WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THERE ARE SPOTS THAT SEEM TO STICK AROUND THE 11 AND 1 O CLOCK MARKS. THIS PROBLEM COMES AND GOES, INDEPENDENT OF SPEED. NOW THE CAR SEEMS TO HAVE TROUBLE CORRECTING OUT OF A TURN AND MUST BE MANUALLY TURNED BACK TO CENTER. THE PROBLEMS SEEM TO BE GETTING WORSE.

RATHER THAN A SMOOTH LINEAR FEEDBACK THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS AS IF IT HAS NOTCHES IN IT. THE WHEEL AT TIMES CAN BE HARD TO MAINTAIN CENTERED AND KEEPING THE CAR ON A STRAIGHT TRACK REQUIRES CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT FROM ONE SIDE OF A NOTCH TO ANOTHER. THE DEALER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM.

AT THE TIME I WASN'T HAVING ANY PROBLEMS BUT TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND HAD THE COILS CHECKED. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THE CHECK

THIS SEEMED TO BECOME A ROUTINE WHENEVER I WENT TO THE DEALER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS SURELY TO COME ON. SO MUCH SO THAT I STOPPED GOING TO THAT DEALER FOR SERVICING, ITS NOT UNCOMMON TO HEAR THAT WOMEN THAT GO TO GET THEIR CAR SERVICED GET "SPECIAL'' TREATMENT. I AM ALWAYS SKEPTICAL OF THAT. AFTER THE DEALER PERFORMED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON MY VEHICLE, I DISCOVERED THAT MY TAIL LIGHTS NO LONGER WORKED, INCLUDING REAR BRAKE LIGHTS. VEHICLE BEGAN TO RUN VERY ROUGH AND STARTED TO SHAKE. PARKED AND STOPPED ENGINE. ON ATTEMPTING TO RESTART IT BRIEFLY FIRED BUT THEN DIED AND STALLED. SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE RESULTED IN IT TURNING OVER WITH NO APPARENT FIRING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE AUDI DEALER AND WE WERE INFORMED IT WAS DUE TO TIMING CHAIN SLIP. ... R IN THIS 2009 B8 2.0T ENGINE IS DEFECTIVE. THE HEAD AND PISTONS WERE ALL DAMAGED AND THE ENGINE WAS DECLARED UNREPAIRABLE BY THE AUDI DEALER. DEALER CHARGED $1300 FOR INSPECTING THE PISTONS AND WANTS $13,000 FOR A NEW ENGINE. THIS VEHICLE HAD REPLACEMENT PISTON RINGS OUT OF WARRANTY BUT AT NO CHARGE TO US DUE TO THE KNOWN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE (FOR WHICH THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT). AUDI INCREASED THE ENGINE WARRANTY FROM 4 TO 8 YEARS AS PART OF SETTLEMENT OF THIS CLASS ACTION, BUT ONLY IN RESPECT OF FAILURES RELATED TO THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. AUDI MAINTAINS THAT THIS ISSUE IS UNRELATED BUT THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT ANECDOTALLY SHE'S SEEN SEVERAL SUCH FAILURES AFTER PISTON RING REPLACEMENT (I HAVE THIS INTERACTION RECORDED ON VIDEO). SEARCHING ONLINE SHOWS THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL WEBSITES SELLING REPLACEMENT TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART THAT AUDI USES ON THIS ENGINE. AUDI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY FAULT ON THIS ISSUE. RED LINE SPEEDWORX WEBSITE WHICH SELLS UPGRADE KITS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART SAYS THAT TYPICALLY THIS FAILURE OCCURS AT 80K MILES PLUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 50MPH, AN MIL INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. A CONSISTENT CHANGE IN POWER OR DRIVABILITY WAS NOT EXPERIENCED IMMEDIATELY, BUT INTERMITTENT MOMENTS OF SLIGHT POWER LOSS WERE NOTICED (1 SECOND DROP IN POWER) DURING BOTH CRUISE OR ACCELERATION DURING THE REMAINING DRIVE HOME AFTER THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. ... S DISCONNECTED OR LOOSE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS, OIL LEVEL, ETC. I DID FIND A POOL OF OIL ON TOP OF THE CYLINDER HEAD POOLING AROUND THE INJECTOR PORTS. THIS CAUSED ME GREAT CONCERN, SO ON JULY 3, I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST AUDI DEALERSHIP. AFTER TWO DAYS, AN ASST. SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME TO PRESENT A DIAGNOSIS THAT THE EXHAUST FLAP, ASSOCIATED WITH THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM, REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AND THAT A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BY AUDI FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. THE OIL POOLING ON TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS ATTRIBUTED TO REMNANTS FROM A PREVIOUS SERVICE VISIT TO THIS SAME DEALERSHIP. THE ASST. SERVICE MANAGER REPORTED THAT THE OIL WAS CLEANED FROM TOP OF ENGINE AND THEN THE VEHICLE WAS TEST DRIVEN WITH NO PERCEIVABLE OIL DISCHARGE OCCURRING AFTERWARD. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE EXHAUST FLAP IS AN ISSUE FOR ALL VEHICLES WITH THE CBEA ENGINE TYPE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY AUDI DUE TO FAULTY QUALITY. BEING AN EMISSIONS COMPONENT, THE QUALITY OF THE EMISSIONS CONTROL MUST BE IMPACTED OR AT LEAST DETRIMENTAL TO OTHER COMPONENTS IN THE SYSTEM WHICH REGULATE THE EMISSION OF NOXIOUS GREENHOUSE GASES. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE DRIVABILITY COULD SUFFER TO A GREATER EXTENT OVERTIME IF THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM BECOMES COMPROMISED BY THIS FAULTY EQUIPMENT.
