The contact's cousin owns a 2013 Audi A5. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle began to overheat. The warning message "Pull Over and Check Coolant" was displayed. The contact veered to the side of the road and upon checking the coolant reservoir, the contact noticed that the coolant was leaking. The contact added coolant and was able to continue driving. However, t
... he failure reoccurred increasingly. The contact stated that the coolant would leak onto the ground while refilling the coolant reservoir. The contact stated that the vehicle was no longer drivable. The contact became aware that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V229000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair. However, as the contact's friend was picking up the vehicle on his behalf, he noticed that there was no coolant in the vehicle. The dealer then added coolant however, the failure recurred while driving. The dealer was notified and advised the contact that the failure was not associated with the recall. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the coolant pump sensor was replaced; however, the failure recurred a month later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the dealer had already marked the recall as completed. Additionally, the contact stated that the interior lights of the vehicle would fail to operate intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.Read more

Next morning 02/15/2022 started right up early morning no issues to be concerned with was on highway doing approx 69 mph, drove approximately 42 miles then then while only driving 35 mph 4 lane highway. Again, No warnings, but while DRIVING Engine and steering, just shut down. Almost causing me to be reared and then hit on passanger side. I don't even want to think what could have happened had this happened on interstate or if my children were in the vehicle. It was a very dangerous and scary situation even happening while only doing 35 mph. This should be considered a MAJOR recall. Vehicle was towed on 02/16/22 to Clearwater Audi. We did not receive vehicle back until after over 9 weeks, 04/22/22. Yesterday, 06/07/2022 Sensors glitching again and being called back into dealership. I asked her if there was a warranty and she mentioned that it was 12 months/ 12,000 miles and that my vehicle was over that time frame. I have took my vehicle serval times to Audi South Austin regarding the oil and coolant consumption. The first service was on 12/5/20regarding an oil change, multi point inspection, and coolant topped off. I was told if I had any issues with the oil or coolant consumption to let them know. I took my vehicle to Audi North Austin on 2/8/21 regarding my coolant and oil consumption. The told me that I had an oil and coolant leak. When I mentioned the recall of the coolant pump, they told me that the oil leak caused the coolant leak and wouldn’t be covered. I notified Audi South Austin regarding the issues and asked them why they didn’t notice the oil leak during the oil change and inspection. They told me that they would do the recall issue and charge me approximately $5,000 for the oil leak. After showing them the invoice from Audi North of the oil charge being approximately $1,500, they offered the same amount. I have returned to Audi South Austin regarding the oil consumption and oil marks on the side of my car and they technician tells me that it’s normal for my make and model to consume oil and that I would just have to add oil. I’m worried that there is an electrical issue regarding the auxiliary recall and could catch fire while I’m driving. I also have 2 children and it’s difficult driving in 96 degrees weather without A/C and having to wait 3-4 weeks.Read more

E-Tron with 9300 miles, received Electrical Malfunction: Contact Service. Audi service said to bring vehicle in. On way to dealer, warning changed to Electrical Malfunction: Pull over safely and then, before being able to do so, the vehicle jerked and died while in traffic. Fortunately, I had decided not to take the freeway and had enough momentum to coast to the side of the road, but the experi
... ence certainly stressed my nerves, especially since I could have chosen to be on the freeway in heavy, fast, multilane traffic. Dealer said it was a coolant leak into the front motor which killed the electrical motor. Subsequently discovered from research this has been happening since the 2019 model year in E-trons, and is likely related to a faulty gasket. I have not received my car back from repair so cannot yet confirm that this was the cause in my case. But a properly designed electric vehicle should not allow coolant to get into an electrical motor. Having a vehicle stop in traffic is a definite safety risk. In addition, I don’t know if Audi has redesigned the faulty parts to prevent this from reoccurring.Read more

Incident date: May 14, 2022
We were driving home on the interstate when suddenly we got an “Electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” notification. We pulled over to the shoulder and were able to restart the vehicle but the check engine light was on. We were able to get to the nearest exit when the error appeared again. This time as I was pulling over, the screen went blank and I completely lost power to the v
... ehicle. Thankfully this occurred in a very remote area and there were not a lot of cars around. If this had happened at a place without a shoulder (ex a construction zone, or a narrow winding mountain road) we would have had no place to pull over given the time between when we saw the error and when we lost power to the vehicle was only about ten seconds. At best we become a traffic obstruction. At worst if this occurred in a location with poor visibility we would be rear ended at extremely high velocity. Dealer diagnosed the issue and stated there is a tsb from audi. The fix, however, is only coming end of q3 2022. We are supposed to drive a car that could shut down at any moment in the meantime and just hope it doesn’t happen again, the dealer could not provide a fix they simply cleared the error codes. Dealer said they have had 3 other 2022 q5e come in with the same issue. The only indication of the failure came with the “Electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” error message. It appeared suddenly and we had no prior indication from the vehicle that something was wrong. We did have a check engine light after the error appeared the first time.Read more
