I own a 2016 Mazda CX-5 Touring with AWD. I purchased it brand new from a dealer--no miles on it. It's been a great car until this Sudden Unintended Acceleration problem (about 60K miles now). ... ace car in neutral. That seemed to resolve the problem. However, recently I pulled up to my (rural) mailbox and the car tried to accelerate out of control. I had the brake on (was on a downhill) when it happened, so this was scary. I really had to press down more on the brake pedal, then shifted to neutral, then to park. The acceleration finally stopped. I did not observe tachometer readings during this or other events, but will pay more attention if/when this happens in the future. I do not drive with both feet, and as these incidents have occurred I have been able to maintain more composure and analyze what is going on. I am not getting my foot caught in the mat and I'm not mistakenly pressing on the accelerator. I've been to my local Mazda dealer (Sport Durst in Durham) on May 13, 2022 and they were unable to replicate the problem, so could not repair or even troubleshoot it. The car was T-boned about a year ago, with some damage to the passenger front tire. Could that have anything to do with my problems? My partner feels this could be an issue with the Throttle Control Sensor (hardware) or with the software managing throttle control (much more difficult to diagnose, he says). I wanted to ask: for anyone experiencing this problem, did replacing the Throttle Control Sensor or diagnosing software problems resolve the issue? And, do you have any recommendations for me? Since the car is (barely) out of warranty, (just over 6 yrs/60,000 miles) would filing a claim with Mazda be a good approach? Would you suggest I just trade the car in?Read more

I purchased a new 2022 Lincoln Navigator Reserve L and just took a 3000 mile road trip and used their Active Glide driver assistance extensively and have uncovered a MAJOR safety issue with their system. The issue I found is that when using the adaptive cruise control feature the system will sometimes read a car in the adjacent lane as moving in front of my vehicle and apply the brakes very hard

This happens mostly on curves when the straight line of sight sees the car in either the right or left lane next to me at about a 20' distance. There is no warning of brake application and can make the driver lose control. I was almost rear ended multiple times. I know the driver assistance requires the driver to be attentive - and fortunately I heeded these warnings. The vehicle was then towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle system automatically contacted emergency. The police and fire and paramedics arrived on the scene. There was a police report filed. The contact and his wife were unconscious. The police cut the seat belt to pull the contact out safely; however, the wife released herself. The wife injured her left knee; while the contact was injured with bruises and smoke inhalation. The paramedics transported the contact and wife to the hospital. They both received medical treatments and x-ray, then were admitted to the hospital for an overnight stay. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Following the restart on the second attempt, and the RPMs around 4000, warning lights and the check engine light would not go out, which has been a common occurrence with this model motorcycle. The motorcycle then went into "limp Mode" whereas it would not exceed 20-30 MPH (slower on hills) on the ride home and to the dealer for another repair attempt. The safety risk is that while riding the motorcycle home at 20-30 MPH, other traffic is swerving around and passing at 40-50-60 MPH, creating a hazard for the rider. In addition, the 4000 RPM idle makes control of the motorcycle more difficult when stopping and starting.Read more

As these indicators were displayed, simultaneously the vehicle decelerated to an almost complete stop on the road (though I was pressing gas pedal to floor) and then to a complete stop as I was able to blessedly pull over to a gas station without getting hit (the car sounded like putt, putt as it shut down). The vehicle would not start even though I cleaned off the sensors this time...I sat for about 15-30 minutes and the vehicle restarted and resume normal operations until I was able to get home safely. This happened again on 15 July 2022 while I was driving on I-75N, a truly busy interstate, I was switching lanes to get to the far right lane when all of a sudden, the aforementioned indicator lamps displayed and the vehicle decelerated to a complete stop as I was able to pull over onto the shoulder of the highway...I believe since I had a family member following me, that definitely kept an accident from occurring along with the oversight of the good Lord. While we sat and waited for tow services, I tried wiping the sensors to no avail...yet, upon 30 minutes of waiting, the vehicle restarted and resumed normal operations. I drove vehicle to an auto shop in which they did a vehicle diagnostics check and couldn't find anything wrong...they even drove vehicle to see if problem would reoccur but to no avail.Read more

I have not had the vehicle inspected by a dealer because this only occurs very randomly(5-10 times in 12,00 miles) and to reproduce it would likely require hours of driving. I am only able to speciically list one date that I know that this problem occured while my friends and I were on a 12 hour road trip back from watching an NFL game. Thankfully I was driving and was already aware of the issue and quickly accelerated away from the 18 wheeler that was tailgating dangerously close behind me. When driving at highway speeds on open roads with light traffic with the adaptive cruise control ON the car would severely brake at random. I have seen this referred to a "Phantom Braking" in other reports. This happens several times an hour and the brakes are severely applied automatically, reducing the speed from 70-80mph to 40-50mph before I can intervene by stepping on the accelerator pedal.
... It is a frightening experience and can throw the driver and passengers up against the seat belts. This is a critical safety issue because it can result in a rear end accident if a car is following too closely. I have not taken the vehicle for inspection yet but I see there are many reports of this same problem on social media and the NTSB has already opened an investigation on this problem. There has been no accidents to cause these problems. The manufacturer has not been able to help me locate any replacement parts despite pre-paying for the expensive module. I have been waiting 6 weeks without anyone being able to tell me when a module is expected. Meanwhile I do not know what else will stop working on my car. Ford has had a history of problems with the APIM modules and there was even a class action suit that was won by the consumer for the same thing in Lincoln vehicles. Less catastrophic results can include failure to start; which can 'strand' driver's and passengers in remote areas, bad weather conditions, as well as cause loss of use for weeks due to delays in replacement parts and local Dealerships needing equipment and training to effect removal/replacement of faulty unit with a new HVBJB having re-designed 'beefier' components. My complaint is that Ford's recall notice 22s41 is a software-only attempt to prevent future damage, and does not require removal of the part(s) which are KNOWN TO FAIL to be replaced with the re-designed components which are available, and have been used to repair failures under warranty. I have no way of inspecting the original equipment to evaluate current condition; and failure can result in sudden and unexpected loss of power, steering, and braking as well as potentially 'stranding me' in unsafe conditions unable to re-start my vehicle. I would like to see NHTSA strengthen the Ford recall to include both improved software AND removal/replacement of the HVBJB sub-assembly with the new 'beefier' parts.Read more

I almost got rear-ended by a large truck. This Ryker is NOT safe to drive. Has been taking to the dealer five times to try and fix the problem but so far it persists.
