Component/System Failure: The main components that failed or malfunctioned include the vehicle's charging system and battery management system, leading to significant range discrepancies and charging issues. Additionally, the coolant system issue suggests a failure in the vehicle's cooling system. These systems are available for inspection upon request to further diagnose and address the underlyin
... g problems. Safety Risks: The safety of the vehicle's occupants and others was put at risk due to the potential for being stranded in unsafe or remote locations, as experienced on [XXX], in Pennsylvania. The inability to reliably charge the vehicle and the coolant system issue could also pose a risk of overheating, potentially leading to engine damage or failure while in operation. Problem Reproduction/Confirmation: The range and charging problems have been repeatedly reproduced and confirmed by both dealership service departments and independent service centers during multiple service visits. The coolant system issue was also identified and addressed during these visits, indicating a persistent and recurring problem. Inspections: To date, the vehicle and its components have been inspected by dealership service departments on several occasions as part of the attempted repairs. There have been no specific inspections by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others outside of these service visits. Warning Lamps/Messages/Symptoms: Prior to the failure, there were instances of warning messages related to the vehicle's charging system and battery health. The first indications of these issues appeared shortly after purchase, escalating to the point of the vehicle being stranded due to insufficient charge. The coolant system issue was initially noted without specific warning lamps but was confirmed upon inspection during a service visit. The NEW car battery was replaced by seller early in the first year. The car would not start after stopping. Now the same again dead battery symptom reappears. Early on, once the car stopped running while I was in

The last few recharges have only lasted days. I'd say the battery is now gone. And now also, when the battery is charged, the rear hatch will not open. This is a big concern. Dependent upon who you talk to at the Subaru Dealers, you will get numerous answers for this concerns. Buy another car? As to the rear hatch, the Manual shows I can just pull a cord on the inside. On [XXX], I was driving on [XXX] near Pasadena at normal speed of traffic when suddenly an error message “Hybrid System Malfunction” appeared on the dash board along with check engine light, and the car began to stall slowing down to nearly full stop almost immediately. When I pressed gas pedal, it would not accelerate. Because I was in the far right lane, I had just about enough time to pu
... ll over onto the shoulder before the car stopped completely. The car was in EV mode (using all electric power) when this incident occurred with 20 miles of electric range still left. I was lucky that no cars were right behind me as the traffic was moving about 60 mph or my car could have been rear-ended when it came to such an abrupt stop. I put the car in park and turned off the engine, then turned it back on after a couple of minutes. The dashboard was flashing “Hybrid System Malfunction” and “check engine” light was on but I was able to drive it because it had switched to gas power mode. I immediately drove the car to New Century Mazda in Alhambra where I purchased it on [XXX]. The Mazda app on my phone captured two Vehicle Issues Detected at the same time: Hybrid System Malfunction: There is a possibility of restricted power output” and “i-ACTIVSENSE malfunction.” The Hybrid System Malfunction was the most serious and frightening of a series of malfunctions that my car experienced since it was purchased two months ago. On [XXX] (4 days after purchase) the car displayed “Approaching Vehicle Audible System (AVIS) Malfunction,” on [XXX], a “Brake!”light came on when we started the car after it had been parked, which disabled the steering wheel and the gear shift preventing us from driving (problem resolved by turning the car on and off several times). On [XXX], another vehicle issue was detected: “Air bag system and seatbelt pre-tensioner system malfunction.” Car was fully inspected by Mazda dealer in mid-January.
