Total circus I’m dealing with over this Recall 23V-707 nightmare. The timeline is wild. Buckle up: Here is how the madness has gone down: On XXX I drop the car off at [XXX] under its own power under RO #XXX. On XXX I pick it up, drive 46 miles, and it instantly turns into a blender full of marbles, backfiring and throwing a check engine light. On XXX it gets towed to [XXX] under RO #436050, and
... I immediately ask for DME logs and get ghosted. On XXX [XXX] claims the recall is totally done, swearing three VANOS bolts snapped and the timing was somehow fine. The second he said it was fine, I immediately asked for the logs. Cue total silence. On XXX at 12:36 PM [XXX] from BMW North America in [XXX] calls me for a 40-minute chat and drops the bombshell: he spoke with the regional manager, who flat-out stated the car didn't even get the recall over a vacuum hose. That Annapolis has never worked on it, so I forward the images that Annapolis had on Xtime. Shortly, not even two hours later, Store Manager [XXX] completely contradicts corporate and emailing me to say, the recall was done. To prove it, he sends a picture of a compression gauge laying in a case reading a sci-fi 220 PSI claiming that one cylinder information as proof my engine is sound. on my 161k-mile N51 engine mind you. Oh, and somewhere during an engine recall, they magically managed to poke around inside of my fuel tank without permission and decided I need a new one. Three bolts came out the engine and the tank fell apart in sync…. Convenient, right? When I asked for actual proof like live DME data, customer-facing compression ISTA logs, and a clean, compliant breakdown invoice, they refused. Insane right? And get this, 95$ a day storage have been threatened on me. I said, I can’t tank the liability of taking that vehicle off of their lot “Silence” UNKNOWN Look at that brand new hose they found It’s been plenty of time for them the report it “done” INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

I am reporting a potential safety issue involving my **2026 BMW X3 30 xDrive**. I was parked on the right side of a parking lot. I moved the vehicle partially out of the parking space and slightly to the left to allow someone to enter the vehicle. I came to a stop and removed my foot from the brake while the vehicle was being held. I then turned toward the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle sudden
... ly accelerated/moved forward across the parking aisle and struck two vehicles. The incident happened extremely quickly. I cannot state with certainty whether my foot inadvertently contacted the accelerator, and I do not want to speculate. I believe I attempted to brake. Of particular concern, I experienced **no apparent automatic collision-avoidance/emergency braking intervention before striking the vehicles**. Prior to this accident, I had expressed concern to a BMW advisor about the speed and acceleration of this vehicle while using its automated parking system. While the advisor was demonstrating the automated parking feature, I specifically commented that the vehicle was moving unusually fast and that I was uncomfortable with the amount of acceleration. I was told that this behavior was normal. On another occasion while using the automated parking/reverse function, I became sufficiently concerned about the vehicle's speed and acceleration that I applied the brake myself because I was afraid the vehicle could cause a collision. I had also previously raised concerns regarding inconsistent operation of the vehicle's Lane Departure Warning/assistance system. I have contacted BMW of North America and requested that BMW preserve and examine the vehicle's electronic and diagnostic data, including accelerator and brake inputs, Auto Hold status, automated parking system activity, Forward Collision Mitigation/Automatic Emergency Braking activity, sensor information, diagnostic/event logs and available crash/event data. I have specifically asked BMW to determine whether accRead more

Description of the Complaint: I own a 2022 BMW X5 (VIN: [XXX], current mileage: approximately 39,500 miles as of 08/24/2026) equipped with the B58TU engine, which uses a plastic oil pump (part number 11418646454) rather than a metal one. I have not yet experienced an actual failure, but I am reporting this as a precautionary safety concern based on the following: 1. On BMW's official parts refer
... ence site (RealOEM.com), the oil pump for my specific vehicle is flagged with an "Attention! Observe PuMA measure 65494813" notice, indicating BMW's own internal system has identified a known issue requiring special observation for this part. 2. I have learned that BMW Korea has acknowledged this plastic oil pump issue following a government investigation, and has committed to a full free repair program for affected vehicles in Korea. 3. I am aware of multiple reports and complaints from other B58TU engine owners in the United States regarding this same plastic oil pump issue. 4. Given that the oil pump is a critical component for engine lubrication, a failure of this part while driving — particularly during highway or long-distance travel — could pose a serious safety risk, including sudden loss of engine oil pressure and potential engine seizure at speed. I am filing this report to bring this issue to NHTSA's attention before an actual failure occurs, and to request that this be considered as part of any pattern analysis regarding B58TU engine oil pump defects in the United States. - **Year:** 2022 - **Make:** BMW - **Model:** X5 - **VIN:** [XXX] - **Mileage:** 39,500 - **Component:** Engine and Engine Cooling (or "Engine Oil System" if listed separately) - **Attachments:** RealOEM.com INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

