The backup camera on this vehicle is basically useless at night if there are no streetlights around. I don’t know if this is a combination of a poor camera and dim reverse lights or just a bad camera, but I think it’s a safety hazard. I am reporting a safety concern with my 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 related to Hyundai placing remote safety features behind a paid subscription. Hyundai has locked two functions that affect safety: (1) the ability to remotely check the vehicle’s battery state of charge, and (2) the ability to remotely unlock the doors from a phone. These functions previously existed under BlueLink but were removed un
... less the owner pays for the new Connected Services package. 1. Remote battery status Without paying the subscription, I cannot check the vehicle’s battery level while it is charging. If I need to leave the charging area or am charging from home and not directly watching the dashboard, there is no way to verify whether charging completed or stalled. Charging interruptions are common with EVs. This could leave me stranded unexpectedly in unsafe conditions, at night, or in severe weather. This is a safety issue, not a convenience issue. 2. Remote unlock Hyundai also removed the ability to unlock the car from my phone unless I pay for the subscription. This creates a safety hazard if a child accidentally locks themselves in the car with the key fob inside. Without remote unlock, the parent may have to break a window or wait for emergency responders, which creates risk of heat or cold exposure to a child. This problem is reproducible every time I attempt to use the app without a paid subscription. Hyundai has been contacted and has not offered a safety solution except paying the subscription fee. I am asking NHTSA to review whether locking basic safety functions behind a paywall creates a safety defect that could put vehicle occupants at risk.Read more

On July fourth, while driving, the vehicle began to shake and make a rattling noise, shifted into park, and the dashboard lights lit up. The second time, I took it to the Hyundai dealership, which determined that only an oil change was needed, although I had completed regular maintenance on the vehicle. I am reporting a repeated safety-related defect involving exhaust intrusion into the cabin of my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle experienced loss of power, coolant loss, and engine warning indicators, and was serviced twice by Volkswagen Southtowne in Sandy, Utah. First Incident – Vehicle Returned as “Safe to Drive” During the first repair visit, the dealer diagnosed issues involving the
... manifold/exhaust area, head gasket, coolant system, and catalytic converter. After keeping the vehicle for an extended period, the dealership informed me the vehicle was “safe to drive,” although the repair was not fully completed. I relied on this representation. After the vehicle was returned to me, I began experiencing significant physical symptoms only while driving the vehicle, including nausea, dizziness, and vomiting. These symptoms occurred repeatedly during operation and would subside after leaving the vehicle. At the time, I did not understand that these symptoms were caused by exhaust entering the cabin. Second Incident – Defect Confirmed and Additional Repairs Performed Weeks later, the symptoms persisted and I returned the vehicle to the same dealership. At this second visit, the dealer reported coolant leakage and additional gasket failures. They removed the cylinder head, replaced gaskets, and performed additional exhaust-related repairs. I was provided a loaner vehicle during this extended repair. After this second repair, the symptoms while driving stopped. Safety Concern Based on the timing of symptoms, the repair records, and the resolution following the second repair, I believe that exhaust gases were entering the cabin of the vehicle during normal operation for an extended period. This created a significant safety hazard. I was repeatedly assured the vehicle was “safe to drive” when it was not. I unknowingly operated the vehicle while being exposed to exhaust fumes for several months. The condition caused physical illness, impaired my ability.Read more

When the AC system is turned on, the idle increases from 740rpm to 760rpm. It engages the torque converter in the automatic transmission causing the car to move forward on its own. He said it was fine. I have spoke with Toyota Brand Engagement several times and at various levels who all say it functions fine as the idle is within limits. The climate control system on my 2019 Ford Ranger has a recurring failure that prevents the vehicle from properly adjusting temperature or directing air through the vents. The failure causes a constant clicking/snapping noise behind the dashboard, and the blend door does not move when the temperature is changed. This malfunction matches Ford’s published SSM 49264, which identifies a known defect
... in 2019–2020 Rangers built on or before 7/30/2020 and states that the entire HVAC housing assembly must be replaced. This issue creates a safety hazard because the truck cannot reliably defrost the windshield in cold or wet weather. Loss of defrosting capability severely limits visibility and makes safe operation of the vehicle difficult. The issue is reproducible every time the temperature is adjusted. The problem began when the vehicle was still within the original mileage window of the factory warranty, but the dealership did not repair it. Ford has confirmed the malfunction is caused by the blend door system, yet they have refused goodwill coverage for a repair that requires full dash removal and replacement of a known defective part. There were no warning lights, but the clicking noise and loss of temperature control began well before the warranty expired. The vehicle continues to experience the defect, and it poses an ongoing visibility and safety risk. Ford has acknowledged this exact failure mode in writing (SSM 49264), but has not issued a recall or safety campaign.Read more

