NEEDING TO ADJUST THE HARNESS HEIGHT ON MY BRITAX MARATHON CHILD RESTRAINT, I UNINSTALLED THE SEAT; IT HAD BEEN INSTALLED USING THE LAP/SHOULDER BELT, FORWARD-FACING. IN TRYING TO REINSTALL THE SEAT, THE FORWARD-FACING BELT LOCKOFF WOULD NO LONGER GRAB THE SEAT BELT WHEN IN THE CLOSED POSITION; THE BELT REPEATEDLY SLID THROUGH THE LOCK OFF, DESPITE NUMEROUS (MORE THAN TEN) ATTEMPTS TO SECURE IT.

IF IT IS AN INCOMPATIBILITY ISSUE, IT SHOULD BE CLEARLY STATED IN THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO WARNING AS TO THE POTENTIAL FOR INCOMPATABILITY OR HOW TO IDENTIFY IF THAT IS AN ISSUE. EVEN THOUGH I AM RECEIVING A NEW PART, I DO NOT HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE LOCKOFF AS A MEANS OF SECURING THE SEAT. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR SEAT BRAND NEW AT THE END OF FEBRUARY OR BEGINNING OF MARCH THIS YEAR AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT UNTIL LAST THURSDAY (DEC 6). LAST THURSDAY I WAS STRAPPING MY TODDLER INTO THE HARNESS AND PULLED ON THE STRAPS (AS USUAL) TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE TIGHT. THE STRAPS CAME COMPLETELY LOOSE - THE LOCKING MECHANISM FOR THE SAFETY HARNESS DID NOT LOCK AT ALL. I RETIGHTENED THE HA

DEC. 10) I TOOK THE CAR SEAT DOWN TO THE LOCAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (UW CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL) AND GOT A CAR SEAT TECHNICIAN TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE SEAT. HE SAID THE LOCK/RELEASE BAR BARELY HAS TO BE LIFTED UP AT ALL FOR THE HARNESS TO BE RELEASED. HE THINKS THE BAR IS NOT GRIPPING TIGHTLY ENOUGH AGAINST THE HARNESS WEBBING, AND SO WHEN YOU PULL ON THE HARNESS THE BAR RELEASES AND THE HARNESS COMES LOOSE. THE CAR SEAT TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED THAT I CONTACT BRITAX FOR WARRANTY WORK, I CALLED THEM THIS AFTERNOON AND THEY ARE SENDING ME A SHIPPING LABEL TO SEND THEM THE SEAT.
