NHTSA COMPLAINT - 2026 BMW X3 WINDSHIELD DEFECT Our brand new 2026 BMW X3 has experienced two complete windshield failures within six weeks of purchase. Both windshields spontaneously cracked from the perimeter bonding edge with NO rock strikes or impacts: ∙First failure (Week 3): Crack from driver-side A-pillar edge ∙Second failure (Week 6): Crack from top horizontal edge near rearview mirror
... Critical Pattern: Both cracks originated from different points along the windshield-to-body bonding periphery, indicating a systemic defect in the entire bonding system, not isolated damage. Safety Risk: This violates FMVSS 212 windshield retention requirements. Risks include: windshield detachment during crashes, airbag deployment failure, sudden visibility loss while driving, and water intrusion causing electrical fires. Key Evidence: BMW has already recalled FOUR related 2026 models for identical windshield seal defects: ∙Campaign 25V556: X5/X7 (1,406 vehicles) - improperly sealed windshields ∙Campaign 25V671: X4/X6 - same defect The X3 shares the same platform, manufacturing facility, and production timeframe but was excluded from recalls. Statistical Impossibility: Two spontaneous windshield failures in six weeks with zero impacts on a new vehicle cannot be coincidence. Normal defect rates are <0.1% annually. Dealer Confirmation: BMW dealer confirmed and replaced first windshield. Second failure proves systematic defect. Request: Investigate whether 2026 X3 has the same defect as recalled X4/X5/X6/X7 models and expand recalls accordingly. I brought my 325ci into BMW Buena Park to have an airbag recall completed. There were no issues prior to dropping the car off at dealership but when the car was returned the airbag system light was on and was filled with error codes. I own a 2020 GMC Terrain with approximately 110,000 miles. While driving in winter, the vehicle suddenly lost cabin heat and defrosting capability. The temperature gauge began fluctuating and the cooling fans continued running after the vehicle was shut off. The piston ring function has deteriorated causing ring low wear toughness such to the point that sludge has been created fowling the spark plug. If we had know about the warrantee extension prior we would have brought it to Honda. Honda told us that unless the lights are on we won't fix it. So they said we needed to wait to it breaks down somewhere and then have it towed to the nearest Honda by Jan. 31st, 2026 and they will fix it. After that tough luck. We are looking for an exception to this rule and I have sent in the necessary information proving that the problem exists as evidenced by two licensed mechanics. If and exception is not granted I will have no other choice but to bring it to the better business bureau and 7 on your side a local consumer advocate from KGO TV and get them to come after you to make this right. We have been a loyal advocate for Honda for over 12 years and just want this to be made right. Please don't make us have to expose this miscarriage of good faith. Please respond to this quickly as there are only two days left in the extended warrantee. I talked to a case worker today and they told me I was out of luck. While driving under normal conditions, the Lane Keep Assist system on my 2025 BMW Alpina XB7 unexpectedly and violently jerked the steering wheel without driver input. The sudden steering intervention caused the vehicle to abruptly change direction and strike a curb, resulting in a loss-of-control event. This occurred without warning and could have resulted in a serious crash involving other vehic

These abrupt braking events create a significant risk of a rear-end collision, as following vehicles are not anticipating such sudden deceleration. These issues involve advanced driver-assistance safety systems that are intended to enhance control and safety. Instead, they are operating in a manner that overrides driver input and introduces unsafe driving conditions. The servicing dealership acknowledged the issues and advised me not to use the Lane Keep Assist and cruise control features. Being instructed to disable safety systems due to unsafe behavior is unacceptable and does not resolve the underlying defect. Given the loss-of-control incident and the ongoing unpredictable braking behavior, I believe these defects present a serious safety risk to vehicle occupants and the public.Read more

I was driving down the highway going about 60-65mph with cruise control and LKA on. I turned my blinker on to switch lanes, checked my blind spot, and moved over to the left. As I was doing so, a semi switched lanes from the left into the right (my new lane) right in front of me. The truck then slowed down a lot, and usually my Forward Collision Warning would say something if my Adaptive Cruise Co
... ntrol isn’t on (or is and I’m just going too fast to slow down) neither of those things happened. No warning. No automatic brakes. No slowing down. I tried to engage the brakes manually but nothing happened. I slammed into a semi at around 60mph because of 3 different system failures. Not only did I hit the semi at 60~mph, apparently my brakes didn’t work at all and I spun out until I hit the concrete barrier on the highway. If my brakes had engaged automatically, I could have slowed down enough to avoid the collision altogether. And if they had engaged manually I could have at least minimized the damage to my vehicle (and myself) because I wouldn’t have hit the concrete barrier as well.Read more

We purchased the vehicle in 2020 with appx 33,000 miles. In fall 2023- winter 2024 it began having electrical glitches when the weather was cold. The car will start, but will not shift into gear. It throws alarms such as service Parking Brake, Shifter, Engine, Traction Control and that you must put it in Park. Although it obviously is in park or it wouldn't have started. The dealership kept it
... for a month Nov-Dec 2023 and could not get it to recreate the problem, but replaced the battery since it "failed". We went on vacation for Christmas and had issues with it not shifting after it sat all night in the cold. However, the problem is intermittent. But the cold seems to be the consistent factor. Once the weather warms up, it does fine. Although 1 time in sumer 2024 with very high temps 100+ it threw the same alarms and would not shift into gear upon starting the car. We continued to have issues in Fall 2024/Winter 2025. It did great throughout spring and summer, began issues again in Fall 2025 into this Winter 2026. It has left us stranded, unable to get the car to shift sometimes for 10-15 minutes while we "warm up the car" but sometimes it takes 30-60 minutes. We've began putting a space heater nearby it for a couple of hours each morning before we need to drive it, but that doesn't always work either. While extremely frustrating, it hasn't been considered dangerous until a week ago. We came out of church and it was chilly, so I expected it would not shift into gear. It surprised me when it started AND shifted. However, as soon as I got on the main road up to 40mph, the engine completely lost power and threw all the same alarms. The stretch of county road had no shoulders and deep ditches, so barely made it coasting to a neighborhood to pull over. Searching on the Internet, we narrowed it down to the CAN BUS star connector, replaced it, and it drove better than ever! Until it was cold that night! Likely needs soldered, can't reach it behind glovebox.Read more