[XXX] Problem: Multiple tire blowouts causing safety hazards and air-suspension damage Complaint Summary: My 2024 BMW i7 has experienced multiple tire blowouts, including the most recent , two within days of each other (12/8/2025 and 12/10/2025). On 12/8/2025, BMW replaced the right rear tire and advised me that the vehicle was safe to drive. Two days later, the left rear tire suffered the s
... ame sudden failure, requiring another tow. These failures occurred during normal driving and immediately after BMW dealership inspection and clearance. In addition to these recent events, earlier blowouts on this vehicle have already caused damage to the air-suspension system, requiring repairs. This indicates the issue is not normal tire wear but a recurring safety defect involving the vehicle’s weight, load distribution, tire load rating, or compatibility with the i7’s unusually high curb weight. The repeated failures and resulting suspension damage raise concerns about a broader defect in the design, load-bearing capability, or inspection procedures for this model. This vehicle is unsafe to operate, and the recurring blowouts place my family and other motorists at risk. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the BMW i7 has a systemic safety issue related to tire integrity, load capacity, or suspension stress under normal driving conditions. It is unknown what system failed. While coasting to slow for the stopped car in front of me, the car began aggressively accelerating without warning. Adaptive and standard cruise control were both off. Lane keep assist and road departure were also switched off. Due to the slick nature of the road, the acceleration left me traveling far too fast with little space to stop. After sliding to a stop, I
... was within a foot from the car in front of me. This failure very nearly caused an at-fault accident which there was nothing more I could do. Note that this happened roughly 40 mins into a drive, which was otherwise uneventful. No warning lights were present before, during, or after the issue. This car has been having phantom braking issues and power loss issues consistently since March and has spent significant time in Honda's hands for this issue. The vehicle has come to a near stop on the highway from the previous braking issues and has lost power, stranding me in traffic on a highway. It is suspected that the same system failure that caused those issues has come back up again. To date, thousands have been spent on repair "guesses" and tow bills with no end in sight to these safety issues. My 2019 Toyota RAV4 experienced a dangerous electrical and transmission failure that ultimately caused the vehicle to stall while driving and made me lose control. For several weeks before the incident, the vehicle showed subtle hesitation when accelerating but no warning lights. After the car stalled and spun out coming off the Ben Franklin Bridge onto I-76 near downtown Camden, police responded,
... confirmed the vehicle had unexpectedly shut off, and verified there was no crash damage. I later brought the car to the Toyota dealership, where they discovered corrosion on the battery cable, failed ABS sensors, and a weak battery. I paid $668 for a new battery, new cable, and ABS sensor repairs. At that time, the dealership did not inform me of any transmission issues and released the vehicle back to me. I made it only a short distance up the road before realizing the vehicle could not accelerate past 40 mph and was still malfunctioning, so I immediately returned it. The next day, the dealership initially claimed there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, but after I insisted they re-evaluate the car, they then informed me that the transmission was failing and needed replacement. This sequence of electrical instability, combined with the transmission malfunction, ultimately led to the earlier stall where I lost all power steering and braking assist and spun out into the median. The vehicle, diagnostic records, and replaced components are available for inspection. The sudden loss of power and control created a major safety risk to me and other drivers in a high-traffic area.Read more

