My car has 16000 miles and originally came with this exact tire brand. Apparently, because I drive an electric vehicle the tires have sound dampening foam on the inside of them. They are supposed to break down slowly with time however the last four months I have had two incidents where the foam became unglued from the rest of the tire, balled up, and caused a huge amount of shake in the car as I d
... rove at speed 60 mph or higher. It did not affect low speeds. This is a safety hazard. The first time it occurred, I considered an outlier and Michigan did replace the tire. The second time it happened , only a few thousand miles later I asked that the foam be removed from the tire as I am concerned that this is a safety hazard moving forward. Michelin needs to have this tire recalled. I asked the Hyundai dealership if other ionic five drivers with the same tires had come in with the same issues. They said absolutely we see it every day. Why is this tire still on the road. I reached out to Michelin and they Refused to refer me onto anybody to discuss this further. They also refused to pay for the foam removal process. That is why I’ve decided to involve you. Please feel free to contact me at [XXX] to discuss further. I installed four new Goodyear ElectricDrive 2 tires (P 215/50 R17) on my 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV on 05/08/2024 at Discount Tire in Round Rock, TX (Store #TXA 23). The tires were balanced as part of the installation. After six days of normal commuting, on 05/14/2024, the vehicle began experiencing significant vibrations at highway speeds 60 - 70+ mph. As a point of reference, the passenger side he
... adrest was visibly moving back and forth due to the vibration. I took the tire back to Discount Tire and, after removing the tire from the wheel, they discovered that the SoundComfort noise reduction foam inside of the tire had come dislodged and was bunched up inside of the tire. The foam did not appear attached to the inside of the tire in any way. After the foam was removed and the tire remounted, the vibration was no longer present. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The noise reduction foam inside of the tire came loose inside the tire and caused the tire to become out of balance. The tire is currently mounted on the car but with the noise reduction foam removed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Significant vibrations while operating the vehicle could distract the driver or under certain circumstances cause impair the driver's control of the vehicle especially at higher speeds. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, Discount Tire diagnosed the issue by attempting to balance all four wheels, discovering one was out of balance, and then proceeded to remove the tire from the vehicle. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warnings lamps or messages. A significant vibration at highway speeds was the only symptom and began being observed on 5/14/2024 (6 days after installation).Read more

More over, the tire guy advised me to contact the NHTSA or the manufacturer. On top the purchasing price, I spent $60.00 for inspection, the purchasing price was $112.50, from Walmart. In conclusion, I purchased a new tire and replaced it, and costed me to mount it. I did not have a choice, and I kept the bad tire. Continental 235/40/r19 This is what I sent to Consumer Affair website: My personal experience reflects exactly the same as the poor rating of this brand. Tire has separation at 32k miles on the Tesla 3. I first noticed a thumb thumb sound. I ignored but it got worse then the vibration inside cabin started to occur. I pulled the tire off and inspected. My God i have a tire separation with steel
... wire sticking out and a big hump. I got mad after i found out that Tesla wants nothing to do with it (heck they don't even a have no. to call for an expensive car, shame on you Tesla) and Continental does not have a warranty. Spending time searching for another tire to buy i find out it is expensive for EV tire. I was frustrated and angry that i have to deal with a defective tire with no warranty from Tesla and Continental for low miles (plenty of thread left on tire). I decided to call Continental. The experience was horrible with them hung up on me and a run around. They told me to take to Discount tire to have it inspect. Dt agreed tire is defective and expect me to pay $250 with pro rate covered by Continental. I already found the same tire for $225 so i tell D.t take a hike. I called Continental back and [XXX] broke loose. I got a lot of run around, hung up with the rep. then manager and they won't do the tire pro rate more than 30%. I got fed up with lot of cussing I went back to D.Tire and settled with another Continental tire that is cheaper. I was pushing my luck driving with the tire that will blow anytime. The [XXX] Tesla does not have a spare tire on an expensive car (shame on you Tesla). I had no choice to replace a tire out of my pocket of $150 for the same brand as that is the only one with similar thread pattern very reluctantly as I had NO other choice or take a risk driving and NO spare tire. The full type of this tire is Continental ContiProContact P215/55 R18 94H Also DOT is IP5 OF8PAO 5323. Note there are two letter "O". Either one or both of those could be the number 0. I cannot tell the difference on my tire. When I was driving in a parking lot I heard a loud noise and did not know what it was. I did not think to look at my instrumental panel so I drove around a half mile home
... . Then I noticed the TPMs warning and saw that the tire was completely flat. I saw sidewall damage that look like something cut into my side wall or perhaps that was the blowout. It was cut about a half inch or inch long in the outside sidewall of the tire. The tire only had about 821 miles on it. I check the pressure consistently and it always was the proper pressure as specified by the vehicle door jamb. Also my vehicle shows me the exact tire pressure when on the instrument panel. I checked it the morning before the blowout happened and the tire pressures were fine. Also I look at my tire pressure almost every time I drive (about every day) using the tire pressure indication on my instrument panel. I never hit any potholes or any curbs. The tire looked normal and felt fine when I was driving on it (until the blowout of course). Also according to the DOT it was manufactured late 2023 so it does not sound like dry rot. This seems like it could either be a manufacturing defect or installation defect of some sort. A blowout obviously is a safety risk since this could have happened on a busy highway. Luckily I got home safely. When I brought it in to the dealer for repair they thought maybe something hit the tire from the outside. I believe the dealer got rid of the tire so it would not be available for inspection. No warning before the failure occurred.Read more
