Recently noticed sharp downshifting of auto transmission. Usually going up or down grade when I take foot off accelerator. Last week someone behind me needed to brake hard and change lanes in an emergency manner. The transmission change it hard and drops two or three gears. Very scary.

The vehicle has service driver assistance system warning. The seat vibration is not working and I believe there are issues with the sensor and or harness. I am writing to formally express my concern regarding serious and repeated safety-related failures with my 2022 BMW X5 xDrive45e, VIN [XXX] . I purchased this vehicle in 2022 through a custom build, at a purchase price exceeding $80,000, with the expectation of reliability, safety, and premium quality consistent with the BMW brand. In October 2025, while my wife was driving with my son in the ve
... hicle, the hybrid component safety box failed without warning, causing the vehicle to stall on the roadway. This created a dangerous situation for my family. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, repaired, and returned to me on November 4, 2025. Unfortunately, on February 3, 2026, a second serious incident occurred. After my wife picked up my son from school, the vehicle began jerking violently while driving, and a strong sulphur-like odor entered the cabin. Fearing for their safety, she immediately stopped driving. The vehicle was again towed to BMW of Jackson. I was informed today by the service advisor that the failure is due to another hybrid-related component, specifically the EME Hybrid Inverter, and that BMW North America is declining to cover this repair under warranty. These repeated hybrid system failures are deeply concerning, particularly given that both incidents involved my wife and children and posed clear safety risks. As a result, both of my children are now fearful of riding in the vehicle, and this situation has caused significant emotional distress to my family. Given the nature of these failures, the vehicle’s purchase price, and BMW’s emphasis on safety and engineering excellence, I find it unacceptable that a critical hybrid component failure would not be covered under warranty—especially following a prior hybrid system failure less than four months earlier. I am requesting that BMW North America review this matter promptly and provide a reasonable resolution, including warranty coverage for the EME Hybrid Inverter repair. I bought this car and started to have issues after a couple weeks. Because it is a hybrid model, it works perfectly fine when the car is running on the battery. Immediately the engine began to work, I get hesitation and the car drives rough. I took it to the first dealership that said there was water in the engine but they were proved wrong because what they show as water was apparently fuel that
... did not burn the right way in the cylinder. The dealership came with another excuse that the filter had traces of water which makes them to believe something was wrong. I took the car to another bmw dealership as I did not trust their diagnosis. The other bmw dealership performed some work on the car but then came to the conclusion that their hands were tied because of what the previous dealership reported to bmw north america. I called bmw north america and they told me to go back to the dealership after I had no success at the dealership. I believe this is a lemon case and also constitute a safety hazard because I nearly had an accident because the car switch from running on battery to combustion and immediately on the highway. The speed slows abruptly and car began to drive rough. I would appreciate any traction this can get from the board to resolve this with the manufacturerRead more

On the morning of January 28, 2026 I arrived to work and came to a complete stop in my works parking garage. I used my key card to raise the gate. Once the gate was fully raised I pressed the accelerator to drive up the ramp. Shortly after accelerating, my engine revved really loud and high rate, then my car automatically increased speed. I immediately pressed the brake pedal but it didn’t stop.
... It continued accelerating at a speed not controlled by me with my brakes not engaging even though I was pressing the brake as hard as could. I estimate I travel about 100’ with no control of the gas or brake. It lasted about 15-20 seconds. If a car were in front of me at that time, I would have crashed into them because I could not stop the car. I immediately called Davis Moore Mazda. I had the vehicle towed there because I didn’t feel safe driving it. Information from my cars computer program was sent to Mazda. Mazda didn’t see any issues and their diagnosis was a foot was likely on the accelerator causing the acceleration. The general manager called me to discuss. He said the only thing that registered was acceleration. I asked does the computer show my attempt to brake (stop) the car. His response was the computer wouldn’t read that because that was a normal driving process that wouldn’t be recorded. I asked why the acceleration would trigger an alert in the computer, since acceleration is also a normal driving process. He then said the computer picked it up because it accelerated quickly. There were no warnings present prior to this issue.Read more

