I am filing this complaint regarding a widespread design defect affecting 2016-2018 Chevrolet Impala vehicles with 3.6L V-6 engines, and General Motors' systematic denial of legitimate warranty claims under Special Coverage Adjustment N182186881-01 through arbitrary VIN-based exclusions. My 2017 Chevrolet Impala Premier (VIN: [XXX], in service August 5, 2017) developed an evaporator core failure

Despite meeting every published criterion, GM denied coverage, claimed my VIN was excluded, and has refused to provide any substantive explanation of the exclusion criteria. GM's Special Coverage bulletin explicitly committed to notifying affected customers. I never received notification, despite GM demonstrably having my contact information (I received airbag recall notices for the same vehicle). This failure caused me to lose the benefit of both the Special Coverage and a separately purchased $1,766.00 extended warranty -- a documented double loss. My vehicle has been without air conditioning for over four and a half years. Documented expenses: $671.02 in diagnostics, $206.00 unreturned deposit to Criswell Chevrolet (Gaithersburg, MD). Repair estimate: $1,700-$2,680. Other 2017 Impala owners report identical VIN-based denials despite meeting all published criteria. I have filed complaints with the Maryland AG, BBB, and Montgomery County OCP (Case No. XXX active mediation). The dealership repeatedly misrepresented the repair as complete when it was not. I previously owned a BMW X5 for three years with no HUD or speed limit display issues, confirming this is a defect and not normal system behavior. The vehicle was purchased new in November 2025 and remains under warranty. Despite multiple failed repair attempts, the defect persists and continues to compromise safe vehicle operation. The CRV had injector PN: 16010-5PA-305, also manufactured by Keihin, which was also later revised to 06160-..., but the CRV was not given the same warranty extension, suggesting Honda acknowledged the same defect pattern across both injector families but chose not to extend equivalent coverage to the CRV. 21-010 also details that debris from the high pressure pump may contribute, and the CRV experienced the same fuel pump recall for low density impellers that these vehicles did. Honda is also obligated under TSB 98-081 to perform emissions services due to OBD inadequacy, which this vehicle experienced. Misfires were felt for months with no CEL. The Norm Reeves Honda parts catalog classifies injectors as emissions components, implying they should be covered. However, a Honda dealer in CA, mandated by CARB and EPA, refused to do the repairs or make any goodwill attempt on my behalf. I then reached out to American Honda, who delayed assigning a case manager as long as possible, then required phone contact after initially accepting alternate communication methods, then assigned a case manager whose hours conflicted with my stated availability, then assigned a second who has not answered the phone. Parked my car at home at 3pm on 11/20/25. At 3:07 my neighbor banged on my front door & told me my car is on fire. The fire was under the hood with flames emerging in front of the windshield. Called 911 as we got to safety. Within minutes, the car was engulfed in flames & we watched as it went up in flames, with popping sounds, glass breaking, alarms going off, & the siding melting off the house,
... etc until the FD got there. They put out the fire, & checked the home- the car was a total loss, & the front of the house needed major repairs. We had a fire investigator come within days seeing that the fire was hottest on the drivers side. A report was submitted for insurance, as well as claims to car and home. No warning lights, or problems appeared prior to. My insurance company did not report anything to Genesis, so I reached out on 1/3/26, & they sent me a letter offering a $1500 good faith settlement but wanted me to exclude/release myself from any further future claims, actions, etc. They claim they were not given the option to do their own investigation (the car was in my driveway for 2.5 weeks). The insurance company said they'd reach out the them- so we did not. We looked at the pile of ash, & smelled chemicals for weeks. I countered their offer (as Genesis cars from this year (& more) have had fires & mine could potentially be included). They were reviewing my offer for a month & asked if I retained a lawyer, or just got guidance (I just got guidance). They declined my counter offer, & four days (2/17/26) later they overnight-ed their initial offer, stating I had 5 days to accept, or my case would soft close on 2/25/26. I recently asked to have the case reopened. Genesis continues to issue multiple recall notices affecting various models, increasing the risk of fire. I am now reporting this in the hopes someone else doesn't have to go through what I did. I have more documents if needed.Read more

On June 7, 2026, I was driving my 2020 GMC Terrain. I was going at about 40MPH along a very busy main road. While slowing for a red light the Check Engine Light turned on and the car displayed a notice about reduced engine power. Seconds later, the brake pedal became stuck and would not press down all the way and I lost braking ability. The car rattled/shook violently, made a grinding noise, and t
