Traveling at 55mph on Rt. 264 W. in Virginia Beach, VA the right rear tire "exploded" with no warning whatsoever and sent my vehicle out of control coming very close to impacting vehicles on either side. I regained partial control and got the vehicle onto the shoulder. My family was shaken but o.k. State Police arrived. Upon inspection there was very little left of the tire (I will upload pics). V
... ehicle was brought to "Discount Tire" where close inspection of the remaining tires showed steel belt protruding from the front right tire. I was amazed. The vehicle had recently passed state inspection and was well within wear limits. I paid to have the (2) obviously failed tires replaced and asked Goodyear Customer Service to pay to replace the remaining (2) - all were bought as a set from Walmart. Goodyear Customer Service refused and now I must pay for the work as no one in their right minds would drive around on the remaining (2).. There's a 50/50 chance they would fail as well! It is my understanding these are not their "top of the line tires", but I must ask when it comes to safety what possible difference can that make? We depend on our government to properly test such basic safety related items that can cause death and damage in a moment to any family. I hope the NHTSA will/does thoroughly investigate all Goodyear tires, but especially these sold primarily at Walmart if I understood correctly. This is an incident that simply should not have occurred and even after the fact of TWO of these tires falling apart on the same vehicle, their corporate headquarters refused any responsibility; financial or otherwise.. not even an apology!Read more

A 205/55/R16 tire exploded when I was driving on the freeway at 9:15 am. I had driven less than 3 miles. The tire that exploded had less than 16,000 miles. I didn't run over an object or I would have also punctured my front tire too. At the time of the explosion I didn't know what happened, but heard a loud noise that I thought was from a car next to me. Once both cars moved ahead of me, I realize
... d the loud noise was coming from under my car. I then was able to pull to the side of the freeway. Once I pulled over I saw the tire had exploded. I took photos of the tire and took both parts to the tire shop where my tires are under warranty. I had inspected my tires the prior Monday, two days prior and didn't see an issue with any of the tires. I've never had a tire blowout before. The tire shop threw the tire away even though I asked for a report of the incident to appropriate entities. The tire shop told me the tire was under inflated or that I hit a road hazard but couldn't prove that's what caused the explosion. Also the tire shop did not show me where a road hazard penetrated the tire. In the past if a tire had run over an object this tire shop would show me the object. I have 3 of the same tires on my car which I don't trust because my tire exploded without warning.Read more

A Honda 2019 CR-V EX 2WD was purchased in March of 2019 and came with OE Hankook Kinergy GT 235/60R18 H436 tires. The DOT# 5M3V1BH5018 (One tire) and 5M3V1BH5118 (Three tires). The vehicle was garage kept and most of the mileage driven was within the state of Tennessee. All four tires were rotated every 5,000 miles and balanced every 10,000 miles by the Honda dealership that sold the vehicle. A mu
... lti-point inspection was performed every 5,000 miles that included steering, braking, struts, and suspension components with no issues found. Tire pressure was monitored by both the owner and dealer during routine maintenance. Road noise began after the 12,000-mileage maintenance and could be seen as uneven tire treadwear. At 15,000 miles the dealership performed a four-wheel alignment to correct the problem, but the noise continued and became more pronounced at higher speeds. It became difficult to hold a conversation or listen to the radio without turning up the volume. By 23,000 miles it became apparent that the inside and outside tread on all four tires had become scalloped. The dealership confirmed the diagnosis and recommended new tires. They stated that continuing to drive with the cupped tire tread was not a safety issue. In contrary, most retail tire or automobile repair websites universally agree that driving with scalloped tires is dangerous. The decreased amount of tire tread to road contact causes reduced traction and increased braking distances, on wet driving surfaces and in emergency situations. The dealership service advisor also shared information that Hankook uses substandard material in the manufacturing of their OE tires leading to premature wear and possible failure. How does this tire justify a treadwear rating of 540 and mileage warranty of 70,000 miles when an entire set of four tires became useless and unsafe at 15,000 miles?Read more

Brand new, Volkswagen, ID4, 2021, We were lucky twice that this catastrophic tire failure did not result in an accident. First blow out was on a quiet side road in RI. Second was air leak on the highway that caused me to see a close by dealer about the issue. All 4 tires prematurely wore to the steel belts on the inside of the tire, the left rear sidewall blew out first at 33,675, Balise VW W
... arwick, RI did not recognize that it was a tread issue and 4 weeks later, the other 3 were deemed a road hazard by the Mastria VW Raynham, MA where we were stranded. The right rear leaked air due to the tread wearing thin to the steel belt on the inside of the tire. The right rear and two front were replaced at 37,526 mile for the same thin tread issue. Volkswagen and Bridgestone take no responsibility for this unusual tire wear. There needs to be a warning that these tires are dangerous after 30,000 miles on an ID4. I think as these SUVs get older, more reports will materialize. The tire does not support this type of vehicle due to the weight of the battery. This is a safety issue.Read more

ALL FOUR TIRES DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS 1.On February 10, 2020 we purchased four Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires from Riverside Garage (19 East Ave., Riverside, 60546 708-447-7221 (see attached receipt) 2.On August 5, 2022 the rear/driver’s side tire went flat in Springfield, Illinois during a family visit. We were unable to reinflate the tire. Discount Tire inspected it and found a 12 inc
... h or greater slit and a 1-1/2 inch slit on the inside wall of the tire (see attached photos). The slits revealed white mesh inner membrane. It was unsafe to use, so Discount Tire replaced it. 3.On August 7, 2022, while on route back to Riverside, Illinois from Springfield, Illinois on Interstate 55 we observed a “low tire” light another Assurance tires at rear/passenger side tire. 4.On August 8, 2022 Riverside Garage inspected the rear/passenger tire to find a 1-1/2 inch slit on the inside wall of the tire, which was similarly situated as the other tire. It also revealed an interior mesh membrane similar to the other flat tire. Further inspection of the remaining two tires showed faint “lines” similarly positioned across the inside walls of the remaining front two tires. The tires are preserved at the garage for inspection. 5.On August 10, 2022, the three remaining Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires were replaced with Goodyear Eagle tires. It is very likely that all of these tires were dangerously defective on manufacture and that others are probably in us. This incident occurred about 2 years post purchase, meaning that other who bought similar tires will begin to experience blowouts and accident in the same time span. Please take action to protect others from blowouts on these defective tires.Read more
