I am reporting a potential safety defect involving the seatbelt, airbag, and occupant detection system in my 2019 BMW 430i. At the time of purchase, the vehicle’s software had not been updated since 2018. Because the software was so outdated, multiple safety-related fault codes did not appear during the dealer’s pre-sale inspection or during initial diagnostic checks. During a later service a
... ppointment, the dealership informed me that they were unable to perform accurate diagnostics because the software was old and could interfere with sensor readings. After I paid for the software update, several safety-related codes appeared, including faults connected to the seatbelt/occupant classification system. None of these safety defects were disclosed to me prior to the sale. This raises concern that the vehicle had an existing safety defect at the time of sale, but the outdated software prevented the detection and reporting of these faults. If other vehicles are being sold without current software, this may result in safety-critical issues being hidden from consumers and inspectors. A malfunctioning seatbelt or occupant detection system significantly increases injury risk in a crash. If outdated vehicle software suppresses or fails to display safety-critical faults, consumers may unknowingly be operating unsafe vehicles.Read more

I have several issues. 1. An independent auto shop noticed all 4 of my shocks were leaking when they did an oils change and tire rotation recently. I have had my other oil changes and rotations at the dealership prior to this and they never mentioned it. I’ve tried calling my dealership svc dept. about it 4 times now with no call backs. 2. The new tires that came with my jeep from the fact
... ory only lasted about half their treadwear. I had to replace prematurely at 30,000 miles bc they were causing a “deathwobble” on my jeep at speeds of 60-70mph and they were also messing with my alignment which I paid the dealer to try to fix but they’ll couldn’t bc it turns out it was the tires the whole time but they’ll couldn’t bc couldn’t figure this out. The independent tire shop figured it out. 3. This is the most worrisome They just sent me another recall about the high voltage battery pack being dangerous and poasibly catching fire. It says not to charge it or park it near structures. This is the 2nd or 3rd recall of this sort and it’s not allowing me to use the electric features on my vehicle which I paid extra for when I bought it and I pay yearly for with insurance and taxes.. I need compensation or a vehicle exchange or a buyback so that I can use my vehicle as it is intended to be used. This is a clear violation of that. Please help me!Read more

The windshield wipers also pause or stop for a moment when this happens. None of these issues existed before the recall. GM has already told NHTSA that they have hundreds of field complaints about flickering headlamps on 2024 trucks, and they identified lighting flicker as a safety defect. My symptoms match those issues exactly. The dealer refuses to accept responsibility, saying the recall is “closed,” but the electrical failure only began immediately after their programming. The vehicle has an active safety recall related to a potential high-voltage battery fire. The Telemetry/OnStar unit stopped working on my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali. This renders the OnStar unit unusable for both data and calling OnStar. In the event of an accident, the driver could not call OnStar for help and OnStar would not get an automatic notification that there had been a crash with the vehicle's location. The failure of the unit has also caused a code indicating Low Brake Syst
... em Voltage. I know that is not the case in my vehicle at this time, but if the brake system does start to fail, there is no way to know if the code is real or just a result of the Telematics system failing. This failure occurred shortly after an Over-The-Air software update GMC sent out. I have seen numerous reports of people with the exact same year and model having the same issue. The unit worked fine for 2.5 years and after the software update, it was bricked. GM wants in the neighborhood of $1,000 to replace and install the unit but they are on backorder with ETA's 3 or 4 months out. They are also coded with the VIN so there is no other option than to go to the dealership for repair. The part cannot be ordered from an aftermarket manufacturer or from GM's official parts website, local dealership only. In order to get this important safety feature working again, the only option is to go have it fixed at the dealership, which charges $200/hr in labor on top of the $500 part needed. The 3-4 month backorder should be enough evidence that GMC has had a widespread failure of these units. GMC basically broke the Telemetry/Onstar units with a software update and wants it's customers to pay for their mistake. If this is not considered an important enough of a safety feature for NHTSA to do an investigation on, this matter should be investigated as an illegal business practice with the FTC or Department of Justice. GM has effectively created a problem (through the software update) that only they can fix and then charging customers whose warranty has expired.Read more

For the first time I purchased a brand new vehicle off a dealership lot…What a mistake. While the dealership itself was an awful experience I thought it was worth it for a Chevy Silverado. The check engine light was now on. I dropped the vehicle off at the dealership over the weekend and on Monday they called and informed me the 2024 Silverado misfired once and nothing was wrong with the transmission. There was nothing they could do. About two months later I was driving to work as a career firefighter/paramedic when my vehicles check engine light came on and a message informed me that I was in “reduced acceleration mode”. I slowly and carefully made my way to work and brought the truck to the dealership after my shift. The check engine light was now on again. They informed me later that day that I had a faulty valve body in my transmission. They “unfortunately” could not give me a completion date on my repair as they had no ETA for the replacement part. It appears the part is in high demand. This makes sense as a quick google search shows this is a widely known issue with the 10 speed transmission. So far I have been unable to get a rental vehicle between the dealership and GM. Aside from my house my 2024 Silverado is the largest purchase of my life. And at 15,000 miles I am without it for the foreseeable future. As a first responder the communities I serve depend on me to respond from home at any hour. My family and I are living in a DIY renovation while also starting a farm business. I need a dependable vehicle and regret spending $53,000 on a new vehicle. I have more to say.Read more

