on 5/15/25 at approx. 11am the vehicle was seen with smoke rolling out of the doors and windows, which were all closed. The vehicle had been parked since approx. 8am that day. Once the FD had the fire knocked down, they found that a seat belt retractor module, replaced in 1/2025, was most likely the cause for the fire and damage. The locking mechinisms were metled and unable to open either the dri
... ver door (where the fire had occured) or the front passenger door. The FD was only able to gain initial access to the vehicle by breaking out the driver window and the back passenger window. There were no warning signs of this happening. The vehicle is currently sitting with an auto body shop for an estimate of damage. Had the driver been in the seat they could have received severe burns, smoke inhalation or worse with the doors unable to open.Read more

The vehicle has spent significant time in the shop, impacting usability. On May 20, 2025, my wife experienced a sudden shutdown at a busy intersection while merging onto a high-speed road. The vehicle lost power without warning, stranding her in a hazardous position. She exited to direct traffic, risking a collision. After ~5 minutes, she restarted it, and the system prompted her to reset the front windows’ limits, suggesting a computer issue. This post-recall failure indicates unresolved defects. These incidents—computer replacement, engine seizure, and shutdown—show a pattern of unreliability. With 87,000 miles, lemon law eligibility may be limited, but GM should have offered a buyback earlier given the history. These failures pose serious safety risks.I urge NHTSA to investigate potential defects in the 2022 Escalade ESV’s engine and electronics. I also seek guidance on whether GM should repurchase this vehicle to ensure safety. Please confirm receipt and advise on next steps. I can provide service records.Read more

I am the owner of a 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV equipped with the 6.2L V8 (RPO L87) engine, which is now subject to NHTSA Recall Number 25V274 and GM Manufacturer Recall N252494000 due to a known defect in the connecting rod and/or crankshaft components. Their justification is that the “remedy is not yet available.” However, GM’s official NHTSA filing explicitly states that the recall remedy includes initial inspection, and that vehicles passing inspection will receive a higher viscosity oil change, new oil cap, oil filter replacement, and owner’s manual insert. I have expressed my safety concerns directly to dealership management, stating that sudden engine failure poses a severe risk to myself and my two young children, especially during highway operation. Despite these concerns, I was denied service, told inspections cannot begin, and informed that no timeline for inspection is available. I am requesting NHTSA intervention to ensure GM and its authorized dealerships comply with the recall remedy procedures immediately, including the inspection phase outlined in GM’s public filings. This refusal to inspect my vehicle under an active recall, while knowingly acknowledging the risk of propulsion loss, presents an unacceptable safety hazard to my family and other drivers. Please escalate this issue and require GM to take immediate corrective action.Read more

At 22,000 miles, driving along at approximately 40mph, vehicle felt like it surged - check engine light went on and message of "limited acceleration - drive with care" appeared. Key cycled the car, CEL and message remained. Car would then not drive higher than 3rd or 4th gear and at limited speed as I tried to get it home. Once I pulled into my driveway message appeared "Service Transmission

There are no available parts anywhere in the country and was told this could be a long wait for repair. Upon searching, there are 2020-22 GM vehicles with similar issues like Chevy and GMC where they have recalled the valve body, but the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V is not included in this and likely should be. My dealer told me my CT5 is not the only one they have currently waiting on this exact part.Read more

This is an update to my original NHTSA complaint submitted on May 5, 2025 (complaint number 11658852), regarding a complete electrical failure in a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. While parked in a garage, the vehicle experienced a full shutdown—rendering all systems inoperable, including the door locks and windows. Most alarmingly, a [XXX] child was trapped in the back seat due to the doors being electro

This severed connection resulted in the complete loss of vehicle power and emergency functions. Since that time, I have discovered multiple similar reports from other Lyriq owners online describing full system shutdowns, locked doors, and failures to start—many of which are shared on public forums such as Reddit [XXX] ). This suggests that this may not be an isolated case but rather a potential systemic defect in the Lyriq's wiring harness design or electrical architecture. I am extremely concerned that this failure mode could occur while driving, particularly at highway speeds, and would result in loss of steering, braking assist, and emergency exit options. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue further to determine whether a recall or manufacturer communication is appropriate. This vehicle is currently with the dealership, and I have refused delivery until GM provides formal safety assurances. The main driving display in my 2024 Cadillac Lyriq has faulty software or light sensor calibration - the vehicle automatically dims the screen (including the speedometer) to unreadably low levels, is extremely slow to respond to changing lighting conditions and time of day (the display changes between day and night modes automatically but is constantly confused by lighting conditions). This happen
... s most often at dawn and dusk. I will be driving in bright sunlight with the sun glaring in my eyes, and the screen will think it's night and be dimmed way down to about 20% brightness. Customers have no way of overriding this. There is no setting to disable automatic brightness, and some customers have taken the time to manually unplug the daylight sensor on the dash to resolve their issue. Additionally, the system is extremely sensitive to going under overpasses, which will immediately dim the entire system to about 20% brightness and stay that way for a long time after returning to bright sunlight. This also happens when pulling into my garage, where the display dims down so low that I am unable to see the safety cameras around the vehicle in order to park my vehicle correctly. GM has been made aware of this issue, and they've been aware of it for years. I've spoken to GM directly, and they say, "a fix is coming," but it's been years and nothing has been done. They've issued multiple software updates, none of which address the problem so far. Subsequently released vehicles, like the Optiq, have this issue resolved. GM knows how to fix it, and that's an issue; they just do nothing about it. This is a very well-known, very widespread issue for other Lyriq owners. You can find chat chains on Reddit discussing this issue, and even one where multiple owners talk about starting a class action case on it as it involves vehicle safety. I'm attaching photos of what my display looks like when the sun is out in the morning. It displays the same behavior at dusk.Read more

On several separate occasions, my Cadillac CT 6 which has been under recall for months by General Motors does not have an adequate repair for the repair shops authorized by the manufacturer, namely GM franchised Cadillac dealer repair shops and hence I am unable to have my vehicle repaired because the franchised GM dealers inform me that due to the recall and General Motor’s refusal or inability
... to provide specific reason for the transmission failure and the automobile not being able to shift into park when it is on an incline has rolled backwards when my door was open. I was attempting to get out of the car when it began rolling backward I was able to step on the brake: I would’ve been severely crippled or killed. Further to the preceding I have contacted CEO Mary Barra pertaining to the preceding and an executive inquiry person named “Thomas” informed me he will call me back with a resolution and has not done so. I do not have any other vehicle. I am a [XXX]. I have [XXX] and I cannot utilize my car safely and General Motors: Refuses to give me a replacement car, refuses to provide the franchisee with a written cause for the failures and solution for their mechanics to fix the vehicle, and therefore I respectfully request that the manufacturer be mandated to buy this vehicle back for its full purchase price: that they sold it to me defective knowing that there was a defect in this transmission and that they previously have covered up engine failure when the CEO was Mary Barra, the CEO again is Mary Barra, and she authorized General Motors to pay to the federal government $900 million because General motors “covered up” the engine defect in 2015 and approximately 3 to 4 years later in 2018–2019 CEO Mary Barra & GMC commit recidivism and in 2025 place me in harms way. I emailed Mary Barra directly as well as called her office and she refuses to inform me what the cause of this failure of the transmission and powertrain is.
