I purchased a used 2017 Ford Escape SE with EcoBoost engine (2.0L) at 58,000 miles in April of 2024. In September 2024, the check engine light came on, followed shortly thereafter by overheating of the engine. This overheating would cause the engine to go into limp mode on the highway, which happened multiple times. When inspecting the coolant tank, it was discovered that coolant was leaking out,

The issue was determined by both the Ford dealership and a third-party mechanic to be coolant intrusion, requiring replacement of the engine long block. Upon researching the issue, discovered that Ford's customer service program 21N12 covers replacement for engines of this year and model, but was informed by Ford that recall/replacement was not covered as the engine on my vehicle was not 1.5L. Clearly, whether the engine is 1.5L, 1.6L, or 2.0L, the issue exists. The $8,300 fix has created a serious financial burden, as I had to pay out-of-pocket to fix Ford's known mistake. There is currently a class-action lawsuit against Ford for this issue: [XXX] , et al. v. Ford Motor Co ([XXX]). In the class-action, it is reported that buyers' engines have burst into flames due to this issue. In my case, the vehicle went into limp mode on the freeway, and could easily have caused a serious wreck - I am thankful that I was able to get the vehicle off of the road and into the shop before there was a wreck. I pull over as far as I could safely since I couldn't see. The driver of the Jeep got out of her car and inspected it, she came back to the passenger side of my car and said that she was in a rental, there was no damage and couldn't afford to turn in accident in so she had to leave, and left the scene. Both my cousin and I were feeling pain in our chest so when 1st responder came, he called for an ambulance. We were both taken to Eskenazi ER where my cousin was treated and released the same day. I was admitted into the hospital ICU and had emergency spinal cord surgery on [XXX] and wasn't released until [XXX]. After the accident, I saw a few messages that were sent to my GMC account inbox dated October 8, 2025 saying that my airbags may need to be serviced, after the accident happened. The local Kia service department says they are not trained to fix many EV problems, so corporate has to be involved, but corporate has not provided material assistance. Corporate has been informed in writing several times of the issue, including that this is a material safety issue, particularly since the vehicle is marketed toward families where a seatbelt indicator may be relied upon by drivers, and it's unclear whether this is strictly an electronics issue or a seatbelt functionality issue. My 2017 Honda CR-V experienced premature and sudden fuel injector failure that I believe is part of a widespread defect affecting 2017–2019 CR-V models. In April, multiple warning lights came on several times (“10-point” dashboard lights). I went to different mechanics, and one recommended a brake fluid flush, which I completed. The vehicle still moved but did not feel safe to drive, so I cautiously limped it home and canceled clients. I took the vehicle to South Point Honda in Durham, NC. Their diagnosis confirmed that all four fuel injectors had failed, and they quoted $1,679.99. I then had the repair completed at a Honda/Acura specialty shop for $1,273.12. Fuel injectors are not a regular maintenance item, and many other CR-V owners have reported the same problem. These injector failures can cause misfires, loss of power, or engine damage while driving, which is a safety concern. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate premature injector failure in 2017–2019 Honda CR-V models.Read more
