I HAVE HAD A 3 MONTH OLD MODEL S. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OWNERS WHO HAVE SIGNIFICANT AND EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR IN THEIR CARS. I HAVE 4,000 MILES IN MY 4 DOOR SEDAN, AND WAS TOLD BY TESLA SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO PLAN ON REPLACING THE TIRES IN THE NEXT 1K MILES, DURING A RECENT SERVICE APPT TO FIX MY MOONROOF LEAK. EXCESSIVE EARLY TIRE WEAR CAN BE A HAZARD TO PEOPLE UNSUSPECTING THIS. I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF EVEN CHECKING TO SEE IF I NEEDED NEW TIRES AT 4K MILES. THE TECHNICIAN SAID HE FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLES SUSPENSION THAT "LACK" OF ROTATION WAS THE ONLY CAUSE. DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCOMFORTABLE AT BOTH LOW AND HIGH SPEED; THEREFORE, I STARTED INVESTIGATING TO TRY TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE. 1ST I FOUND ONE OF THE REAR SHOCKS WAS VERY BOUNCY, THE REAR TIRES WERE NOT STRAIGHT AND BOTH REAR TIRES WERE WEARING ON THE INSIDE. REPLACED BOTH REAR SHOCKS. THAT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THE REAR TIRES WERE STILL NOT STRAIGHT. NEXT I WENT TO MIKE NAUGHTON

THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT I NEEDED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR AN ALIGNMENT AND HAVE THE REAR CAMBERS SHIMMIED SO THAT THE WHEELS WOULD BE STRAIGHT AT A ESTIMATE COST OF $200.00, THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS TO HAVE THIS WORK DONE. LAST NIGHT (10-13-2013), I JACKED THE VEHICLE UP TO LOOK UNDER TO SEE HOW DIFFICULT IT WOULD BE TO PERFORM THE WORK MYSELF. I DECIDED THAT I WOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO FORD AND PAY THEM TO DO THE WORK. I WAS JACKING THE VEHICLE UP TO REMOVE THE JACK STANCE AND BOTH TIRES FELL ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I LOOK UNDER THE VEHICLE TO IDENTIFY WHAT HAPPENED AND FOUND THE AXLE HOUSING BENT/BROKEN IN HALF. IT APPEARS THAT IT HAS BEEN CRACKED/BROKEN FOR SOME TIME BECAUSE THE INITIAL BREAK WAS RUSTY. THE TIRES WERE APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH OUT OF THE FREE REPLACEMENT WARRANTY PERIOD. ON FURTHER EXAMINATION, WE TOOK THE TRAILER TO ANOTHER GOODYEAR DEALER AND THEY NOTED TREAD SEPARATION ON ALL THREE OF THE OTHER TIRES. AGAIN, TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH 50% CREDIT. THE TIRES WERE APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH OUT OF THE FREE REPLACEMENT WARRANTY PERIOD. WE HAD TO PURCHASE 3 NEW TIRES AND SAT ON I95 FROM 5PM TO 9PM BEFORE GETTING BACK ON THE ROAD. THE DAMAGE WAS BAD ENOUGH BUT THE TRAILER SERVICE COMPANY STATED IT WAS INCHES AWAY FROM THE PROPANE TANKS AND WE WERE VERY LUCKY THE TRAILER DID NOT CATCH ON FIRE AND EXPLODE FROM THE ELECTRICAL WIRING TORN APART. WE WERE VERY GLAD OUR GRANDKIDS WHERE AT HOME IN MT. AIRY MARYLAND AND THAT THE ACCIDENT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE WAY TO TAKE THEM HOME. THE FOUR NEW TIRES WERE ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND HAD LESS THAN 3400 MILES ON THEM. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED.
