This is my second report with two different incidents of failure. These failures are connected to the Lippert frame of my fifth wheel trailer. While, traveling in Indiana near Gary, Indiana my leafspring on the rear axle on the driver side gave away, causing the trailer to veer hard to the left. Fortunately, there was no one to my left and I was able to regain control and get to the shoulder. Afte
... r inspecting, I determined that the pin holding the leaf springs together sheared off after going over a bridge expansion joint. The second issue I discovered this spring is that I have two significant cracks in the upper deck frame, causing extreme frame flax. Lippert is refusing to cover the fix under the warranty. Lippert has been very difficult to deal with during this process and I have been forced to use a third-party to fix their poor welds. I have pictures if need be. There are many other frame issues that other people are dealing with. All have the Lippert frames! Someone will be severely injured or killed if Lippert is not held accountable by the federal government.Read more

I was sideswiped by another vehicle which just joined our direction of traffic coming out of a cutout. As soon as I saw the vehicle moving fast from inside the cutout to join our direction and into my lane, I immediately decided to move to the lane next to me. I was at the leftmost lane at the time. Halfway into the lane I just felt the violent impact of the other vehicle hitting us. My wife and I

We were pulled out of the car and taken immediately into an ambulance and Orange Global Hospital, where we stayed for about 2 days. X rays, CT Scan and MRI were taken. There are hairline cracks in the frame / Axle hanger(s), throughout the entire inside floor there are drops / gaps when a level is put down of a minimum of 1/8" - showing symptoms of frame flex / failure. ... ith 3 different vehicles (2019 F250 Diesel, 2022 F450 Dually Diesel, and 2023 F250 Gas). documentation, video proof, Multiple witnesses, and different drivers all with over 7+ Years up to 30+ years' experience have tested this and have come up with the same results. Upgrades were made to both tow vehicle(s), Hitch(es), and trailer as suggested by Grand Design RV. Grand Design has stated after investigation that the axles on this unit were installed 5" out of the normal manufacturing of a Momentum 31G and there is a 1/2" difference between the driver's side front axle hanger and rear passenger side axle hanger. Trailer has been weighed multiple times with various loading procedures to make sure everything was evenly distributed side to side and front to rear. The trailer has not been overloaded yet the leaf springs were flat before upgraded to heavier weights. Tires have shown uneven wear patterns. Hitches have been set up in various positions per manufactures requests without any success. Grand Design has not taken responsibility nor attempted to fix the issues with the unit even with the proof submitted to them. Instead, they have been combative, dismissive, and try to bully their way out of their responsibilities. I've invested my own funds over the course of 3 years to attempt at rectifying the issue with no success. My family will not even travel in the same vehicle as me because they fear for their safety as I do as well as the safety of everyone on the roadway. This, however, does not concern Grand Design as they've unprofessionally stated to me consistently.Read more

I would like to alert you to a "near miss" situation regarding my 2013 Ford Escape Titanium automobile which very nearly resulted in a car rollover while driving at 65 mph on the freeway. My wife was driving our 2013 Escape on the freeway. Suddenly, the left rear lower control arm cross support arm assembly Ford Part No. CV6Z*5500*L broke into two pieces. When this happened, the car immediately
... darted to the right because the left rear tire was no longer pointing straight ahead. Her reaction was to compensate by steering to the left. At that point in time, the car came up on two wheels and very nearly rolled over. After that, the car swerved back and forth until she could stop. It was extremely fortunate that she was in the center lane of a three lane wide freeway when this happened and there were no cars to her immediate right or left. After getting the car stopped she saw that the left rear wheel was clearly pointing in the wrong direction. We had the car towed home and since I generally handle all of my own automotive repairs in my home garage, I jacked the car up and noticed the broken cross support arm assembly. I removed the broken part and examined the failure surfaces. I happen to be a mechanical engineer with 40 years of mechanical design experience and I immediately recognized the classic symptoms of a metal fatigue failure. I have attached a series of photographs documenting the failure. The fracture surface consists of rust along the cracked surface about 2/3 the width of the part and then shinny material where the ultimate failure occurred when the crack propagated across the part on a single load cycle. The vehicle is admittedly 11 years old and it has 177k miles, but it is still in very good condition with very minimal rust. You can see from the photos that the failed part was not the result of rust and other than the fracture surface, the part is generally not rusted. I still have the failed part in my possession.Read more

My car has 84000 miles on it. The car recently over heated, I checked the coolant level, and it was low. I filled it to the required level and the warning went away. 2 weeks later it came back, I brought it to the mechanic and was told that the engine needs to be replaced. That it is recycling exhaust from the engine back through the coolant system and that cylinder 3 is misfiring. I spent over an
... hour on the phone with Ford who repeatedly stiff armed me on any sort of assistance with the issue or information on expected or estimated failure rates for these issues. The car is currently at the mechanic where I have an estimate with a $12,000 price tag on it. To make this worse, in October of last year I was driving down [XXX] and when I went to exit the highway, there was a loud clunk and the car revved up real high before it started to move. This put me and all the drivers exiting this very busy off ramp in danger. At 74,000 miles I needed a new transmission because that loud clunk was me losing actual gears in the transmission. That repair cost right around $10,000 and again, Ford does not care. There were no warning lights with this issue, it just happened and left me in a very precarious predicament at a very busy intersection. The transmission has since been replaced for roughly a $10,000 price tag and now I am looking at another $12,000. All I want is Ford to do what is right. I could have been killed in that intersection or my car could have caught on fire recently with the engine issue. The financial strain of having to do 2 major repairs on a car that is relatively new and only had 74,000 for the transmission and 84,000 for the engine is unbelievable and unacceptable. Through research I feel that this transmission issue should be covered under an extension of the Customer Satisfaction Program #20B27 or #20N07 as the transmission issue fits the descriptions nearly perfectly. Built "Ford Tough" is apparently just a sales pitch. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.SRead more

I took my very well maintained Honda Element into the shop for routine maintenance and a pre-spring/summer driving check. They indicated that the driver's side subframe where it meets the rear trailing arm has a dangerous hole and that I should not drive this car any more. We live in Michigan where snow/salt are factors. This specific area has been known to fail in Elements and CR-V's and there
... was a recall on this specific issue for Honda Elements in Canada and CR-V owners in the US and Canada: "The 2007-2011 Honda CR-V is being recalled because the rear trailing arm can fall off due to excessive corrosion, the NHTSA disclosed Thursday. In some cases, the rear frame may be so corroded that Honda will offer to buy the vehicle back from owners to get the safety hazards off the road." Why have the US Elements not been recalled when this is a known safety hazard and the exact same issue as the CR-V's? I am in numerous online forums of Element owners and have seen photographs where this caused life-threatening issues while people were driving. Thankfully, we caught it before that happened to us, but now my loved daily driver is out of commission for a known safety hazard. No one in our family was harmed, but this could have been life threatening if it had not been discovered. The area has not been inspected by police or insurance. Only by our mechanic who specializes in servicing Hondas, Toyotas and Subarus. There were no warning lamps or other warning signs. It just happened to be discovered during routine inspection/service.Read more