We had snow this afternoon and my wife drove the car home from work. We live on a private road and have a steep driveway. I had her park the car in the road while I plowed the driveway. There was only 1-2” of snow on the ground. My wife existed the car. It appeared to be off and in park meaning the engine was not running and the car sat still on a grade. In hindsight, I should have had her
... set the park brake. My wife went down to her house taking her key with her. I was plowing the driveway. The car had been sitting still on the road for at least 15 minutes. When I was plowing, I had the other key in my pocket. When I got next to the car while still operating my plow, I noticed the taillights came on. Next, the car began rolling down the hill on its own. Nobody was in the car. I was chasing the car. I noted the rear tires were rolling. They were not sliding. The car contained to roll forward then veered towards the side of the road that has a steep ditch. The car then slide sideways down the embankment and stopped at the bottom of the hill. Fortunately, the car did not rollover. Had it been dry and now snow, I think it would have rolled over sideways due to the steep pitch but instead it slid in the snow. I think I was lucky and there is no significant damage but I have not fully retrieved the car out of the ditch yet. I suspect the car was in the start stop mode and possibly my wife did not put into park before exiting the car but this could be easily done since it has the push buttons shifter and the engine was off. Not sure if this is what happened, it’s just speculation. This could have been much more serious if this happened with other people or cars around.Read more

I purchased a Ford Ranger truck with an EPA/NHTSA fuel economy label stating 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, 22 mpg combined. In reality, despite proper maintenance, the vehicle achieves only 16.26 mpg combined and as low as 14.72 mpg in city. While I understand fuel economy varies, this discrepancy is significant and may pose safety concerns. I relied on accurate fuel economy estimates to plan tr

I request NHTSA review whether Ford’s labeling practices meet regulatory standards and whether corrective action is warranted. I have taken the Ford Ranger to two different dealerships. One, Ford Automation, Frisco, Texas, refused to investigate what might be the issue, as they stated that was normal for the Ford Ranger. The second dealership, Five Star Ford, Dallas, Texas, reported in their tests they were averaging 26.1 mpg, combined. They did not tell me how they arrived at that figure. My Jeep has had 3 PTU replaced in its life, the third one has failed and I'm now left either putting in a 4th or junking it, either way I take a loss. The 2nd PTU failed over a long period of time, the 3rd PTU failed a week past my 1 year warranty coverage and it did so abruptly. I have written in before regarding this vehicle but I write again due to the danger of this failure. The PTU rattled,
... grinded before seizing all tires and motion. I was lucky by myself and my child wasn't present and that I wasn't on the interstate (had gotten off moments before it failed) and in a quiet neighborhood. I lost all momentum forward even giving it gas. Had I stopped abruptly on 380, going 60 mph... I would have rolled the vehicle or another would have rear ended me and I might not be here today. When my father and brother arrived on the scene we had to push it while I laid on the gas to unlock the wheels and then delicately maneuver it closer to the curb. The grinding occurs in both neutral and drive. There were no warning lights, no prior indication of failure. Insurance doesn't cover this because I wasn't in an accident either time, there are no warranties left, I still owe on my vehicle and repairs will cost more than the vehicle is worth. I was quoted $9,000 to have it replaced plus no ETA on when they could get the part in. Not only can I not afford to replace at that cost vs vehicle value, I wouldn't have mode of transportation for who knows how long. I missed the original manufactures recall by months, yet my vehicle has had more PTU's than one should ever have. If I could get a message back regarding this situation, ASAP that would be great.Read more

The car is scheduled to be diagnosed next week by Simmons Rockwell Hyundai in Elmira, NY. These symptoms are similar to the hundreds of other reports of ICCU failures in this car and similar models. On Sept 10, 2025 the car was previously issued software updates to the ICCU software , which were required under NHTSA Recall Number 24V868000. If this problem is proven to be an ICCU failure, the experience with this car is an example of the 2025 software update failing to prevent the ICCU Failure. I request swift action from the NHTSA to compel Hyundai to implement a permanent fix for my vehicle and all other afflicted models in order to make Americas roadways safe again. Until then, everyone should be extra careful when driving behind a Hyundai Ioniq, 5 because it is at risk of dying and coming to a complete stop at any moment. Hyundai is a large corporation and has the resources and technology to fix this, but they have not done so, despite there being more than 300 complaints to the NHTSA about these cars at the time of this writing.Read more

Unable to smoothly and safely accelerate from a stop. If you apply the lightest possible touch to the throttle the vehicle will surge and have a shuttering feeling, not smooth or linear, once pressed slightly further the truck accelerates in an unsafe fashion both forward and reverse . Hooking up a trailer is very dangerous as are all maneuvers when pulling away from a stop.
