HARNESS LOOSENING ON ITS OWN IN A BRITAX FRONTIER 90 CLICKTIGHT CAR SEAT. BUCKLE THE CHILD IN AND ADJUST HARNESS TIGHTNESS TO PASS THE PINCH TEST AT THE COLLAR BONE. BY THE TIME CHILD ARRIVES AT THE DESTINATION, THE HARNESS IS NO LONGER TIGHT ON THE CHILD. THIS IS HAPPENING ON EVERY RIDE. CHILD CANNOT REACH THE ADJUSTMENT BUTTON. LUBRICANT FROM THE SEPTEMBER 2015 REMEDY KIT WAS STILL PRESENT IN THE SPACE, NO FOREIGN OBJECTS OR EXCESS DEBRIS WAS AROUND THE ADJUSTER, AND THE RED ADJUSTER BUTTON WAS ABLE TO FULLY CONTACT THE METAL ADJUSTER BUTTON. WHEN THE SEAT WAS REINSTALLED, THE HARNESS WAS TESTED, AND TIGHTENED TWICE BEFORE FAILING AGAIN. THE RED ADJUSTER BUTTON WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AGAIN WHEN FULLY INSTALLED. ON THE EVENING OF 12/28/15, MY FAMILY WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR SEAT DROVE TO OUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE. UPON ARRIVING IN THE PARKING LOT AND STOPPING THE VEHICLE, WE RELEASED THE RESTRAINTS ON THE CAR SEAT. UPON RELEASING THE HARNE
... SS BUCKLE, THE BUCKLE SIMPLY FELL AWAY AND DROPPED FREE ONTO THE CAR SEAT. THE HARNESS BUCKLE WAS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE CAR SEAT. UPON EXAMINATION, I FOUND THAT THE STITCHING ON THE WEB STRAP WHICH SECURES THE HARNESS BUCKLE TO THE CAR SEAT HAD FAILED. THE WEB STRAP FEEDS THROUGH THE HARNESS BUCKLE AND IS THEN STITCHED TO ITSELF. THE STITCHING ON THE WEB STRAP JUST CAME APART. AS THE CAR SEAT WAS UNUSABLE, I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND DROVE OUR SECOND VEHICLE BACK TO THE STORE, SO THAT I COULD SAFELY BRING MY SON HOME. TO SAY THAT MY WIFE AND I WERE A LITTLE DISTURBED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT, HAVING DRIVEN OVER 50 HOURS IN THE PRIOR MONTH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS TRAVELING TO SEE FAMILY IN PA. MY SON WAS NOT HURT OR OTHERWISE INJURED AS A RESULT OF THE HARNESS BUCKLE FAILURE, BUT I FELT THAT I SHOULD REPORT IT TO NHTSA. THE NEXT DAY (AS BRITAX CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ONLY AVAILABLE LIMITED DAYLIGHT HOURS) 12/29/15, I CONTACTED BRITAX CUSTOMER SERVICE BY CALLING THEIR TOLL-FREE NUMBER (888-427-4829) AND SPOKE TO A YOUNG WOMAN NAMED [XXX] (?). I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION, GAVE ALL THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE CAR SEAT AND EVEN E-MAILED PICTURES. SHE OFFERED TO EITHER REPLACE THE HARNESS BUCKLE OR THE CAR SEAT.
