I own a 2021 Cadillac Escalade that falls under the manufacturer recall issued by GM/Cadillac for engine problems associated with this specific make, model, and year. I received an official recall notice via both email and U.S. Postal Service, instructing me to take my vehicle to my local dealership to have the recall addressed. I promptly complied and took my vehicle to the dealership. However,
... I was informed by both the dealership and the manufacturer that my VIN number “excludes” my vehicle from the recall, despite it matching the same year, make, and model. Approximately one month later, my engine failed due to the exact same defect that is the subject of the recall. Nevertheless, GM/Cadillac continues to refuse to cover my engine replacement under the recall, solely on the basis that my VIN number is not included in the recall list. As a result, the dealership has ordered an entirely new engine for my vehicle. I am now expected to be without a vehicle for two to three months while waiting for the new engine to arrive and be installed. I believe GM/Cadillac is misrepresenting to consumers which vehicles are covered under the recall to avoid financial responsibility for defective engines. My situation demonstrates that vehicles outside the listed VIN range are experiencing the exact same defect, yet GM/Cadillac is refusing to extend the recall coverage. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate whether GM/Cadillac is improperly limiting recall coverage and failing to include all affected vehicles, leaving consumers with significant expenses and lengthy repair times for a defect the manufacturer already acknowledged. Thank you for your attention to this matter.Read more

I am the original owner of a 2020 Hyundai Kona equipped with the 2.0L Nu MPI engine. This engine has been subject to known manufacturing defects, including excessive oil consumption, timing component wear, and premature failure. Hyundai has acknowledged that my specific engine falls within the range of engines affected by this defect and has confirmed that it is part of a recall/service campaign g
... roup. However, Hyundai is refusing to repair or replace the engine because it passed a vibration test back in 2021. That test was performed over three years ago, and my vehicle is now experiencing major engine problems, including the activation of check engine light with code P0017, which refers to crankshaft-camshaft correlation issues — a known symptom of the engine defect. Hyundai is denying coverage based on a test that is now outdated and irrelevant, despite the fact that the engine is part of the known defect group and is showing signs of failure consistent with hundreds of similar cases. The vehicle is no longer under powertrain warranty, but the root cause of the failure is clearly related to the previously identified defect. Hyundai’s refusal to act puts me, and potentially others, at risk of sudden engine failure due to timing or lubrication problems. This is a potential safety issue if the engine stalls while driving. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate Hyundai’s use of past vibration tests to deny coverage for active and dangerous engine defects. Owners like myself should not be penalized for a test performed years ago when clear evidence of failure now exists.Read more

The uconnect touchscreen had bubbling in upper left corner within the first year of being brand new. ... work, no function in usb ports connected to uconnect system, no audible alerts (or any sounds) from speakers for collision warning or radio etc just ZERO sounds, no back up camera because the screen doesn't work, no uconnectivity from mirror in case of collision. OH AND THE MYSTERIOUS GLOBS OF CLEAR ADHESIVE GLUE DRIPPING BELOW THE SCREEN more specifically dripping below the control knobs that are below the screen right into my center compartment where the USB ports are located! This is a known issue caused by a manufacturing defect with the glue used by Jeep to bond the layers of the screen. it should absolutely be a recall covered by Jeep! My warranty has expired so no luck for me unless uconnect covers it. Fingers. crossed on that. I checked fuses all good, did a soft reset that brought back charging ability in usb ports and the screen turned a dark blue instead of black but wtill no function, and did a hard reset by disconnecting my battery cable for 1/2 hr. Nothing worked. I was told it would cost over $2000 not including labor if the uconnect system needs to be replaced. My jeep only has 12500 miles on it. Its keep in a carport with a cover and very well maintanined. This is absolutley a safety issue! So dissapointed as this will potentially be the 2nd expensive issue with my jeep coming out of the pocket with such low mileage. Dear National Recall Team, I am writing to report a recurring and potentially hazardous issue with my vehicle that has not yet been addressed through a recall. Since July 2024, I have experienced a problem with the steering wheel intermittently getting stuck, accompanied by a rattling noise from the left side of the vehicle. During a routine oil change, I asked the service technician to inspect
... the issue, but I was told everything appeared normal. Despite this, the problem has continued. I followed up with several phone calls but was consistently told that no issues could be found. I brought the vehicle back in again on Friday, where they replaced the brake fluid, yet once again reported no findings. Unfortunately, the steering issue and rattling noise persist, and I am increasingly concerned for my safety while operating the vehicle. When I contacted customer service, I was informed that only vehicles from model years 2022–2024 are currently covered under a recall for steering-related problems. As my vehicle does not fall within that range, I was told I do not qualify for assistance — despite experiencing similar symptoms. I respectfully request that this issue be investigated further, as it appears to pose a serious safety risk. I am happy to provide additional documentation or bring the vehicle in for inspection if needed. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.Read more

