LOW IDLING RPM HOVERING AROUND 500RPM AND TRIES TO REGAIN THE APPROPRIATE IDLING RPM TO AROUND 600-700RPM. HARD DOWNSHIFTS OCCASIONALLY FROM 2ND TO 1ST GEAR, ESPECIALLY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC

I OWNED A 2007 ACURA RDX. ALMOST ONE MONTH AGO, ON AUG 29TH, 2018, I WAS REAR-ENDED ON A FREEWAY, WHILE STOPPED DUE TO TRAFFIC. THE POLICE REPORT SHOWED THE AT-FAULT DRIVER WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 50MPH. THE IMPACT FROM THIS ACCIDENT BROKE BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATBACKS AND HEADRESTS, WHERE THEY WERE ALMOST TOUCHING THE BACK SEATS AND WE WERE LAYING DOWN LOOKING AT THE ROOF OF THE CAR

THE AIRBAG WAS REMOVED FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND WHEN THE AIRBAG WAS MOVED AROUND, THERE WAS A SOUND SIMILAR TO THE SOUND FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNED. THE ACURA TECH TEAM HAS BEEN INFORMED. THIS SOUND WAS EVIDENCED TO BE IN ACURA MODEL YEARS 2017 AND 2018. THE SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN/AIRBAG LOCATION BECOMES EVEN MORE PRONOUNCED AS MORE MILES ARE PUT ON THE VEHICLE. ACURA WILL NOT INVESTIGATE FURTHER AS THE MODEL HAS BEEN REDESIGNED AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN ADDITIONAL RECALLS. I HAVE DRIVEN NUMEROUS OTHER ACURA LOANER VEHICLES AND NO OTHER ACURA VEHICLES HAVE MADE THIS SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN/AIR BAG. THE SOUND STARTS TO OCCUR AFTER THE STEERING COLUMN HAS BEEN ROTATED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT 180 DEGREES - SUCH AS GOING UP OR DOWN A PARKING RAMP. ONCE THE SOUND HAS STARTED, IT PERSISTS AND CONRINUES TO GET LOUDER OVER TIME. I HAVE ONLY 7800 MILES ON MY VEHICLE, BUT THE SOUND WAS ALSO RECORDED IN VEHICLES WITH OVER 20,000 MILES. I FEEL THIS SOUND COULD BE THE AIRBAG BEING CAUGHT IN THE ROTATION OF THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTER SWITCHING TO DRIVE FROM REVERSE THE NAV DISPLAY WOULD NOT SWITCH BACK FROM THE BACK UP CAMERA WHILE DRIVING AHEAD, WHEN A CAR WOULD BE ANYWHERE NEAR MINE ON THE ROAD, STILL IN DRIVE, WHETHER IDLE AT A STOP LIGHT OR IN MOTION ON THE STREET, THE BACK UP SENSORS THAT RESPOND TO PASSING CARS DID NOT BEEP. I TRIED PRESSING THE BACK BUTTON, NAV BUTTON, SETTINGS BUTTON & TURNING THE CAR ON/OFF ALL

ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. I HAD JUST DRIVEN MY ACURA FOR APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES AND STOPPED TO GET A BOTTLE OF WATER. WHEN I CAME BACK OUT AND RESTARTED THE CAR, THE EPS FAILURE WARNING APPEARED IN THE INFO CENTER AN A CODE 32 SHOWED UP IN THE MESSAGE CENTER.. I HAD TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE FOR OVER 700 MILES UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO MY LOCAL ACURA DEALER. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM A
... ND ORDERED A NEW EPS MODULE. TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR EXCEEDED $1100. I CONTACTED ACURA TO REQUEST A GOODWILL DISCOUNT SINCE I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A CATROPHIC STEERING FAILURE IN ANY VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THAT SINCE I WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE VEHICLE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE CAR IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY, HOWEVER IT SEEMS RIDICULOUS THAT A CRITICAL COMPONENT PART THAT FAILS WITHIN THE FIRST 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILE IN A NEW VEHICLE IS UNCOMPREHENSIBLE TO ME. I HAVE NEVER HAD A POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAIL COMPLETELY. I ASKED FOR HOW MANY FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED AND THE WOULD NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION. UNFORTUNATELY WHEN I EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE WITH A ENGINE SURGE, QUESTIONING THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AS A CULPRIT THEY GAVE ME THE SAME BLANKET ANSWER THAT THEY HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE.
