I am reporting a serious safety defect involving the oil pump assembly on my 2019 BMW X5 xDrive40i. While driving at low speed in normal conditions, a sudden dashboard warning appeared stating: “Engine oil pressure too low — stop carefully.” I immediately pulled over and shut off the engine. My vehicle had been serviced by an authorized BMW dealership less than one week earlier, and no faul
... ts or issues were identified. There were no warning signs or symptoms prior to the failure. An independent licensed repair facility inspected the vehicle after the incident and confirmed that the oil pump had failed due to a defective plastic internal component used in the pump’s design. The failed parts are available for inspection upon request. This failure created a significant safety risk, as sudden loss of oil pressure can cause engine seizure, loss of power steering, loss of braking assist, and an inability to safely control the vehicle. Had this occurred at highway speeds, the consequences could have been severe. I have since learned that this exact issue has been reported by other owners of 2019 BMW X5 vehicles and other BMW models using the B58 engine, which were equipped with an oil pump containing plastic internal drive components prone to cracking or separating. BMW appears to have updated the oil pump design to a metal version in 2020 and later models, suggesting the manufacturer was aware of the weakness of the earlier design. The defect was confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle had also been inspected by BMW one week prior during scheduled service, yet no issues were detected. Because this failure presents a clear safety hazard and appears to be related to a widespread design flaw, I respectfully request that NHTSA open an investigation into the oil pump used in 2019 BMW X5 vehicles and consider issuing a safety recall.Read more

I bought this Terrain brand new from Betten Baker Chevrolet in Muskegon Mi in 2019 with 500 miles. That same year we had transmission Slippage causing it to slip out of gear then slam back into gear while driving. I took it to the dealer to have it looked at. They did nothing and informed me it was known by the manufacturer that this was an issue. I then had to bring it back for electrical issues
... as the lights would all start going off in the cab including dome lights and shift buttons. All key fob would not be recognized by the car and would have to be reprogrammed counting 5 times now. Now I am sitting at just oflver 100,000 miles and what I thought was going to be a simple spark plug change gas turned into a complete motor failure. did an oil change and there was no oil in it. The turbo was replaced and now the engine started making a lot of rattling noises and just stopped. the dash says service transmission, ECS, Extremely low battery voltage and has jost die after oil started pouring out the bottom of the car. It is now sitting at the dealership service department where I was told by am employee there that they have been seeing them come in at 150,000 miles for complete rebuilds and mine was early. let me tell you that this car isn't even paid off yet. The vehicle shut off and would not start while at a stop light. It is new: under one year old and still within warranty. The error was a “Restart not possible. Drivetrain fault” as shown in the picture. My safety as well as my passenger’s were put at risk due to being in a congested roadway and unable to move. After attempting to restart the system software, I then observed a “High voltage
... battery” warning. At that point my passenger and I exited the vehicle. As I was on the phone with emergency roadside assistance while out of the vehicle for about 10 minutes, the vehicle was able to start with the warning now displaying “Drivetrain. You can continue driving. Have the problem checked by your local service center.” I hesitantly drove the vehicle home. While parked, I checked about 15 minutes later and the issue resurfaced (as pictured). The problem has not yet been taken to the dealership. It will be tomorrow. The issue has not yet been inspected by any other representatives. There were no warning signs whatsoever before the issue occurred. The vehicle simply shut off, and upon attempting restart the aforementioned errors were observed.Read more

On November 26, 2025, my 2025 BMW XM experienced complete drivetrain failure while my wife and two children were in a Kansas City parking lot. The vehicle displayed "drivetrain malfunction," would not engage any gear, and was completely inoperable. They were stranded in an unsafe area for 40 minutes awaiting a flatbed tow truck—the only option for this 6,100 lb hybrid. At Baron BMW (Invoice #696
... 591), diagnostics found fault codes 032B51, BA092C, BA09B8, BA0A45, BA0023—all related to the Electric Motor Electronics (EME) module. BMW's test plans indicated EME replacement was needed. However, BMW engineering (TSARA Case #4548336) instructed the dealer to simply CLEAR THE CODES and release the vehicle if faults didn't return after two drive cycles. NO PARTS REPLACED. NO SOFTWARE UPDATED. NO ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFIED. BMW erased the diagnostic evidence without fixing anything. Their own system flagged a critical component for replacement, yet the "fix" was deleting the fault codes. SAFETY CONCERNS: 1) Complete propulsion loss strands occupants in dangerous locations 2) 6,100 lb vehicle losing power in traffic creates collision risk 3) Cannot be conventionally towed, limiting recovery options (i.e. parking garages, parallel parked on a hill, etc..) 4) No root cause fix means repeat failures likely This defect poses unreasonable risk. BMW's failure to correct the underlying issue despite flagging a critical component suggests a systemic software problem in the XM hybrid drivetrain. Request NHTSA investigate this defect pattern.Read more

