My passenger and I, and the car behind us were put at serious risk of collision at ~ 85 mph, due to the completely unexpected and extremely rapid braking. This was under simple autopilot, no FSD or other driving assist. Nothing has been inspected yet, or reproduced past these 2 incidents. No warnings or symptoms occurred before or after this issue. The Police and contact suspected that the fire was set intentionally; however, upon further investigation, the contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 05V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) which the contact linked to the fire. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle remained at the residence after the fire. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and requested pictures of the damages. And it did not shift higher than 9th gear while cruise control was engaged even at lower speeds. The transmission then began to experience harder shifting, and gained a shutter like a clutch pack not engaging properly form 1-3rd gear, and sporadic shifting under light normal driving conditions at random intervals and remains to now have a normal operating temp of 204 degrees under normal driving conditions. Took it to be diagnosed at a ford dealer and it was the CDF drum that lead to a a cascade of issues leading to the transmission needing replacement. Since the filter doesn't affect throttle, I declined, plus in 2022 on an extended warranty I went to dealer to have the filter replaced, instead they regen'd it & left the bad part in my car. Now the corporate Care Manager wants the DPF replaced for $6K b4 proceeding with any further testing to identify the source of the acceleration problem. The shop mgr, Joseph, was test driving & the car did take off and was not stoppable with the brakes. That was confirmed, yet VW of America is still in a holding pattern and cannot explain why this is happening. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM. The car takes off out of control unexpectedly, and the brakes won't stop the force forward. PLEASE help me, I cannot stress enough the danger this car puts me and others in, and it is my only vehicle. The dealer is trying but corporate is being difficult and are not interested in compromise. The DPF, emissions issues they have had, have nothing to do with the acceleration and they just refuse to move forward or discuss anything else. On 4/8/25, I was driving the car at moderate speed in the center lane of a large street and while changing from the middle lane to the right lane to prepare to turn right at the next street, the car started accelerating rapidly and to make a loud noise. Fortunately, I was able to brake and the car went back to normal. We went to the Toyota dealer the next day 4/9/25 and told our concerns to the service advisor and the shop foreman. They checked the car, including with a computer. The foreman and I both drove the car. He said they did not find any mechanical/electronic issues and the only explanation is that if I hit the cruise control (which I never use), as he saw my hand close to that button while I drove. He said to avoid the cruise control and it will be ok. They did not charge us for the visit. The third time was on 6/15/25 when we again went to the car wash. I was very careful as this was the same location as our first time. Just like before, I lightly applied the accelerator pedal and suddenly the car accelerated rapidly and made a loud noise. However, the acceleration was much more rapid than before and I was not able to brake in time and the car crashed into the pole of the car wash about 45 feet away. The airbags deployed and the car was totaled. We were pulled from the wreckage and ended in the emergency room. Luckily no one was seriously injured. My vehicle has over 200,000 miles, so the extended warranty for the lead frame (program 19N01) no longer applies, but this is a serious safety defect that continues after the recall. I’m requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue, as it seems the recall fix is not effective in all cases. Many other owners report similar symptoms even after the recall. The driver was pulling into a friend's carport. After crossing a small curb her foot was taken off the gas and was moving to the brake. The car was going slightly uphill as slow as a car can go with no gas pedal depressed. The car then accelerated as if someone pressed the gas to the floor. ... r SUV was pushed forward 4 feet. The gas pedal was never pushed by the driver. No failed component was ever identified by multiple inspections by the Toyota dealership, the insurance company, the body shop and the 3rd party company hired by Toyota to download the ACM data and the Vehicle Control History. We had filed a complaint with the Toyota Brand Engagement center hoping Toyota would make a proper investigation. A police report was made also. No one was injured but the homeowner was standing a few feet away. It could have been much worse. There were no warning messages, the emergency braking did not engage, and the airbags did not deploy. Earlier in the day the car's proximity sensors were beeping with no indication of what was setting them off. It took 3 cycles of park to drive to stop the beeps. The driver even walked around the car to try to identify what was setting it off. After the crash the passenger side rear window went down by itself and the rear liftgate went up. It took 7 weeks for Toyota Corp Legal to respond saying they found nothing wrong. To this day they have not shared the Vehicle Control History raw data with us. Their response made no mention of them looking into a failure of the ADAS system with regard to the Cruise Control or any other sensors that send signals to the throttle. It is extremely expensive to fix and is specific to mercedes meaning it has to be done by a MB dealership. We applied for good will for assistance but were denied. The car has been maintained very well - this is not a maintenance issue but a specific sensor failure of a mercedes sensor in the transmission. We are thankful no one was hurt - we had our 8 year old daughter in the car when stalling out several times at red lights and it's been a very scary situation.Read more
