 100,000 miles. I have been told that the engine my car has, 1.5L turbo with Honda has had this issue to the extreme that a class action lawsuit has been filed as Honda refuses to do any time of recall or assist with repairs. I literally had to drive with my 4 ways on to avoid being hit in an intersection due to the inability of my car to accelerate. The NHTSA needs to investigate Honda & determine if they are defrauding consumers by refusing to issue a recall due to this common & dangerous issue. I have owned 7 hours in the 30 years I have had a driver's license & never once had a head gasket issue or any issues to this extreme. I have never replaced a head gasket in any car that I have owned.Read more