Drove vehicle to work in the morning and had the front and rear defroster on (they turned on automatically due to exterior temperatures when I used autostart on my AcuraLink app). When I got to work, I parked my vehicle and had no issues at that point. But, in the afternoon when I came out to my car the rear window had spontaneously combusted. There were no obvious signs of damage, nothing on the
... ground that would have fallen, and nothing around. When I got home I did some searching and found that Acura is aware of this issue and had issued a TSB to fix the windows, but that they are no longer doing so under warranty. The TSB is related to the window defogger, which can apparently malfunction and overheat, causing thermal contraction/expansion to break the glass. I had glass all over the inside of my car. Imagine if I were driving it and it exploded, it could have harmed me or worse - I could have been so surprised/startled that I swerved and wrecked, possibly harming others as well. This is a disaster. There's no recall on this? There's no requirement to continue to fix a well-known problem spanning several years (2019-2023 I believe)? They are just replacing the window and apparently, some of the windows being used still have the defective defogger. I'm lucky to be alive and typing this.Read more

This suggests further deterioration of the electrical system. The combination of: • an open fire-risk recall with no fix available, • fluid ingress damaging telematics components, • multiple electrical and safety-system failures, and • new warning lights appearing after service makes this vehicle unsafe to operate, especially for long-distance highway travel. I am writing regarding my vehicle, a 2021 Kia Seltos LX - VIN Number [XXX] , which is subject to a recall NHTSA #25V099, Manufacturer Recall Number SC336. I was informed of the recall April 2025 and have since experienced engine stalling while driving on the highway with my young children with me, abnormal engine noise, complete oil loss and eventually complete engine failure. Unfortunately, thi
... s defect caused my vehicle to become unsafe and completely inoperable for the last 8 weeks. Kia said "We have completed the SC336 Piston Oil Ring recall, and your vehicle did pass. This means that the failure of the engine is not covered within the scope of that recall. This vehicle also does not have Kia warranty coverage active now due to age and miles. At this stage, Metro Kia does not have any further recourse for warranty coverage." My kia was stalling on the highway, complete oil loss where it was bone dry which led to engine failure. How did the vehicle "PASS" when EVERYTHING from the description of the recall is EXACTLY what happened to me? This is absolutely wild that Kia is refusing to do anything about this vehicle. It is a 2021, with 65,000 miles on it. The repairs are over 13K and I am being told I would get nothing for the car if I traded it in because it is worth nothing. Because of this situation, I have experienced a complete loss of transportation and have been relying on other methods of transportation and emptying my bank account for numerous towing visits to and from the dealership. Kia has not fixed the recall and instead quoted me over $13,000 to repair the car. I have enclosed copies of relevant documents, including the recall notice, service records, and any related correspondence. We had snow this afternoon and my wife drove the car home from work. We live on a private road and have a steep driveway. I had her park the car in the road while I plowed the driveway. There was only 1-2” of snow on the ground. My wife existed the car. It appeared to be off and in park meaning the engine was not running and the car sat still on a grade. In hindsight, I should have had her
... set the park brake. My wife went down to her house taking her key with her. I was plowing the driveway. The car had been sitting still on the road for at least 15 minutes. When I was plowing, I had the other key in my pocket. When I got next to the car while still operating my plow, I noticed the taillights came on. Next, the car began rolling down the hill on its own. Nobody was in the car. I was chasing the car. I noted the rear tires were rolling. They were not sliding. The car contained to roll forward then veered towards the side of the road that has a steep ditch. The car then slide sideways down the embankment and stopped at the bottom of the hill. Fortunately, the car did not rollover. Had it been dry and now snow, I think it would have rolled over sideways due to the steep pitch but instead it slid in the snow. I think I was lucky and there is no significant damage but I have not fully retrieved the car out of the ditch yet. I suspect the car was in the start stop mode and possibly my wife did not put into park before exiting the car but this could be easily done since it has the push buttons shifter and the engine was off. Not sure if this is what happened, it’s just speculation. This could have been much more serious if this happened with other people or cars around.Read more
