Defrost on car suddenly stopped working. Defrost is on, motor is running yet windows are not defrosting causing minimal visibility
Incident date: Sep 10, 2026
While parking the vehicle, after putting the transmission lever to park, and turning off the ignition, the doors unlocked and I started to exit, at that moment the vehicle started to roll backwards. I was able to avoid running over myself and got back into the driver's seat when I saw a "shift to park" message on the dashboard display. It took multiple cycles of restarting and stopping the engi
... ne and shifting to park to actually have the transmission shift to park. The problem continues and is becoming much more frequent and taking more attempts to actually put the car in park. This is obviously a safety issue, because drivers may exit their vehicles and may or may not realize that the ignition is on, that the battery can run down and strand them, possibly in a dangerous location, or the vehicle can move, injuring themselves or others. Also the door locks won't work. This is a well-known problem among multiple General Motors models. It is a systemic design flaw of the switch, not a random breakdown and not caused by abuse or misuse. Some vehicles have been recalled, some of the same model and year as mine. But, the recalls are specific according to VIN, and yet for some unknown reason, my specific VIN is not recalled. The problem is known and well documented. The solution is known. The safety problem is known, but apparently only if the VIN is in a certain range. All VINs matter. I will take my vehicle to an authorized dealer for repair. But there should be a recall and repair for all vehicles with this known (defective by design) switch. Also there should be full reimbursement to those who have already paid for repairs.Read more

Statement for NHTSA Subject: Safety Complaint – 2021 Chevrolet Silverado Unexpected Jerking/Harsh Transmission Engagement I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2.7L Turbo with approximately 128,000 miles. My vehicle has developed a recurring problem involving harsh/jerking transmission engagement, hesitation, shuddering and abnormal shifting. The truck can
... jerk when engaging or changing gears and has also experienced a hard engagement when shifting from Reverse into Drive. During normal driving, the vehicle can hesitate or feel as though it is repeatedly fluttering/shifting instead of providing smooth and predictable acceleration. The vehicle has produced diagnostic trouble codes including P0700, U0100 and P0420. I am concerned that this condition could create a safety hazard, particularly if the vehicle unexpectedly jerks, hesitates or fails to respond normally when accelerating or changing gears in traffic. I am requesting that NHTSA document this complaint and review whether there is a pattern or potential safety-related defect involving transmission engagement, shifting or drivetrain control on 2021 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles. GM has published service information concerning delayed and harsh transmission engagement on certain Silverado applications, including 2019–2021 models, which makes me concerned that my vehicle may be experiencing a related issue. I am retaining my repair records, diagnostic information, receipts, videos and mileage/date information documenting when the problem occurs. I am willing to provide this information if requested. Please help me get my truck corrected, I love my Chevy Truck. Thanks Sincerely Michael FieldsRead more

Vehicle: 2020 Chevrolet Blazer V6 System: Electronic Transmission Range Select (ETRS) – Gear Shifter / Park Engagement Concern Type: Potential Unintended Vehicle Motion / Failure to Confirm Park State Description of the Issue On the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer V6, the Electronic Transmission Range Select (ETRS) system fails to confirm that the transmission is in Park, even when the physical gear shift
... er lever is placed in the Park position. As a result The dashboard displays a "SHIFT TO PARK" warning message in the Driver Information Center (DIC). The vehicle continues to beep after the ignition is turned off. The vehicle does not fully power down, remaining in accessory/ON mode because the ETRS system has not received a valid Park confirmation signal from the shifter position sensor. This issue presents a potential Unintended Vehicle Motion (UVM) hazard for the following reasons: 1. Vehicle May Not Be Secured in Park The "SHIFT TO PARK" message indicates the ETRS system does not confirm the transmission is in the Park state. If the park pawl has not fully engaged — even though the shifter appears to be in Park — the vehicle is not mechanically secured. On any inclined surface, this creates a risk of the vehicle rolling away, potentially injuring the driver, bystanders, or causing property damage. 2. Driver May Exit Vehicle Believing It Is Secured The persistent beeping and DIC warning are intended to alert the driver that the vehicle is not in Park. However, customers may not understand the warning, may dismiss it, or may exit the vehicle assuming the shifter position is sufficient. This is a known human factors risk — the driver's perception of being in Park does not match the system's inability to confirm Park engagement. Vehicle Cannot Be Powered Off Normally: When the system cannot confirm Park, the vehicle remains in an active power state. This means the vehicle's propulsion system is not fully disabled, increasing the risk of unintended movement if the driver exitRead more

