The sunroof of my 2014 BMW 328i sedan exploded while driving on a highway at 75mph. The explosion sounded like a gunshot or a truck tire exploding. Thankfully I kept control of the car and the pull shield was closed preventing a majority of the glass from raining down on me and my passenger. We did pull over to the side of the highway were a witness described the glass as exploding up and slidin

Next, we proceeded to a safe location off the freeway and found the sunroof glass to have a hole in the center. The remaining glass was protruding upwards in a convex shape. To note, I did not have cars in front me during the explosion so no direct impact from a rock or other debris. My dealership has the car for inspection and repair. A claim with my insurance has been submitted. My car had a comprehensive service in May of 2022.Read more

While driving my car at about 30 miles per hour the engine suddenly seized up. There was no warning at all. I had it towed to the dealer, Baron BMW in Merriam Kansas. After evaluating the car they determined the engine failed and it was an issue of lack of oil. I had taken the car to this dealer prior to buying the car to make sure there were no problems. After their inspection I went ahead and b
... ought the car. It had 40,528 miles. I had taken it to the same dealer for service for 3 years prior to the engine failure When the engine failed the mileage was 95,444. I talked with the dealer and let them know that I felt BMW should pay for replacement of the engine. They refused to do this so I was stuck with having to pay for another engine. After researching this issue I found out that there numerous issues with the engine and that several people had had the same problem. BMW was aware of this issue and chose not to do a recall as they should have . Instead the went ahead and made the decision to not do the recall and deal with the engine failures when the engines failed . This would be less expensive to do rather than do the recall which they should have done. So what they did was to sell the 528i model and let people drive the cars , knowing that a certain number of cars engines would fail. Since your organization is concerned about safety issues ,shouldn't you have taken some action once you became aware of the engine failure issue I would hope you could consider some kind of fine or whatever against BMW for putting a car out on the road knowing a certain number of engines would fail while people were driving . They were more concerned with profits rather than the safety of the public that would be driving their cars. While you are at it it would be good if you could fine BMW and have them reimburse the owners of these cars in which the engines failed! Thank you for your time and consideration. Incident date: Jun 2, 2022
When slowing the vehicle, at about 4-5 mph, the car seems to engage the auto-start system and force the car to lurch forward (adding power to the wheels) potentially causing an accident by forcing the car forward when the driver is attempting to slow the vehicle. This only happens 15% of the time (estimated). I have taken it back to two different BMW dealerships a total of four times, having the
... vehicle off the road for over 5 weeks. I have notified BMW North America, as well. They all say the vehicle is operating as intended. I feel that the car adding power to the wheels when a driver is intending to stop the vehicle is incredibly dangerous and will, at some point cause an accident or hit a pedestrian.Read more

I have a 2013 BMW X3 i28 4-cylinder turbo with 70 383 miles. I have maintained it regularly through my BMW service center here in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. I was away and had my car since I brought it north on the auto train to save wear and tear and mileage. Unfortunately, on July 14th, I was headed from Buffalo, NY, to Rhode Island on the NYS thruway when my engine died on me; thank god I could get it
... to a shoulder, or I would have been dead, seeing there were a few semis behind me. I called a tow truck a nightmare since tow companies have a monopoly on towing off state thruways. It was towed to Towne BMW in Williamsville, NY, They did a diagnostic, and it was only the battery, so they said. So I went and returned my rental car and paid my bill, the time was now 6:00 pm, and I was good to go, so they said I didn't even make it across the street, and the engine did the same thing. This time they tell me my engine has seized up, and oh well, too bad, not their problem. They never gave me a diagnosis of what was completed on both days, and they continued to make a new narrative on the issue. In both instances, a light that said turn the engine off appeared after the engine shut down. I have contacted BMW North America, but they haven't done anything. Best, PHRead more

I brought my 2015 BMW 328i to a local BMW dealership service center to inspect why my check engine light turned on. As part of their multi-point inspection, the service technician found an unrelated problem with the rear left tail light. ... lti-Point Inspection Items requiring immediate attention Additional Service Repair Critical Cause UPON FURTHER INSPECTION OF VEHICLE, FOUND LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHT CONNECTOR MELTED CAUSING TURN SIGNAL MALFUNCTION. RECOMMEND REPLACING LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHT CARRIER , PINS , CONNECTOR Upon further investigation, I found dozens of online posts from BMW 3 series owners with the exact same issue. As noted by a reply from a BMW master certified technician, this is a known issue and a defect/flaw in the design where the ground wire in the taillight is undersized, thus resulting in overload and subsequent melting of the connector. Post after post on multiple sites contain BMW owners stating the exact same issue and cause regarding the brown/ground wire leading to an electrical short. An electrical short causing a connector to actually melt seems like a safety issue. This can lead to a fire. I find this disturbing, especially with a toddler that is strapped into a car seat in the back. This is a known issue with the design that impacts the safety of the vehicle and should be a recall.Read more