Subject: Safety Complaint – 2025 BMW X7 LED Headlights Provide Insufficient Road Illumination Vehicle: 2025 BMW X7 Category: Exterior Lighting – Headlights Issue: Severely inadequate nighttime visibility Complaint: I am reporting a serious safety concern with the LED headlights on the 2025 BMW X7. The headlights provide poor road illumination, especially at night and on unlit roads. The be
... am pattern is too low, too narrow, and fails to illuminate critical portions of the roadway. This creates dangerous dark zones directly ahead of the vehicle and significantly reduces reaction time. Compared to prior BMW lighting systems (including BMW’s laser lights and earlier LED projectors), the 2025 X7 headlights perform noticeably worse. The current design does not provide adequate visibility for safe nighttime driving and feels below the standard expected for a modern vehicle in this class. This is not a matter of preference — it is a functional visibility problem that affects safe operation of the vehicle. Multiple owners have reported similar issues, indicating a potential design defect or calibration problem with the headlight system. I request that NHTSA investigate the 2025 BMW X7 exterior lighting performance to determine whether the headlights meet federal safety standards for roadway illumination and whether a recall or corrective action is warranted.Read more

On June 8, 2026, I parked my 2023 BMW XM on my residential driveway, exited the vehicle, and walked toward my residence. My Ring security camera captured the incident. Approximately three seconds later—roughly 15 seconds after I exited—the BMW began rolling. The headlights illuminate
... d as the vehicle began moving. I was already inside my residence and had no physical contact with the vehicle when it began moving. The vehicle subsequently crossed the street, traveled through a bush, and sustained damage. I opened a case with BMW of North America following the incident. BMW conducted an extended investigation that included dealership inspections and review by BMW's National Engineering Group. BMW requested an additional inspection approximately two weeks before providing its determination. After 10 weeks, BMW ultimately advised that it could not identify a vehicle defect or malfunction responsible for the rollaway. BMW identified transmission-related fault codes during its investigation but advised that those codes were not related to or responsible for the rollaway. Following the incident, I attempted to understand how a vehicle would behave at the same location if it had actually been left in Neutral. I separately positioned a BMW X7 and BMW X3 in the same area of the driveway and intentionally placed each vehicle in Neutral. When I released the brake, each vehicle immediately began rolling. This was not a scientific or engineering test, and I am not presenting it as proof of a defect. I conducted the comparison because the XM remained stationary for approximately 15 seconds after I exited before it began moving. The rollaway resulted in substantial damage to the vehicle. Subsequent inspection identified damage including the wheels/tires, rear driver's-side control arm, sensor components, and steering rack. It could have cause physical harm to others.Read more

I am requesting NHTSA assistance regarding a serious and recurring braking safety concern involving our BMW X5. We initially reported braking problems to BMW and brought the vehicle to the dealership for evaluation. We were advised that the vehicle was operating normally. Subsequently, a brake related recall was issued, and the vehicle underwent recall related service. Despite this, braking concer
... ns continued. We again reported the problem and were advised after evaluation that the vehicle was operating properly. There were subsequent incidents involving abnormal braking behavior. During 1 incident, my wife was slowly parking the vehicle when it did not stop as expected despite repeatedly applying the brake pedal. The vehicle continued moving and collided with a wall before eventually stopping. We have also experienced abnormal brake vibration and other concerning braking behavior. Because of these repeated safety concerns, the vehicle is currently the subject of pending lemon law litigation involving BMW North America. Most recently, we returned the vehicle to the BMW dealership because of the braking and safety concerns. The vehicle remained there for approximately 4 months. We have not received a clear explanation of what diagnostic testing, inspection, repair, or corrective work was performed during this extended period. We were then informed that the vehicle was ready for pickup. When we went to retrieve it, it was covered with substantial dust and had very low tire pressure. We were unable to take it home. Our primary concern is safety. We do not know whether the reported braking malfunction was identified or corrected, what was done during approximately 4 months at the dealership, or the technical basis for releasing the vehicle for operation. We regularly transport our young children in this vehicle and are extremely concerned about driving it without knowing whether the braking problem has been properly identified and addressed. I had to switch ignition off and on (it then said “transmission not in park”) when it was in park. Finally started back after having to shut ignition off and on twice. My 2023 BMW 740i has experienced the same serious failure twice at approximately 21,000 miles. The exact component causing the failure is currently UNKNOWN. The vehicle is available for inspection and is currently being returned to an authorized BMW dealer for diagnosis. During the first incident, while driving, multiple warnings suddenly appeared involving chassis stabilization, regenerative bra
... king, the parking brake/roll-away system and drivetrain. The warnings escalated to “Stop. Apply parking brake” and “Drivetrain malfunction. You cannot continue driving.” Shortly afterward, the vehicle became completely immobilized and could not be shifted into Drive, Reverse or Neutral. It had to be towed to an authorized BMW dealer. BMW diagnosed the first incident as a failed 12V battery and replaced the battery under warranty. Only days after receiving the vehicle back with the new battery, the SAME failure occurred again while I was driving. Warning messages appeared stating “Drive carefully. Chassis stabilization,” “Regenerative braking,” and “Vehicle may roll. Brake manually.” The vehicle then displayed “Stop. Apply parking brake. Drivetrain malfunction. You cannot continue driving.” Once the final warning appeared, I had approximately 30 seconds to get out of active traffic before the vehicle became completely immobilized. I was fortunate to reach a parking area. Once stopped, the vehicle again could not be shifted into Drive, Reverse or Neutral and required another tow. My primary safety concern is the extremely short amount of time between the warning to stop driving and complete immobilization. If this occurred on an interstate, railroad crossing, busy intersection or another location without an immediate safe place to stop, the vehicle could become disabled in active traffic. The first BMW repair did not correct the condition. The vehicle is now undergoing diagnosis for the second occurrence.Read more

