I have contacted NHTSA and BMW several times. I want this in writing in the case myself or my children are injuried when in this vehicle. My bmw x3 is my only form of transportation the engine light is on and it has started to smoke twice when engine is off. I just purchased the car second week of March 2022. It is hard for the car to accelerate and once the car is stopped at light or stop sig

This issue is unsafe and unfair that a customer can not drive their vehicle to work and appointments for my son with autism as well as my other 3 children. X3 started locking up the brakes, it seems that every time you pressed the breaks the calipers will engage and would not release them, making the vehicle completely stop or force you to accelerate to move the vehicle forward by force and get out of the moving traffic. No error codes came up at all or warning lights on the dashboard. The only way to resolve the issue was to turn the vehicle off
... and start again after a few minutes. The same issue occurs if you use the Auto Hold function, the vehicle will automatically engage the emergency breaks and you lose complete control of the vehicle, until the car is turned off to reset. The calipers were replaced and drained the brake fluids as a measure since no error codes were detected. Problem persisted and it got worse, making it very unsafe to continue to drive the vehicle. Fields BMW in Winter Park Florida, confirmed the problem as the DSC Hydro Unit failure, although no error codes or warnings still and shared that they had several BMW's come in with the same issue and no error codes detected. 4K for the part only and in back order in Germany for 2 months. I contacted BMW Corporate to discuss the problem. It seems BMW Corporate is aware of the issues with the Hydro unit in some models, but not on my model, it seems to me that this is not only a major BMW design failure but a safety problem with the vehicle I believe needs to be addressed by the company.Read more

I have read on the BMW forums that the plastic cams that are attached to the throttle bodies will crack. The bike is a 2008 BMW R1200RT. The throttle bodies for each cylinder has a plastic cam that is the point of attachment for the throttle cable. That plastic cam broke and completely detached from the bike. I was accelerating to merge into traffic on Interstate 64E at Corydon, IN. Once established in the right lane, the bike suddenly lost power and slowed rapidly while I was approached from the rea
... r by a tractor trailer that had to apply brakes and continuously sounded his horn while abruptly maneuvering to the left lane to avoid me while I was attempting to assess what had just happened. This is a critical safety component and its failure has been documented countless number of times on various owner's group forums for this type of bike. One of which is linked here: https://www.bmwsporttouring.com/topic/91897-throttle-body-more-cracked-cable-camspulleys/ Another: https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?76036-Broken-Throttle-Body-Pulleys-2009-R1200RT/page5 It is apparent the plastic that this throttle body cam is made from deteriorates rapidly causing a significant safety risk. There are aftermarket replacements that are made from aluminum, but they are very expensive. I am asking for a safety recall and that BMW be made to replace these parts with a metal or a material that is less prone to failure.Read more

This car has been in the BMW service center for issues relating to the hybrid battery drive system on at least 4 occasions encompassing more than 120 cumulative days over the past 1.6 years that we have owned it. BMW reportedly is now replacing sensors (e.g., throwing parts at the car) in hopes of correcting the fault rather than identifying the source of the fault. I understand from an employee at the BMW service center that he is aware that this dealership has SEVERAL X3 hybrid vehicles with issues identical to our car; and that other dealerships also have hybrid X3 vehicles with faults in the hybrid systems.Read more