While operating my vehicle, I experienced a sudden, catastrophic failure of the power-assisted braking system. The brake pedal completely lost hydraulic pressure, plunging effortlessly all the way to the floorboard. The vehicle failed to respond to normal foot-pedal application. Emergency stopping power was only achieved by pushing the pedal into the absolute floorboard, which engaged an emergency
... mechanical override and forced the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) pump into a violent stutter/pulsation to halt the vehicle. No dashboard warning lights, diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), or fluid level sensors illuminated prior to or during the braking failure. A certified automotive repair facility diagnosed the root cause as a total internal seizure and mechanical failure of the engine-driven brake booster vacuum pump. Because the vacuum pump is driven directly by the engine, its sudden lockup sheared and severely damaged the drive slots on the exhaust camshaft, necessitating an intensive engine teardown, camshaft replacement, and secondary component repair totaling $2,390. This design poses an extreme, life-threatening safety risk. The total loss of braking assist occurs without warning, and the mechanical failure simultaneously compromises internal engine timing components while moving at speed.Read more

3rd failure of EGR valve (GM part 12691147, superseded by 19436521) on this vehicle. 10/10/2019 at 11,336 mi: Check Engine Light and Driver Information Center displayed "Loss of Propulsion" message; EGR valve diagnosed as cause and replaced by dealer under warranty at no cost. 11/2023 at approx. 30,000 mi: EGR valve failed again; dealer stated OEM part was no longer available from manufacturer due
... to supply shortage and installed a third-party replacement part; repair not covered, paid out of pocket. 8/26/2026 at 49,864 mi: EGR valve failed a third time; a used, refurbished part was sourced due to continued unavailability of a reliable new OEM part, with repair scheduled for 9/14/2026, again paid out of pocket. This is a known, recurring failure on 2016-2019 Chevrolet Volts, referenced in GM Technical Service Bulletin 19-NA-206. The failure does not present only as an emissions fault — it triggers a "Loss of Propulsion" driver warning, indicating a direct impact on the vehicle's ability to be safely driven. Sustained unavailability of the OEM part is forcing owners toward third-party or used/refurbished parts of unknown long-term reliability, at repeated cost to the owner, in order to keep the vehicle operable.Read more

Tahoe was purchased new in November 2024. Vehicle currently has around 37,000 miles and has been regularly serviced by GM dealers. On Sept. 9, 2026, was driving in moderate rain and wipers just stopped working. After stopping at a nearby gas station for about 5 minutes or so, the wipers again began working. I am currently having intermittent wiper failure. Sometimes they are really slow even on th
... e “high” setting. Something is wrong with them and fuse was checked and is good. This creates a very dangerous situation that could cause serious injury or death if the wipers (on a new $80,000 vehicle) suddenly stop while driving in rain. This is a serious danger to public safety and GM needs to issue a recall for a fix. Research online indicates GM is aware of the issue under TSB PIE0774, but is not offering resolution to vehicle owners. As well, online research shows a class action lawsuit is pending. The NHTSA needs to take prompt action and direct GM to correct the matter for public safety.Read more

Came off the parkway and came to a stop at a stop sign. As I attempted to accelerate forward the truck shuttered violently, did not move forward and then slammed into gear. As it slammed into gear it jerked forward. The force of the jerk pushed me back in the seat and caused the steering wheel to turn. About 100 yards later I came to a stop in traffic. As I attempted to accelerate the same inciden

After the second incident anytime I same to a stop and attempted to accelerate forward the shutter was no longer present but the truck would not move at first and would then slam into gear and jerk violently. This would occur in drive and reverse. I brought it to the dealership and they diagnosed that it needed a transmission. The service writer even told me it bucked so hard while the technician was moving it that it almost put him through the steering wheel. The truck is currently having the transmission replaced at Greenbrook GMC. Estimated repair cost is $9400 plus taxes and fees. Can provide invoice and bill once repair is completed.Read more