Summary of Problem: The infotainment screen on my 2018 Subaru Outback has delaminated and is malfunctioning, causing multiple safety issues. This is a known manufacturer defect previously addressed in a class-action lawsuit (Starlink Infotainment System Litigation, settled 2021). However, my vehicle’s screen failed shortly after the extended warranty expired. Detailed Description of Safety Haza
... rds: The malfunctioning screen creates the following safety risks: 1. Backup Camera Obstruction – The screen dims erratically, sometimes going completely dark, rendering the rearview camera unusable. This poses a serious safety hazard and appears to violate FMVSS 111 requirements for rear visibility systems. 2. Unintended Screen Inputs – The screen exhibits “ghost touches” that result in random phone calls, volume changes, and navigation menu disruptions, all without user input. This creates an unsafe level of driver distraction. 3. Driver Distraction and Interference – The system's erratic behavior pulls my attention away from the road, as I must manage or override its malfunctions, increasing the risk of an accident. Manufacturer Response: I contacted Subaru of America, who acknowledged the issue but only offered to cover half of the $1,200 repair cost. They declined full assistance, citing the expiration of the class-action extended warranty (5 years/100,000 miles), despite this being a latent defect with safety implications. Known Precedent: Many other Outback owners have received full coverage from Subaru for this exact issue, even outside of the warranty, suggesting inconsistent application of goodwill support. This is clearly a systemic defect. Requested Action: I am reporting this because the defect affects safety-critical features. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate whether this issue warrants a broader recall or compliance action. The unpredictable failure of the rearview camera and screen functionality poses a clear risk to driver and public safety.Read more

Component/System Involved: Molded-in-Color (MIC) Hardtop – Composite Roof Panel What happened: The molded-in-color (MIC) hardtop on my 2021 Ford Bronco (2-door) has developed multiple visible stress cracks above the passenger-side window. These are not surface scratches — they are embedded, structural fractures in the composite roof material. The cracks have formed under normal, garage-kept d
... riving conditions at just over 10,400 miles and continue to worsen. Safety risk: I am concerned these cracks pose a potential safety risk, particularly involving water intrusion during rainfall or car washes. The affected area is directly above the front-row passenger seat and adjacent to electrical systems, including interior lighting and airbags. If water penetrates the roof structure, it could lead to mold, short circuits, degraded visibility, or electrical malfunction — especially under motion. Additionally, the structural integrity of the hardtop could be compromised in a rollover scenario. Inspection history: A Ford dealership in Winchester VA acknowledged this is a known issue and stated they had replaced multiple hardtops for the same defect. However, they declined to inspect my vehicle due to the warranty having recently expired. Ford Motor Company also reviewed the issue but denied coverage without inspecting the vehicle. Manufacturer acknowledgment: Ford delayed delivery of my Bronco by over a year due to widespread MIC hardtop defects. Despite that delay, the same failure has now occurred in my vehicle, just beyond the warranty period and with low mileage. Inspection availability: The vehicle and affected hardtop are available for inspection upon request. I have detailed photographs showing the extent and location of the cracks. Symptoms and warnings: There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the appearance of the defect. The cracks appeared gradually and became visibly obvious in June 2025.Read more

My Porsche Taycan unexpectedly applies the brakes on its own while traveling at highway speeds and flashes a red warning message instructing me to take control of the steering wheel, even though both of my hands are already on the wheel. This is extremely dangerous because sudden braking at high speeds creates a major risk of rear-end collisions and loss of control. When It Occurs: This issue sta
... rted recently and has happened multiple times under normal driving conditions (clear weather, open road, both hands on the wheel, no imminent obstacle). It appears to occur without warning and without any legitimate reason for emergency braking. Approximately 3 times in 1 month. Dealer Response: I reported the problem to my Porsche dealership. They claimed this behavior is “normal,” but also acknowledged that many other owners have experienced similar issues. Despite this, they offered no fix and did not classify it as a defect. I strongly disagree that this is normal—this is a critical safety hazard. I have another upcoming appointment for an additional check June 29, 2025. Safety Risk: Unexpected braking at highway speeds could lead to a rear-end crash, loss of control, or serious injury. This is not driver error. The vehicle is misinterpreting conditions or malfunctioning, and the warning to take control of the steering wheel despite both hands being on the wheel suggests a possible sensor or software failure.Read more

This vehicle has an engine which has rocker arms that are known to fail. The manufacturer has not issued a recall to fix this issue which can result in a catastrophic engine failure. They have acknowledged the rocker arms in pre 2018 models to be defective and insufficiently reinforced to handle the strain of the valve train.

The plastic roof trim panel on my 2015 Audi A3 is peeling and deteriorating significantly. This is not painted metal—it’s a separate, non-paintable plastic component that runs along the sunroof and roofline. The surface began flaking and lifting over time, and multiple independent body shops confirmed the panel is failing structurally and cannot be refinished—it must be replaced. While this
... may appear cosmetic, it’s not. The panel helps protect the roof seam and substructure. Its failure opens the door to water intrusion, corrosion, and potential roof integrity compromise—a serious safety concern, particularly in the event of a rollover or high-impact collision. Other owners of vehicles built on the same MQB/8V platform—including the VW Golf and SEAT Leon (not sold in the U.S., but structurally similar)—have reported identical issues, often followed by cracking or detachment of the panel. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this, Audi of America has been largely uncooperative. Their warranty process requires a diagnosis from a dealership, but most Audi dealers do not perform bodywork and refer customers to third-party shops—whose assessments Audi then refuses to accept. I’ve been left in a loop with no meaningful support, despite the issue being widespread and well-documented. I believe this is a design or materials defect that should be reviewed before it leads to broader safety or structural failures. See the below URL's for similar issues. I can email them later. I do find it interesting how all the affected cars seem to be blue (or at least darker in color). Perhaps excess heat is causing the issue?
