The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V237000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The transmissio
... n warning light was illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle off the road and parked it at a private residence. The contact turned off the vehicle and waited before restarting and driving to his residence. The contact then turned off the vehicle at the residence, but the instrument cluster remained on for 45 minutes before turning off on its own. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 260,000.Read more

This complaint concerns a 2016 Airstream Interstate motorhome that has experienced multiple safety-critical failures involving the electrical system, engine starting system, fuel/propulsion system, and electrically controlled exterior components. While driving at highway speed, the exterior power awning deployed without warning or user input. The awning repeatedly extended and retracted uncontrol
... lably, and the control switches were ineffective. I was forced to pull over on the freeway shoulder, cut electrical power to stop the motion, manually retract the awning, and secure it to prevent detachment. This created an immediate risk of collision and danger to surrounding motorists. Additional failures include complete engine non-start, generator failure, and a severe propane odor originating from the exterior propane system. The propane odor was strong enough to trigger the interior propane alarm, indicating a potential fire or explosion risk. The vehicle is now completely inoperable. The engine will not start and the ignition key will not turn. The vehicle cannot be driven and would require towing for inspection. These failures occurred progressively under normal use and were not caused by collision, misuse, or modification. This vehicle is a 2016 Airstream Interstate built on a 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis; the VIN corresponds to the Mercedes chassis model year.Read more

My vehicle has a documented excessive oil‑consumption defect. After a 1,000‑mile oil‑consumption test performed by a Hyundai dealership, the engine was found to have consumed 2.8 quarts of oil, which is far above normal and poses a safety risk. The dealer referenced TSB 23‑EM‑008H and recommended a chamber cleaning but could not guarantee it would resolve the issue. Hyundai Motor America
... declined to cover the repair and refused to escalate my case. This level of oil consumption is consistent with known Theta II engine defects that have led to engine seizure, stalling, and fire in other vehicles. I am the owner of a 2020 Airstream Atlas motorhome (VIN [XXX] ). The vehicle has a recurring and unresolved slide-out defect that presents a serious safety hazard. While driving at highway speeds, the slide-out repeatedly disengaged and extended approximately 2–3 inches, triggering alarms and forcing me to pull over multiple times to reset the system. This occurred on numerous occasions during a
... long trip and posed a danger to myself and other motorists. The slide-out defect was documented previously under the prior owner at low mileage and was not permanently repaired. Despite extended repair attempts, the condition persists. After operating the vehicle with this unresolved slide-out defect, structural cracking appeared in the body/roof area of the motorhome. The manufacturer, Airstream, has declined warranty coverage for the cracking despite a formal claim submission. The vehicle has experienced excessive downtime for repairs, no loaner was provided, and the safety defect has not been resolved. I am concerned that the slide-out failure compromises the structural integrity of the motorhome and creates an unsafe condition during normal driving. To date, I have brought the vehicle to the service department four times, primarily due to the check engine light and other critical malfunctions. Below is a summary of the incidents: First Visit (approx July 2024): The vehicle suddenly lost acceleration while I was in traffic, leaving me stranded in the roadway. This posed a serious safety risk. The vehicle remained in the shop for 28 days. Secon
... d Visit (September 29, 2024): Multiple warning lights illuminated, and several diagnostic codes were detected. Third visit (do not recall the issue): Will find work orders if needed Most Recent Visit (December 3, 2025): A coolant leak caused the temperature gauge to spike, resulting in the air conditioning shutting off due to overheating. The next day the check engine light came on. I had no warning prior to the guage spiking. In addition to these major issues, the following concerns remain unresolved: Brakes continue to squeal. The dealership advised this is normal and that front brakes wear faster. Reverse sensor activates randomly, causing the brakes to engage abruptly. Also the front crash sensor triggers without any obstruction ahead. The dealership recommended disabling this safety feature. These recurring problems raise serious safety concerns and significantly impact the reliability of the vehicle. The advice to disable safety features is unacceptable and does not address the underlying issues.Read more

Approximately 3.5 weeks ago my 2017 Chevrolet Volt (105K miles) would not start and then, when it did, was in "Reduced Power Mode". I had to drive home 25+ miles in this low power mode. I brought to my local mechanic (not a Chevrolet dealership) first. They did a diagnostic and told me the issue was "Battery Energy Control Module" - a known issue in 2016-2018 Chevrolet Volts affecting 19,000 vehi
... cles for Chevrolet provided extended warranty coverage for up to 15 years/150,000 miles. See Special Coverage N232432680. I was not able to get an appointment for 9 days at the Chevrolet dealership in Oxford PA. The vehicle needed to be towed there because it wouldn't start. Chevrolet dealership said it was not the Battery Energy Control Module but rather the 12V battery. They replaced battery, I picked up vehicle and paid $525+ for diagnostic and new battery. By the next day, the vehicle wouldn't start again. I brought the vehicle back and they did diagnostic again and this time determined it WAS the Battery Energy Control Module. Dealership said Chevrolet has not included your VIN in the Special Coverage and didn't know why not. I called Chevrolet/GM customer service (800-222-1020) and spoke with two people including an escalation supervisor and both said the VIN for my vehicle was not included because it was determined that would not be part of the Special Coverage they've offered. We went round and round and no one will give an answer as to why there is a KNOWN issue for 2016-2018 Chevrolet Volts yet my vehicle is being excluded. They said they have no ability to change it and include it in the Special Coverage. If months or years down the road, they determine it should have been included then they'll reimburse me. That answer is unacceptable. Between repairs, initial misdiagnoses and repair and rental car fees, I'm out over $5,000.Read more

