On 11/24/23 Mercedes Benz had replaced my subframe which was part of a safety recall. When I arrived home after picking up my vehicle, there was a loud bang from under the vehicle. I immediately called the service department and told them about what happened and also complained that the steering wheel was cocked to the left and pulling in that direction. My service advisor John advised me to bring
... it back the next day which I did. They never told me what caused the loud bang, but they did say another front end alignment was done. The vehicle still continued to pull and the steering wheel was still off center. On [XXX] I took my car to Mr. Tire for a tire rotation because the car continued to sway and jolt when going over bumps. It also made a popping noise when making a sharp turn. Then on [XXX] as I was driving, the car pulled or slid to the left. In order to keep from crashing into another vehicle, I pulled the wheel right causing me to run over the medium and almost crashing into a building. I was extremely shook up and in disbelief. The front upper control arms on the vehicle failed at around 50,000 miles. The control arms failed with the same symptoms described in Tesla's service bulletin [XXX] ). They billed me $181.44 for that work despite having a service bulletin for the issue and despite it being a widespread issue with the early failure of those control arms. I was lucky that I had this issue addressed when it only made noise and did not wait for the suspension component to structurally fail, which would have resulted in a crash. I have the invoice and the written communication between myself and Tesla. However, when submitting this incident form on NHTSA's website, the Upload Files section wasn't working in Chrome or Firefox on Windows. I believe the inital diagonisis was incorrect or not up to the mark (the part is available for inspection) from the dearlership as there were no clear indication of what was the root cause. ... ached to the frame. They advised it could detach/break off, and my ability to steer safely to a stop would be affected. I took it to the Honda dealership and they confirmed it was unsafe to drive unless the rust and frame could be repaired. The dealer did not mention this was a common problem or any upcoming recalls for this issue. In 2/2023, I found a body shop that was able to repair the corrosion on the frame and the connection point for the LCA. I paid $1600, and the car passed Maine State Safety Inspection at the same garage that identified the problem. In 5/2023, I received the Honda safety recall referenced above, which states "you may be eligible for reimbursement if you paid for recall repairs out of pocket." I called the 888 # on the recall, received an email from American Honda, and replied to their email with the documents they requested, including the repair invoice. After recontacting American Honda a second time in 8/23, and a third time in 9/23, they advised they did not receive the document in 5/23, and I should resend the repair invoice. I received a call from American Honda on 10/16/2023, during which time they stated I was not eligible for reimbursement. This was due to the fact the repair invoice did not specifically state: “Trailing arm holder kit was replaced”. My case (#XXX) was closed. I read in a Part 574 Safety Recall Report, "Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA." Do I qualify for reimbursement? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACTRead more

Both front control arm outer bushings failed. At 21,000 miles, both bushings were found to be almost completely torn. They were torn around both the inner and outer portions of their respective sleeves. Rubber was found to be heavily worn and appear to be possibly dry rotted as well, with many surface cracks. The rubber was found to be no longer fully adhered to the outer portion of the sleeve. T
... he control arms had a lot of play, both up and down, and left and right, causing the vehicle to drive erratically, especially on wet or uneven roadways. Vehicle also exhibited a lot of body roll. Further, vehicle would slide/skid around the roadway while making turns. The manufacturer, Subaru of America, has failed to respond to several emails. Phone calls have yet to be returned. Original Subaru dealership, World Subaru Tinton Falls, NJ, refused to acknowledge the issue and claimed they were in perfect working order. Customer tried to obtain another service appointment as was denied. Subaru's commonly have bushing failures that both the dealerships and manufacture refuse to acknowledge. Customer was able to finally find a dealership who has confirmed the issue and is currently replacing them.Read more

There is a know defect with the chassis used for several Volvo car models. My car is a Volvo C70, year 2012. My car is affected by this defect. The defect wasn't disclosed to me at time of sale. I only learned about it literally 10 years later when Volvo of Gilbert (dealership) advised me to install a costly part on the rear suspension of my car because of "excessive negative camber". According
... to the Volvo repair department, they've known for years of an internal repair "recommendation" memo issued by Volvo that Volvo actually pays for on other models, but won't pay for on mine, to correct this "negative camber" on the rear of the car. ***** The negative camber causes tire walls to fail early and abnormally wear the internal edges of the tires. I've experienced early tire failure on multiple sets of tires on my Volvo C70 and never knew why. Now I know. **Volvo has always known.** I have to replace all of my tires almost every two years due to the inside edges wearing out, despite faithfully rotating my tires several times a year. My tires have worn down to the belt on the inside edges despite having plenty of good tread left in the middle of the tire itself. About two years ago I had a dangerous blowout on the freeway because of a tire that failed early -- now I know it's because of the negative camber. More recently, two of my tires wore down all the way to the belts despite being less than two years old. ***** Volvo knows about this issue. There is a good paper trail of the issue being documented both by Volvo and their customers, but they failed to warn us of the dangerous car suspension and failed to provide the fix to all of us (while providing the fix to some of their customers). ***** Please listen to this 2-minute recording with the Volvo technician (Judd) who disclosed the known defect to me: [XXX] ***** This needs to be rectified for all of us with the faulty chassis'. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

I am writing a complaint in reference to Safety Code Recall : 42J5 April 10, 2019. I bought my vehicle at Shearer VW in South Burlington VT on June 1, 2019. When I bought my vehicle I wasn't informed of any Recalls. I took my vehicle to Montpelier Volkswagen to get an oil change on Dec. 22, 2023 and was informed that I had a broken rear axle coil spring and bushings that needed to be replaced
... . I was given an estimate and appointment for Jan. 12, 2024. In talking with my local mechanic to try to get an earlier repair (both him and Montpelier VW tell me that my car is a safety hazard with these problems.) my local mechanic found this safety recall and advised me to see if my vehicle was ever checked for defects. My vehicle year, make and model are listed in this recall. I have talked to VW Customer Care and Shearer VW where I bought my car and neither can answer my questions. Shearer VW did not know such a recall ever existed. My questions are: Where was my vehicle when this recall came out? Was my car on the list for repair because of the problem stated in the recall 42J5? Was my car checked for this safety recall? If it was checked, did parts get replaced or not? I think this was a serious recall and for VW to have no knowledge of this recall really bothers me. How can I get questions answered? My coil spring has broken and it does make me wonder if it had anything to do with a defect in materials or problems in the spring production process? Maybe not but I want answers. I have owned many vehicles and never had coil springs and bushings go like this . I do have 82,00 miles on my car now but other vehicles lasted through 100,000 miles + without any problems with this. I have now spoken to numerous individuals who have had the same kind of issues with their VW's. VW is offering me nothing but a big bill for repairs. And I am driving a very UNSAFE vehicle. Can you please help me get answers ? I think all VW dealerships should know about recallRead more
