I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BRITAX BOULEVARD CHILD SEAT, AND A FEW WEEKS AFTER I RECEIVED THIS RECALL NOTICE. I CALLED BRITAX ASKING IF THEY ARE GOING TO FIX THE SEAT SO I WILL BE ABLE TO USE THE SEAT AFTER MY SON REACHES 50 LBS THEY SAID YES BUT WITHOUT THE TETHER. IN MY PROFESSION AS A FIREFIGHTER I HAVE SEEN CHILDREN INJURED BECAUSE THE TETHER WAS NOT IN USE. I WOULD LIKE BRITAX TO FIX MY SEAT OR RE

WHAT??S WRONG DURING PRODUCT EVALUATION, BRITAX DETERMINED THAT UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES THE TOP TETHER HOOK MAY OPEN OR BREAK AND RELEASE FROM THE TETHER ANCHOR. THIS SITUATION HAS ONLY BEEN DEMONSTRATED WITH THE CHILD RESTRAINT INSTALLED FORWARD FACING, USING THE TOP TETHER ATTACHMENT, WITH A TEST DUMMY SIMULATING A CHILD WEIGHING GREATER THAN 50 LBS. IF THE TOP TETHER HOOK WERE TO BREAK, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE CHILD RESTRAINT MAY MOVE FROM THE UPRIGHT POSITION TO A RECLINED POSITION. WITH THIS CONDITION, THERE IS THE INCREASED RISK OF INJURY TO THE CHILD. WHEN PULLING ON THE BELT TO TIGHTEN THE STRAPS ON OUR BRITAX DECATHALON, THE HARNESS ADJUSTER BROKE AND PULLED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE UNIT. THE HARNESS ADJUSTER WAS THEN NO LONGER USABLE. NO CRASH OR INJURY. HOWEVER, WHEN BUCKLING DAUGHTER INTO BRITAX HUSKY, (WE HAVE USED FOR YEARS) ONE OF THE ENDS OF THE STRAPS CAME COMPLETELY OFF. APPARENTLY, THE LOOPED END SLIPPED OFF THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE TWO ENDS OF THE STRAPS ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT. I BELIEVE THE LIST BRITAX WAS LOOKING AT WHEN I WAS GIVEN THE 40 LBS LIMIT INFORMATION WAS OUTDATED! TO MY KNOWLEDGE BRITAX ADVISES AGAINST THE USE OF A LOCKING CLIP WHEN THERE ARE LOCK OFFS, AND WITH THE ENCLOSED BELT PATH I WAS UNABLE TO USE THE RETRACTOR AS THE LOCKING MECHANISM.