In the last twelve months, the vehicle has been serviced six times for ongoing issues related to the hybrid system, yet the problems persist. Despite multiple visits to the dealership, the defect remains unresolved. My 2023 Jeep Wrangler has an active hybrid battery recall (68C), which according to NHTSA is an extension of the earlier 95B recall involving risk of fire related to the hybrid batter
... y. Recall 95B was marked “resolved” after my hybrid battery was replaced on 11/20/2025, yet I now have another recall for the same safety-related issue. This indicates that the original defect was not properly resolved and suggests ongoing hybrid system safety risks. The recall repair for 68C is still listed as “no parts available,” leaving me unable to have this safety defect corrected. During this period, the vehicle has stalled, lost power, and displayed repeated warning lights associated with hybrid system failure and recall-related issues. These events have occurred while driving and present a serious safety concern. I have opened a case with Stellantis and have documentation of all service visits and all communication with the manufacturer. Stellantis denied my buyback request without providing written reasons and closed my case. They offered a small discount on a new vehicle that would require rolling over nearly $20,000 in negative equity, which does not resolve the underlying safety defect. They also offered two vague extended warranty options but refused to provide written details, and these do not correct the defect or address the safety risk. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle. I fear the possibility of injury due to the unresolved hybrid system defect, stalling incidents, and the ongoing fire-related recall with no available remedy. Stellantis has failed to correct the defect and has not provided an adequate or safe solution. Requesting assistance as this is an active safety issue involving repeated hybrid system failures and a recall with no remedy.Read more

Formal complaint — outdated Android/Google Built-In security patch level on 2024 Chevy Silverado; potential cybersecurity defect and negligent maintenance by manufacturer. I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a critical cybersecurity and software maintenance defect in my 2024 Chevy Silverado. The vehicle runs Google Built-In / Android Automotive OS with an Android Security Patch Level of
... February 2024 (as displayed under Settings → About → Android version). As of this writing in December 2025, this patch level is nearly two years outdated, with no available over-the-air (OTA) updates and no clear communication from General Motors or Google regarding continued support or end-of-life status. This condition exposes the infotainment and telematics systems to known and documented vulnerabilities, representing both a cybersecurity defect and potential consumer safety. Description of the defect: The infotainment system reports “Android Security Patch Level: February 2024.” Attempts to check for updates return “Your system is up to date.” The system shows a red exclamation mark beside the patch level, indicating a fault condition or known update gap. Neither the dealer nor OnStar/Customer Support can apply an update manually or clarify the support cadence. This leaves the vehicle permanently exposed to Android-level vulnerabilities discovered and patched long after February 2024. Security and regulatory implications: The infotainment system runs a network-connected OS with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, and vehicle bus access. Unpatched Android components are subject to hundreds of known CVEs since February 2024 — including privilege-escalation, RCE (remote code execution), and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi stack vulnerabilities. The U.S. NHTSA Cybersecurity Best Practices for the Safety of Modern Vehicles (2022 update) and ISO/SAE 21434 require that manufacturers maintain timely security updates for all connected vehicle systems.Read more

My back window shattered into a million pieces and the car has been parked under my carport since 4 pm on Monday evening and has not been driven at all since then. Went to walk my dog on Wednesday at around 2:15p noticed glass on the ground and looked and back window was in pieces still attached to the car. I live at least 500 feet off the rode and have no neighbors near my cars.

Formal complaint — persistent, non-disableable Bluetooth transmitter in [2024 Chevy Silverado] / privacy & safety risk; request for remediation and recall assessment I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a safety and privacy defect in the infotainment/telematics system of my vehicle, a The unit runs Google Built-In / Android Automotive OS. This complaint documents technical evidence
... that the vehicle’s Bluetooth radio broadcasts a persistent, non-randomized MAC address and cannot be completely disabled via any user-accessible control. I request immediate remediation, a formal security assessment, and confirmation whether this condition will be remediated by firmware/OTA update or recall. Summary of the issue The infotainment unit’s Bluetooth adapter emits BLE advertisements that expose a static, permanent MAC address i.e ([AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF]) that does not change across power cycles and is visible to passive scanners while the vehicle is parked and otherwise idle. The vehicle provides no persistent user control to turn off the Bluetooth radio; menus do not disable the hardware radio. Attempts to disable Bluetooth via the system settings are ineffective. The static MAC and inability to disable the radio create an ongoing privacy and tracking risk: third parties can uniquely identify and track the vehicle across time and locations by logging the broadcasted identifier. This configuration is inconsistent with current industry cybersecurity & privacy guidance that recommends minimizing exposed identifiers, providing user control to disable wireless interfaces, and implementing randomization of wireless addresses when possible. The static MAC plus non-disableable radio constitutes a persistent, unique identifier broadcast in public spaces. This defeats reasonable efforts by consumers to limit tracking and to control their privacy.Read more

It needed to be replaced again for the FOURTH time. Part 96611-J9500 was replaced—AGAIN. This is a continued safety issue that Hyundai has neglected to address and fix. Spontaneous hor