Hello, My subaru crosstrek 2018 has been brought to Subaru service departments in both CA and MA for the same issue. I have brought in my car 3-4 times for recurrent problems where the battery in the car dies. The battery has been replaced multiple times and I have brought it to Subaru Service departments both in Massachusetts and California, all of whom tell me that the battery needs to be repla
... ced, over and over again. I called and filed a report with Subaru of America who directed me to a third party representative who deals with claims regarding subarus and their recurrent battery issues and was informed that my subaru is not eligible for reimbursement for recurrent issues with batterys, nor is it a model that is eligible for an extended warranty given the battery issues. This is a huge safety issue for me. I have found myself in empty parking garages at night with a dead battery where I have had to stay locked in my car while I call a tow/AAA service to come and jump my car. I have missed countless days of work due to this issue. I have been late to pick up my child from daycare. I have spent thousands of dollars missing work, getting ubers while my car is in the shop, using rental cars, calling tow companies while this issue has been ongoing for two years. In addition, I have spent hundreds of dollars on portable battery chargers so that I do not get stranded with a battery-less car. I have raised this issue to the Subaru service departments multiple times, as well as Subaru of America with no solution.Read more

While merging onto the freeway, I merged into the blindspot of a truck which had moved over to let traffic onto the freeway. As I was getting up to speed to get out of the truck's blindspot, the truck began merging into my lane. The placement of the horn is by design. It was working as intended.Read more

In August 2022 I noticed that the door to our Airstream trailer was somewhat loose on its hinges and sagged slightly when opened. Inspection revealed that the hinges were not tight against the door frame. The door has two hinges that appear to be machined aluminum. Each hinge is attached to the exterior of the door frame with two bolts. The hinge attachments to the door itself appear to be sec
... ure. I attempted to tighten the bolts with a screwdriver, but the bolts would not tighten, as though stripped. I removed one of the bolts to attempt to diagnose what was happening, and the entire door fell off the trailer (completely separated from the trailer). Fortunately we were parked at the time, and the door had not separated while driving. I secured the door inside the trailer, covered the door opening with a tarp secured by duct tape, and drove home. I investigated the problem by partially removing the interior aluminum skin around the door frame and discovered that each bolt was secured inside the wall of the trailer by a single hex nut with an attached star washer. These nuts had come free from the screws, leaving the door secured only by friction of the bolts on the hinge bolt holes and by the door latch, which is on the forward-facing edge of the door. The door frame is a curved aluminum channel. Due to the design of the door and the hinges, the star washer for the nuts that secure the hinge bolts do not have a flat surface to bite into. As can be seen, they easily come loose. The hinge attachment appears to me to use a flawed and potentially dangerous design, as the bolts cannot be inspected or properly tightened without opening the interior wall of the trailer. The risk is that the door may become detached while driving, which would pose a serious hazard to other vehicles on the roadway.Read more

I am writing about a 2021 Airstream Basecamp X AC unit. The bolts that hold the AC unit on top of the trailer stripped out of whatever was holding the unit on top of the trailer. Fortunately the trailer only suffered water damage during a rain storm but I understand that the unit was no longer secured to the roof and other owners have actually experienced the unit falling off the roof in transit.
... Because we didn't know this happened until the rainstorm and subsequent leak, it is certain we were unknowingly driving the vehicle on the road with an unsecured AC unit. Apparently there has been a recall for this problem on earlier models of the Basecamp and Airstream was to alter their production to address it. Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-195. It seems the problem has not been addressed in production. Clearly, if one of these units falls off in transit, it can cause a cataclysmic accident. Airstream has provided the local dealer with a kit of some sort to reinstall the unit but that doesn't speak to other units that have been manufactured since the recall date like ours that could experience the same problem. Because we were outside the recall dates, we were not informed about this and clearly there was the expectation by the NHTSA that Airstream corrected the problem in their manufacturing and installation process. Given what happened to our trailer, it would seem the problem has not been addressed.Read more

The Air Stream Basecamp rock guard shield Southco fasteners have repeatedly failed and dropped out while traveling. We had a full replacement of all the Southco fasteners for the three rock guard shields installed on our 2020 Air Stream basecamp X trailer while we were traveling July 2020. Replacement service was handled under warranty by an Air Stream service department. While on a May 2021 trip
... , we again had a Southco fastener drop out of a rock shield. We only notice the fasteners are missing when we stop for gas, not while in transit. We are working with with the local Air Stream service department to replace the current missing fastener, again under warranty. It would be extremely dangerous if both of the Southco rock guard fasteners fall out of a shield while driving down the road with the trailer. Nothing would stop the shield from swinging open, breaking off due to wind pressure, and hitting other vehicles, causing serious injury and expensive repair.Read more
