The defect was not caused by geography, state lines, or ownership history. The BECM is a manufacturer defect, and it failed for the same reason thousands of others have failed: poor design and inadequate durability. Whether the car was first sold in California, Colorado, or Kansas is irrelevant—the failure is GM’s, and the repair obligation should be GM’s as well. By denying coverage on a technicality, Chevrolet is undermining the very purpose of the extended coverage you required: to protect owners from footing the bill for a well-documented, widespread, and unsafe defect. Their position leaves me, and others like me, bearing the costs of GM’s engineering failure. It could take up to two weeks for the part. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My safety and my husband’s safety were at risk because we had to drive the car home. Our lives were at risk if the brakes failed. We took it to Key Motors a Chevy dealership in S. Burlington, VT. He said they would have to diagnose it themselves and the part could take two weeks or more. We cut our vacation short and could not stay in VT that long. We are elderly and did not have enough medicine, not to mention the cost of hotels. The VT dealer said without the computer, the car defaults to the driver like a 1980’s car. We took our chances and drove it home. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, but many people online have complained of the same problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? We had it towed to our local dealership, Bob Johnson Chevrolet. They just sent us a bill for $214 for certified multi point vehicle inspection. I still don’t know what problem. Onstar diagnosed it as ABS braking and stability diagnostic code; an issue has been detected in the Antilock Braking System. This is not even my fault and its a big safety issue. I ended up paying $1400 for the whole thing since i am in need of a car right now for all the doctor appointments and i didn't even got a rental car while the repair is going on which is like 4 days. My children are frequent passengers in the backseats of this vehicle and I have safety concerns that should an accident occur, the seatbelts malfunction and are not actually keeping my children safe as expected with a seatbelt. I filed a complaint with Hyundai. I requested a Goodwill request and was just informed today. It was denied due to not enough maintenance records. I had the oil changed regularly on that car. Turning a corner my left axle broke and I only have 3100 miles on this vehicle. Still is not fixed because of warranty issues. When I do get it back I don’t know how I’m suppose to feel safe driving it. Upon checking on YouTube and Internet I see there is a problem with this happing to others. Thank you for your time.