My 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST with the 6.2L engine experienced an engine seizure. The engine was replaced by a Chevrolet dealership under a GM safety recall. Immediately after picking up the vehicle following the recall engine replacement, the truck stalled while still in the Chevrolet dealership parking lot. There was no warning before this first stall. We continued our trip because we did
... not realize at the time that the stall could indicate a problem following the engine replacement. During the drive from [XXX] to [XXX], the problem continued. In [XXX], the check engine light illuminated and the truck began malfunctioning. The vehicle subsequently stalled again. The problem continued after returning to [XXX]. A Chevrolet dealership in [XXX] inspected the vehicle and reproduced/confirmed a problem involving the camshaft position sensor wiring/connector. The dealership demonstrated the problem by manipulating the connector/wiring and recorded a video of the diagnostic procedure. The vehicle is currently at the Chevrolet dealership and is available for inspection. The affected component should also be available for inspection because it has not yet been repaired. The [XXX] dealership has characterized the wiring/connector condition as normal wear. However, the first stall occurred immediately after the GM recall engine replacement, while the vehicle was still on the repairing Chevrolet dealership's property. Unexpected engine stalling creates a serious safety risk because the vehicle can lose propulsion without warning while driving, including at highway speeds or in traffic. I am concerned that the camshaft position circuit/wiring/connector problem may be associated with the recall engine replacement procedure or replacement engine. I recently took my vehicle in for maintenance work on my transmission. I was informed that my vehicle was showing code P0747 which was under a special coverage warranty by GM. I then took my vehicle to our local GM dealership and was told that my vehicle does not qualify for the special coverage warranty N242454441 because my VIN number was not attached to the parts and the best I could do was con
... tact GM. I reached out to GM to see if I could get a clearer understanding and my claim was denied. I spoke with a very helpful lady that informed me she would have their area technician reach out to me to see what could be done. After a few voicemails he did return my call to let me know GM would not be helping with reimbursement because the VIN was not attached to the part numbers. He ended with telling me that parts wear out and there was no proof that our 2022 Chevrolet Diesel Silverado 1500 was included in the special coverage warranty. I am reaching out because this is the second time we have had issues with trying to get recalls/warranties covered by Chevrolet and not been successful. I am currently looking at GM's special coverage N242454441 - This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 15 years or 150,000 miles (240,000km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. Vehicle owners or lessees who paid for repairs referenced in this Special Coverage (“Customers”) are eligible for reimbursement of their reasonable and customary expenses in accordance with the procedures specified below. The conditional right to reimbursement is provided by GM solely in the interest of customer satisfaction and is personal to Customers. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. Please explain to me why my vehicle is showing this code and once again I am being told I will get no help from Chevrolet? This is a problem and I feel that we fall under this warranty.Read more

The electric power steering / steering gear assembly exhibits mechanical binding ("sticky steering") and completely fails to return to center. When going around a curve in the road, the steering wheel "memorizes" or holds the turned angle and will not unwind or self-center like it used to and as I would expect it to. I'm having to apply continuous, deliberate manual counter-steering to bring the v
... ehicle back to straight. The steering also has a distinct "notchy" or sticking sensation when making small steering adjustments that make clear audible clicking or knocking sounds at lower speeds. The issue began intermittently from my recollection around early 2026 and has grown progressively worse. It's most certainly progressed to feeling like a serious safety hazard by potentially causing significant driver fatigue, over-correction, and difficulty maintaining lane discipline, increasing the risk of lane departure or an inability to complete emergency evasive maneuvers. I will have a teenage driver soon and would not feel comfortable with her driving this vehicle in its current state. I verified that all "driver assistance" features were disabled and were not the cause of the mechanical resistance. No warning lights or error codes have illuminated. I need to get it fixed, but for the time being, the vehicle and its original steering components are available for inspection if that is useful.Read more

I have been told the engine needs to be replaced under the special coverage program (N252494003). The L87 recall inspection and oil change was completed on XXX also by Rick Hendrick Chevy. There were not warning lights or other symptoms leading up to this engine failure. The symptoms of struggling to start and the ticking noise as 2200 to 2700 RPM started that weekend before I brought to dealership. They got progressively worse. Dealership has said I will receive a new engine under warranty but no timeline for completion. Additionally I have not been furnished with a service loaner or option for one. Leaving me with no vehicle to replace it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more