BMW replaced the programing/encoding control units software that was original to the vehicle. They indicated that this would improve overall function of the vehicle. The cost of this replacement was $371. This sounds like a design flaw. I own a 2021 Silverado 1500 6.2 v8. Since October of 2025 this truck has been in and out of the dealership. First engine (Oct. 24, 2025) issue as my teen driver was on the expressway and luckily was able to get off and get safely to an unknown persons driveway. Then the motor seized and died as we tried to drive it home. A friend was able to tow it to our driveway and GM sent a tow truck to pick i
... t up and haul to the dealership. The truck was in the dealership for 2 weeks prior to the first engine failure and "EVERYTHING WAS FINE". Nov 26, 2025 new engine comes in. December 12th SECOND motor was put in and FAILED as cylinder 7 had no compression. Dec 31, 2025 picked up my truck with the THIRD motor. Jan 14, 2026 took the truck back AGAIN for engine ticking, noise, loss of propulsion/speed, running sluggish. Dealer kept it until Jan 21, 2026. Dealer said they drove it and the noise is normal injector noise. They did nothing other than drive it. They will not investigate any further as it wasn't pulling codes or warning lights. It is still not running right and I'm waiting for it to have a major failure. It is not safe to drive. The first motor did not show any warnings either. GM really needs to get this figured out soon. No vehicle with 52,000 miles should have 3 motors put in it. This is not quality work and concerns for safety are real.Read more

My 2018 BMW M6 which cost me almost $90,000 suddenly lost its suspension balance and height. Driving got bouncy, axles lost balance, driving turned hazardous. It was diagnosed that , The Virtual Dynamics Management module was fried and defected. The replacement cost $2,571.40 which Irvine California BMW made the recommended repair. After revisiting and researching the root cause, speaking with
... BMW certified master technicians, with 50+ years of working on MBW cars said, they never seen this defect nor this module failed before. They shared that this looks like a design flaw, with no recall and no history. I sent a certified letter dated Dec. 22, 2025 to BMW North America CEO Sebastian Mackensen and BMW Global CEO Oliver Zipse. Unfortunately, both did not read the letter. I was told they are too busy with other things, which is appalling. The letter was passed to their customer relations. They shared with me and confirmed that although this defect is rare, they will not reimburse me the cost of the repair since my car is out of warranty. I am aware that the car is out of warranty however they should stand and held accountable to the quality of the module since there are certified technicians shared with me that could have been a design flaw. This is not a wear and tear tear. Even BMW Service acknowledged that fact, especially with the vehicle that has been driven 34,000 miles. I believe this is a Safety issue. Suspension drops, uneven load shifts, and potential next corner could roll. Again, BMW admits it’s rare—meaning they know it happens—yet they won’t cover it. That’s not quality commitment. Based on what they constantly advertise. That’s policy over people.Read more

At approximately 20,000 miles, the vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer due to abnormal noises from the front suspension when turning the steering wheel. The dealer confirmed abnormal noise from the front struts when the wheels were turned while the vehicle was on a lift and diagnosed premature front strut failure. The affected components are available for inspection upon request. Repair
... was quoted but not performed. This condition involves a safety-critical suspension component and may affect vehicle handling, stability, and braking performance, particularly during turning or emergency maneuvers. This issue follows a prior safety-related brake failure at approximately 17,000 miles. At that time, a brake system warning light illuminated, and the condition was confirmed and repaired by the dealer. Both incidents involve safety-critical systems occurring at unusually low mileage. No warning lights or messages were observed prior to the suspension issue. The vehicle has not been involved in a collision and has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives.Read more

While driving, the electronic parking brake (EPB) system malfunctioned. The vehicle was stopped in DRIVE with Auto Hold active. When the driver door was opened briefly, the vehicle attempted to transition from Auto Hold to applying the electronic parking brake as a safety function. At that moment, the EPB malfunction warning appeared and the parking brake system faulted. There were no prior mecha
... nical brake issues (no dragging brakes, no unusual noises, no brake wear symptoms). The issue appears to be an electronic/control-related failure of the EPB actuator/control unit rather than typical brake wear. A repair facility retrieved multiple diagnostic fault codes related to the electronic parking brake actuator/control unit and recommended replacement of the EPB actuator assembly followed by initialization/calibration and clearing of faults. This creates a potential safety risk because the electronic parking brake may apply unexpectedly or may not apply/release as intended during safety logic events (such as opening the driver door while stopped), potentially immobilizing the vehicle or creating a hazard in traffic or parking situations.Read more

The vehicle has been seen by Tesla and I have been told that the warranty has expired and the computer must be replaced at my cost. This is a serious safety issue as without a functional computer, features such as software updates, navigation, bilnd spot monitoring, lane keeping, cruise control, all cameras (rear, side, front), autopilot, autobraking etc. are nonfunctional.Read more