I was parking the car and gently tapped on the accelerator to inch forward. The car accelerated suddenly, crashed into a concrete sign holder, and knocked down a sign, until I was able to stop it using the breaks. This time I was able to stop it before causing any damage. At this point, I KNEW that the first accident was not my error, since it had now happened again, and I was 100% sure that I did nothing wrong. I looked up "unintended acceleration - Tesla" and found examples of the exact same thing happening while parking. I looked for a fix, and it suggested changing the mode of the car to "creep." The failure occurred immediately after a significant temperature stress: taken from a heated garage, driven with no issue for 40 minutes, then parked in 15 degree weather for two hours, then complete failure within moments of starting up after the two hour cold parking block. My reading since the incident reveals that BMW quietly switched a critical drivetrain part from a composite/plastic material to metal in later 2022 production runs, due to temperature tress failures precisely as I experienced. This 'silent fix' suggests a known design defect in early 2022 models that poses a recurring risk of sudden propulsion loss. While driving on a highway, the vehicle intermittently experienced a sudden loss of engine power during acceleration, accompanied by a flashing check engine warning light. The most serious event occurred while merging into traffic, when the vehicle failed to accelerate normally and briefly lost power, creating a risk of being struck by faster-moving vehicles. After pulling over and restarting the
... vehicle, normal acceleration temporarily returned, but the problem has recurred multiple times. The malfunction appears to be related to an engine misfire or powertrain fault because the check engine light flashes during the events and an OBD scan has shown misfire-related diagnostic codes (random/multiple misfire and a cylinder-specific misfire). The condition is intermittent and typically occurs after the vehicle has been driven for approximately 10–45 minutes. The vehicle remains available for inspection. The vehicle has been presented to authorized service departments multiple times for diagnosis. The dealerships have reported that they were unable to duplicate the issue during road testing and no lasting repair has been completed. The manufacturer has been contacted and the vehicle has been inspected/diagnosed through authorized service channels, but the underlying cause has not been identified. The failure continues to occur intermittently and is a safety hazard because it affects acceleration in traffic. Incident list 10/25/2025 (~12:25 PM; ~3,108 miles) — While accelerating to merge onto a highway, the vehicle lost power and the check engine light flashed. The driver pulled over, shut the vehicle off, restarted, and the condition temporarily resolved, allowing the trip to continue. 10/27/2025–11/04/2025 — The same loss-of-power/misfire behavior recurred intermittently, typically lasting a few minutes before clearing. 11/05/2025 (~8:01 AM; ~3,641 miles) — The check engine light flashed again and symptoms consistent with misfire/loss of power were present. AutoNation CDJR Spring instructed me to continue driving the vehicle and rely on a mobile phone app to view speed, increasing distraction and crash risk. Stellantis later instructed me to drive the unsafe vehicle to another dealership, showing disregard for my safety. Problem Confirmation: The defect was diagnosed in April 2025 at AutoNation CDJR Spring while the vehicle was under warranty. The dealer confirmed the cluster qualified for warranty replacement but released the vehicle back to me against my wishes due to parts backorder, despite it being unsafe. Stellantis repeatedly refused to assist after I filed complaints. Inspections: In January 2026, after the condition worsened, AutoNation CDJR Spring again refused service. Tomball DCJR inspected the vehicle, confirmed internal cluster failure, test-drove it and observed the display shutting off, then removed and replaced the cluster. I was forced to pay $111.63 for installation despite the repair being warranty-related. Warnings/Symptoms Prior to Failure: The issue began as water-like droplets or spots inside the cluster glass that could not be wiped off, reducing visibility of safety information. The spots increased over time, visual clarity worsened, and the display eventually went completely black while driving. Summary: Jeep/Stellantis and AutoNation CDJR Spring failed to repair a known, worsening safety defect under warranty and instructed me to continue operating an unsafe vehicle.Read more

Now that BMW has acknowledged a fire risk defect and still has no available remedy, I do not feel safe continuing to operate this car. BMW has even advised owners not to park in a garage due to the potential fire hazard. The first recall was issued in 2024 and did not resolve the issue. The subsequent recall in August 2025 still has no fix. This ongoing situation presents a serious safety risk, and it is unacceptable that it remains unresolved.