... hen the engine shut off and the car stopped abruptly, narrowly avoiding hitting the car in front of us. I turned on the hazard lights. I was not able to get the car to start again, nor was I able to get the car to shift into any other gear including neutral. We were nearly hit by other vehicles multiple times while attempting to get the car to move again, and to get myself and my child safely out of the road. Myself and multiple bystanders attempted to engage the transmission interlock override multiple time. We were eventually able to engage it and push the car to the side of the road. This failure created an extremely unsafe situation for all involved as this road is very busy and there were numerous near-collisions both with my disabled vehicle, and with other drivers serving out of the way and into other lanes at the last second. As time went on and the battery drained, most of the car's exterior lights turned off and other drivers had a hard time seeing my car. I used a strobe flashlight to alert other drivers but this required that I had to stand in the road near the vehicle. Police were called immediately when I found that we could not move the car out of the road, but they did not arrive. Ultimately the vehicle was stuck and inoperable in a travel lane for over two hours. The car was then towed to a nearby repair shop. The mechanic evaluation stated that the brake vacuum pump had failed resulting in loss of braking ability and expensive damage to the engine and other components. This incident caused additional damage to the vehicle, with noticeable damage to the quarter panel. The issue with the subframe was confirmed by an independent service center due to the lack of a Mitsubishi dealer is proximity. However, a Mitsubishi dealer was contacted but no response was received. It is believed that this issue is associated with the discovered Unrepaired Recalls associated with this VIN. A police officer arrived at the incident and a tow truck was ordered by the officer due to the danger of remaining in the location of the incident. The issue with the subframe first appeared on Sunday, May 31st 2026 with a noise produced by the vehicle while driving on unsmooth roads and through turns. The vehicle was inspected by an independent service center on Thursday, June 4th 2026 and significant erosion was discovered on the front subframe. A Mitsubishi dealer was contacted on Friday, June 5th 2026 and a voicemail was left. No contact was received. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 6th 2026. In addition to this incident, the vehicle has experienced multiple gear shifter failures that have rendered the truck undrivable on numerous occasions. The truck has been returned to the dealership multiple times for diagnosis and repair of the shifter system. The vehicle has also experienced battery-related failures requiring roadside assistance on two occasions and a tow to a dealership. The problems have been reproduced through repeated occurrences requiring dealership service. The vehicle has been inspected by authorized Ram dealerships on multiple occasions and repair attempts have been performed. The manufacturer, Stellantis/Ram, has also been notified through a customer assistance case. I do not recall receiving any warning that the vehicle would unexpectedly enter Off-Road mode prior to the incident. However, the vehicle has displayed various warning messages and symptoms associated with prior shifter and battery failures. Exact warning messages are unknown. The vehicle has also experienced unusually rapid battery depletion, raising concern that it could become disabled unexpectedly in traffic, severe weather, or an unsafe location. Any relationship between the battery issue and the braking problem is UNKNOWN. The vehicle has been taken to authorized Acura dealerships multiple times, including Acura of Westchester and Curry Acura. The condition was reported repeatedly. The dealers stated they could not duplicate it, even after an extended road test of more than 300 miles. No permanent diagnosis or repair was provided, and the problem remains unresolved. Acura/American Honda was notified and opened a corporate case. There were no consistent warning lights or dashboard messages before the incidents. Because the malfunction is intermittent and may occur without warning, I cannot predict when the vehicle will jerk or fail to stop smoothly. The panoramic sunroof cover shade completely detached from the side tracks and the rear roller mechanism failed. ... ess. The windshield has a factory OEM rubber seal attached to a NEW windshield. This rubber seal is NOT a part that can be purchased separately to fix the problem. By replacing the entire windshield with the new factory rubber seal and the channel that the entire windshield fits into is resealed with urethane should fix the issue.. Trying to reuse the current windshield & rubber seal and using sealer to reinstall it stretches out the rubber seal & will still leak. This leak can get into the electrical controls for safety system overhead controls. Extra care must be taken to remove the windshield as to not damage the roof line in anyway. Vehicle is going back into dealership to fix issue again. Vehicle was resealed with existing windshield and showing signs of leaking on L&R pillars.Read more
