During driving, especially when it is cold outside, the Subaru Eyesight Pre-Collision system (automatic emergency braking) can be triggered by exhaust smoke from a vehicle in front of it. The braking system can be falsely activated, which could cause your vehicle to be hit from behind. There is no way to adjust the sensitivity of this system. It is only meant to be activated by objects, but since
... the system is camera-based it might think that a large cloud of exhaust is actually solid. In the specific instance when this happened, I was waiting at a red light behind a GMC Acadia. When the light turned green, a lot of exhaust came from that car, and the pre-collision braking was activated, causing the car to activate the brakes very abruptly. At the next light, the same thing happened, but the car didn't hit the brakes that time since I lifted off the accelerator, but the warning buzzer still activated. Video showing the problem: [XXX] The loud grinding noise after the pre-collision warning beeps is the sound of the brakes when they are applied by pre-collision. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Pre-collision prevention How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Vehicle can stop unexpectedly which could cause a rear-end collision. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

I purchased a 2015 Acura RDX used for my kids to drive. A year after owning it, I noticed the headlight output was poor. Things came to a head when my 16 year old son came home and told me he felt unsafe driving. The car currently has 120,000 miles on it. I tried multiple headlight restoration kits and several replacement bulbs but nothing helped. After digging deep into various forums, I learned
... the root cause is the deterioration of the reflective material inside of the headlight housing. I called multiple locations to determine the cost to have them replaced and learned it would be around $3,000. I then called Honda for assistance and was informed they would not offer any. I was ultimately forced to purchase and replace the units myself. I have never experienced this in my life and after owning 20+ cars believe this should have been a recall paid for by Honda.Read more

Brakes grab hard at 4 MPH. I've had to software updates from a Ford dealer. It helps for about 100 miles then comes back. Initially, the software was put in because the brakes were grabbing dangerously at a fast speed and I would often hear a loud bang. Purchased Dec 4, 2019; followed maintenance requirements through BO Beukcman Quality Ford. Oil changes made IAW Ford guidelines every 5000 miles. Oil change was made Nov 23, 2023 at 49,504 miles. Just before next oil change noticed engine knocking on acceleration/deceleration with intermittent check engine light on. Oil changed at 54,226 miles (Aug 22, 2024). Condition mentioned to dealer. De
... aler advised engine was consuming oil. There was no visible sign of leaks. Fix -- install new dip stick, reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Rationale: Ford TSB 19-2365 Dec 5, 2019 quoted as follows: oil consumption "may be due to high intake manifold vacuum during some deceleration fuel shut off (DFSO) events resulting in oil being pulled into the combustion chamber from the crankcase, valve guides and positive crankcase ventilation (PCV)". Supposedly reprogramming would reduce engine vacuum during DFSO events (note: I noticed knocking on acceleration). At the dealership inquired why Ford did not advise customers of condition. They could not answer my question. My F-150 is a 5.0L V8 and was described by dealer as a Coyote engine. I asked if they had similar maintenance events like mine; answer - yes. I was disappointed; have owned previous F-150s and none "consumed" oil like this -- my previous truck had 150,000+ miles -- no oil burning. The dealer instructed me to bring the vehicle back every 1000 miles to check dipstick for consumption. Returned vehicle to dealer at 55,626 and 56,700 miles. On returns, consumption was noted; they topped off my oil with instruction to return again at 57,626 (current mileage 57,435 miles) This is inconvenient and poses a safety risk to me and perhaps others through engine degradation/failure especially while driving. Believe Ford owes the cunsumer a permanent engine fix. Vehicle is available for inspection NHTSA.Read more

Vehicle Information: • Make: Tesla • Model: Model Y • Year: 2025 Description of the Problem: After a software update pushed by Tesla, the AP4 computer in my 2024 Tesla Model Y shorted out, causing a complete failure of all systems controlled by this computer. The following safety-critical and driver-assist features have become non-functional: Cruise Control (adaptive or otherwise)
... Forward Collision Warning Lane Departure Warning Lane Keeping Assistance Blind Spot Warning Parking Collision Warning Full Self-Driving and Auto Park features Cameras required for Autopilot functionality Additionally, because the GPS system has failed, the vehicle’s Navigation system is inoperable. This impacts Tesla’s unique route planning feature that sets up Supercharger stops during long journeys. Without a functioning navigation system, I cannot properly plan my travel or locate charging stations, which severely affects the usability of the vehicle. Safety Concerns: The failure of these systems, especially safety features like forward collision warning, lane keeping assistance, and blind spot monitoring, puts both the driver and others on the road at risk. Losing access to safety-critical functions after an update is unacceptable and poses a serious danger to vehicle occupants and surrounding traffic. Incident Details: • The issue occurred immediately following a software update. • Tesla pushed the update remotely without providing any warning or indication of potential risks. • The failure appears to be related to a hardware short in the AP4 computer, directly caused or exacerbated by the update. Desired Outcome: • A thorough investigation into Tesla’s software update process and its effect on vehicle hardware and safety systems. • A resolution that prevents similar failures in other vehicles and ensures system updates do not compromise vehicle safety or critical functionality.Read more

On Thursday last week, I went out to my car that I have parked in the garage the day before I had no issues with the vehicle drove it all day, but on Thursday, I left home to go out to make some errands hopped in my car and I tried to start it. First car wouldn’t turn on, so I thought maybe I should turn off headlights and interior lights. Then I waited a few minutes and thought maybe the cold t
... emperatures was messing with the car. So I just walked away from the car and I got a battery slow drip thinking that the battery might be dead but battery said it had a full charge at 100% charge. So I tried my battery tester battery said battery was about 100% fully charged. So I waited until my friends got home so they could witness that I wasn’t crazy. The only thing the car did after trying to start again was make a clicking sound for about three minutes then the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Every light came on every hazard that was built into the car was on saying that it needs a dealer to be checked or fixed so I called my local Honda dealership and they said that I should call roadside assistance because the car wouldn’t start. So before I could call roadside, I tried to jumpstart the car and nothing happened. So I went back in the house and about a two minutes later, the car crank and started itself, and it stayed on, but when I tried to turn it off, it told me that it could not be turned off due to some reason, I can’t remember from what it said on Thursday. So Thursday afternoon, I drove it up to our local Honda dealership and on the way up there the car shut off twice on the highway in motion which scared the mess out of me because I thought I was going to have an accident then about a mile from the dealership, the dashboard went black and so did the touchscreen, but then it came back on. But long story short local dealership said there’s nothing they can do to duplicate the issue in the car would not be fixed so I’m concerned that something else might happenRead more
