I am reporting a serious safety issue involving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid (VIN: [XXX] ), originally purchased in California. While driving at approximately 70 mph on a highway, the vehicle suddenly lost all propulsion without warning and rapidly decelerated. This created a dangerous situation with surrounding traffic and put me and my family at risk. I had to quickly maneuver to the sh
... oulder to avoid a potential collision. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Hyundai dealership in Utah, where it was diagnosed with a failure of the high-voltage battery system. I was informed that the battery requires replacement. This type of sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed is extremely hazardous and could result in a crash, injury, or fatality. There were no prior warnings indicating an imminent failure of this severity. Given the safety risk associated with unexpected loss of propulsion, I am concerned this may represent a broader issue affecting similar vehicles. The vehicle is equipped with an interior camera, and video of the incident can be provided if needed. I respectfully request that this issue be investigated as a potential safety defect. I have not received any response or confirmation of receipt. I want to correct my earlier characterization — after further research, I understand that 20B39 is a Customer Satisfaction Program, not a safety recall. That said, the core issue and my position remain the same, and I want to lay out where things stand clearly. The situation: - My vehicle is covered under CSP 20B39 (Front View and CHMSL Camera — PCB conductivity issue causing intermittent camera operation) - The program is in effect through November 30, 2030 or 150,000 miles, and the repair is to be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner - My servicing dealer, Santa Margarita Ford, attempted to complete the CSP work but could not because the vehicle's Gateway Module is not communicating properly - The dealer has advised that the Gateway Module must be replaced before the camera work under XXX can be completed My position: Ford issued CSP XXX and committed to completing this repair at no charge. If the Gateway Module must be functional in order for Ford's own program to be executed, then resolving the Gateway Module issue is Ford's prerequisite to meet — not an out-of-pocket cost to push to the customer. Q1: The steering and front suspension system malfunctioned. The vehicle experiences a severe “death wobble,” violent and uncontrolled shaking/oscillation of the steering wheel and front end after hitting bumps or uneven pavement, especially at higher speeds. The suspected affected components may include the steering linkage, track bar, steering damper/stabilizer, ball joints, tie rods, control
... arms, bushings, alignment/caster, or other front suspension/steering components. Q2: The defect causes violent steering wheel and front-end shaking while driving, creating a loss of stable steering control. When the wobble occurs, the vehicle becomes difficult to control and I have to slow down significantly to regain control. This creates a serious risk of a crash, especially at highway speeds, in traffic, on curves, or if another driver is nearby. The first time it happened I was on the highway near two tractor trailers who recognized the issue and slow down for me too. The condition puts me, my passengers, other motorists, pedestrians, and anyone near the roadway at risk because the vehicle can suddenly become unstable after normal road bumps or pavement irregularities. Q3: The problem has been brought to an local mechanic 3 times for repair or diagnosis, but the issue has not been resolved. The vehicle continues to experience the same severe steering/front-end wobble after those repair attempts. As of this complaint, the issue has not yet been formally diagnosed or resolved by an authorized Jeep dealer. I am filing this complaint because the condition remains unresolved and I believe it is a serious safety defect. Q4: The vehicle has been inspected and repaired by an local mechanic on 3 occasions related to this issue. The Healy dealership fixed the last recall right before this. I called them on the way home from the dealership when it first happened. Q4: There were no warning lamps or dashboard message before the wobble occurred. Became more aggressive in Jan 2026.Read more

Component/System Failure: The rear subframe on my 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 failed due to severe corrosion/rusting. The subframe is available for inspection upon request. While driving at highway speeds, the structural integrity of the vehicle was compromised, I had to break and lost control of the vehicle and almost causing a

Confirmation of Problem: The issue has been confirmed by a Mercedes-Benz dealership service department, who identified the subframe as rusted and structurally compromised. Inspection by Other Parties: The vehicle has been inspected by a Mercedes-Benz dealership. It has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives. Warning Signs Prior to Failure: There were no clear warning lights or dashboard messages indicating this issue prior to the failure. The problem appears to have progressed without visible warning until it became severe. Additional Context / History: Mercedes-Benz has acknowledged subframe corrosion defects in certain vehicles from approximately 2010–2020, but my specific vehicle was not included in the extended warranty coverage. This is the second Mercedes-Benz vehicle I have owned (previously a 2012 model) that has experienced the same subframe failure. I was previously told that this issue had been resolved in newer models, which influenced my decision to purchase this vehicle. Additionally, this vehicle was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz, which implies it passed a detailed inspection process. Despite this, a major structural component failed. A warranty claim was submitted but denied on the basis of “rust,” even though this appears consistent with a known factory defect.Read more

The representative advised me not to worry and stated that the vehicle likely came to a safe stop location and that there appeared to be no issue since the system had recovered. I was told the vehicle was safe to continue driving. However, this information did not reflect what actually occurred. The vehicle had stopped in the middle of an active roadway, not in a safe location. After the system temporarily became operable again, I continued driving as instructed. However, during a second drive shortly after, the exact same issue occurred again within approximately 10–15 minutes, this time on a much larger and heavily trafficked road.