2022 BMW X3 M40i. The Driver Assistance system appears to activate normally after startup with no warning or indication that a fault is present. However, within approximately 3–5 minutes of driving, a Check Control message appears stating “Driver Assistance limited. Camera vision.” The vehicle then identifies affected systems including Pedestrian Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, Side Coll
... ision Warning, Automatic Lane Change, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Steering Assistant. A separate message states that Active Cruise Control is reduced and there may be no brake intervention for stationary vehicles. The safety concern is that the system can appear active and available before the warning appears, even though at least some driver-assistance functions may already not be operating. Before the warning was displayed, I observed that Steering Assistant/lane-keeping did not intervene and I crossed out of my lane without steering correction or a lane-departure warning. There was no prior warning that the camera-based system was malfunctioning. I cannot confirm whether the other affected safety functions were operational during this interval. A BMW dealer inspected the vehicle and physically found the KAFAS camera hood/trim warped from heat. The warped component was removed and shown to me, and the dealer ordered a replacement. BMW has issued SIB 66 13 23 addressing KAFAS camera hood deformation on affected vehicles. Fault memory also contained KAFAS codes 800ABF, 800ABE, and 800AC4 for camera field-of-view disturbance and calibration failure. This creates a potential safety defect because the driver may reasonably believe lane-keeping and other camera-based safety systems are functioning until the vehicle detects the failure several minutes later. The vehicle/component can be made available for inspectionRead more

We live in [XXX]. We own a 2021 BMW X5-45e. It has about 85,000 miles and has always been serviced by the BMW dealer here in [XXX] – Pierce BMW. On the evening of XXX I drove the vehicle home at 6:30PM after a 30 mile drive and parked the car outside in the shade of our house. The temperature at the time was approx. 95 degrees F. At 6:45PM we left the house and drove on the freeway and city str
... eets of [XXX] about 8-10 miles to see a concert in downtown [XXX]. The temperature at that time was about 90-92 F. There was no wind. We then parked outside the venue for about an hour and watched the concert. We came out of the concert at about 8:30 and started the car. I drove about 200 feet to the corner and stepped on the brake. As the car slowly came to a stop the emergency/parking brake suddenly engaged at about 2-3 miles per hour. The car jerked to a very sudden and violent stop. To get the car going, I had to disengage the parking brake which was on with the indicated brake light. The engine was still on and there were no warning lights flashing. I turned the corner and accelerated again to about 15 miles per hour and touched the brakes to bring the car to a stop. The same thing happened. The car jerked to a sudden stop. To get the car going, I had to disengage the parking brake. The engine was still on and there were no warning lights flashing. It also happened a third time. That time, my elderly wife complained of pain in her back. After the third time, I turned the engine off and waited about one minute. I then restarted the car and drove it home with no problems. We have had no further issues, but this is a big concern as we no longer trust the car to perform as expected. This is a very worrisome issue and would like some answers, but apparently none are forthcoming. I took the car to Pierce BMW and they could find no fault code or problem. Our vehicle's check engine light came on, and we took it to the dealership as it is still under factory warranty. The dealership determined upper radiator blind slat was broken and detached due to an impact. I completely disagree as there is no signs of impact, and there are only signs that this is a poorly designed part. About two weeks after this first event, I was looking for a way to fix th
... is myself as the dealership was wanting close to $2,500 for repairs. While inspecting, I noticed that there was another broken one already. These parts are just poorly made and will not withstand the use required under BMW's design. It is a small thin piece of plastic that will wear and break over time. These are supposed to aid in fuel conservation, but it just seems like a poor design to me. When doing a little internet search, it is obvious that others have had the same issue.
