My husband bought a BMW through the military sales program, had it delivered to the United States, and we took it with us to Germany where we currently live. The car is made to U.S. specifications and I had been driving the car weekly in Germany to keep the battery running while he is away on a deployment. On April 11, 2022, as soon as I pressed the ignition button, the dashboard flashed a strang
... e indicator light which I didn't have time to examine because my attention was immediately diverted when a metal bar next to the right rear headrest deployed from inside the seat and punched through the windshield. It sounded like someone threw a brick into the car. The check engine indicator also lit up but deactivated after a few minutes. According to the owner's manual, the metal bar is one of a set of two rollover protection rods which are designed to deploy in the event of a sufficiently serious accident or if the car's longitudinal axis is tilted excessively (i.e. if the car flips over). But there was no accident... All I did was turn the car on. The car remained in park the entire time. We can't find any evidence of this type of misfire occurring with this model car. The car is currently in the shop for repairs after being towed to a local BMW dealership. They investigated the incident, wrote me an email saying they did not notice any technical defects, and refuse to pay for repairs or take responsibility for this incident. Something like this is dangerous and should not happen at all. I think it meets recall criteria, and I definitely think BMW should pay to fix it.Read more

My car was brought in to the BMW dealership for knocking noises, a fire smell, and shaking. I was told my car could not be repaired due to engine failure.l was informed that replacing the engine would cost me more than the vehicle is worth. He recommended l sell it for parts. Currently there are no lights/ indicators present on my dash board indicating that something is even wrong . l did not rec
... eive any warnings before the shaking and /or during the knocking . On the other hand; I have made multiple complaints to my mechanic about smelling fire or burnt rubber for the past six months and he thought it was coming from the radiator and he replaced it.. The smell did not improve .. he was still in the process of guessing what it could be . I guess we know now. The safety of my family has been at risk for months, knowing that burnt rubber smell could have evolved into something major at anytime . My life was in danger when the car began shaking while driving on the highway on my way to work . The car has been parked for a week now due to me not knowing what to do with a dead 10 years young vehicle. I have not called the police and my insurance company states they don’t cover mechanical issues. My car has only been viewed by a dealership and my mechanic shop. To make my situation worse , I am currently working overseas in Germany on orders and l don’t know what to do with this car. I don’t live a lifestyle where I can afford to purchase a vehicle with the intentions of it lasting 10 years or less . My car is definitely available for inspection upon request.. if someone could advise me on whom to contact , that would be great . The set back this has caused me is unrealistic. If there is anything I can do as a costumer please let me know .l am a healthcare worker .l am very reliant upon my vehicle . I need my car.Read more

In early August 2021, the fuel pump on our BMW X3 failed in the middle of an intersection and the car stopped completely. No way to move to one side until a flatbed wrecker came. Fuel pumps will fail after 100,000 miles and we above that figure, Which is why it was surprising then to have the same problem four months later when we had multiple error codes come up on the same car. At least this ti
... me I could pull over to the side off the road. The problem was a failing fuel pump. When a pump fails the car stops. If we had been on a highway we would have been rear ended and potentially killed. I shared my concern with a contact at BMW Corporate who only noted that the repair was under extended warranty. One BMW service rep I spoke to said that fuel pump failures are a known issue and yet in my experience there still seems to be a major problem with the part.Read more

I was rear-ended during a traffic slowdown in freeway, while driving my 2014 BMW 328i sedan. Due to the collision, my vehicle’s safety system got invoked, which made the gear automatically go into neutral and the flashers turned on. However, my seatbelt (driver, left-front seat) unbuckled automatically. This caused me to hit the steering wheel during the accident. I didn’t suffer major injury
... as I had slowed down to less than 20 mph, while the vehicle hit me in the rear (which had also slowed, though didn’t stop on time/didn’t have the distance, and hence the collision). After the collision, when I checked, the socket from which the seatbelt is pulled had got loose, and the belt had a double fold in the buckle, and so it got stuck. It didn’t rollback to its place.Read more

I like to report the incident with the sudden collapsing of the ECU car electronic on 01/23/2022 during night, which had raised my serious concerns regarding the car safety in general. During driving the car in the nighttime of Sunday 01/23/2022, my wife was on her way to return from Pompano, FL to her home in Plantation, FL, using the Turnpike, she experienced that ECU engine speed control had re
... peatedly sudden changes in engine revolutions, all indication lights at the dashboard went on and then all went off. At this moment of time, it was impossible for her, to control car speed via the accelerator pedal, since the engine speed suddenly changes from low idle to high idle, the operation of power steering and car brake system were affected as well. This unsafe situation of the car control functionality caused an unsafe situation for driving and having control over the car. It wasn’t possible for her to control engine/car speed, either the affected power steering hydraulic system and car brake system doesn’t supply the sufficient pressure to their system. In this particular moment the car was undrivable and uncontrolled, which were leading to a very dangerous situation for the driver, and it could end up in a live threating situation and accident for the driver. The service technician of BMW Holman Auto in Fort Lauderdale traced back the reason, that the ECU lost the throttle signal, due to a failure of the car battery. These is raising another question, why it doesn’t happen when starting the car, this is the moment when the highest current get drawn out from the battery, another question is, why these never happened before, when the car battery lost its capacity, because I’d to change the battery already twice since I’ve this car. Another question is regarding the ECU control logic functionality and their set up, why the engine speed needs to be accelerated, why the ECU can’t use the last actual throttle set point.Read more
