I own a 2021 VW Atlas. My daughter owns a 2020 VW Atlas. Both vehicles have had a nonfunctioning hood latch. What this means is you cannot under any circumstances open your hood. So, if you need to do any of the multitude of under hood services you cannot. I had to wait weeks for my VW dealer to get it in to make the repair. After speaking with my service advisor at my VW dealership, it turns
... out this is a frequent problem for VW Atlas owners. A casual search online shows many incidents of the hood latch system failures. This should most certainly be a recall, fully covered by VW. This occurrence does not appear to be random or unusual, so it is clearly a (part or component) design flaw.Read more

I was driving along I-20/59 Northbound approaching Bessemer, Al near or between mile marker 102-104. Suddenly I heard a “pop” sound coming from behind me and noticed in my rear view mirror the rear windshield had a small hole in it. I had just merged into the far left passing lane when this occurred and then proceeded to merge to exit onto Exit 104 (McAshan Dr./ McCalla). As I continued to dri

Once I exited, I parked at the Flying J truck stop and exited the vehicle to further assess. I called my parents and then a Bessemer Police officer to file a report. I’m not certain if something hit my windshield, if this is the result of a manufacturing malfunction, or other unknown occurrence due to external factors.Read more

Our rig started having problems leveling. The unit made loud popping noises that sounded like it was coming from behind and below the driver seat. Our local tech noticed that there were incomplete or cracked welds in the frame. We notified Forest River of the concerns and they insisted that the rig was safe. All other professional opinions obtained stated that it was not safe and needed to be ad

They stated that they were not going to do anything with the welds. We are very concerned that this could cause catastrophic failure and kill someone. Our rig will remain at Forest River as we are not willing to accept this response. I have included photos of the concerns. Their electrical system is not good either. I am submitting this complaint regarding a manufacturing defect, specifically premature paint delamination of the exterior, factory-applied, Pearl White paint. On April 8, 2026, I returned to my brand-new 2025 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited (purchased as a new ccar on February 10th 2026)_after being away from March 31 to April 6, 2026 (approximately 7 days of normal parking). The vehicle was completely dead — the 12V auxiliary battery had fully discharged. The car remained fully locked. The hood release lever and the 12V battery reset button are both
... located inside the cabin and were therefore inaccessible. Following the instructions in the owner’s manual, three adults attempted to remove the plastic cover over the mechanical keyhole on the driver’s door handle. None of us could pry or slide the cover off. Hyundai Roadside Assistance dispatched a locksmith. The locksmith had to use an air-inflation wedge tool to force the door open. Once inside, he pressed the interior 12V reset button and the vehicle then operated normally. This incident demonstrates a complete failure mode: the 12V system can die after only a short period of inactivity, and the mechanical emergency-access design makes it extremely difficult (or impossible for multiple people) to enter the vehicle without professional forced entry or risk of damage. The combination left me stranded with no practical way to regain access to my new car. I believe this is a safety-related defect because it creates an unreasonable risk of the driver being unable to enter or operate the vehicle after normal parking, potentially in emergency or critical situations. Hyundai has issued Service Campaign TEBA / TSB 25-01-076H for battery drain on 2025 Sonata Hybrids, but it does not address the mechanical key-cover access failure that turned the drain into a total lockout. It is also not clear the the TEBA is a complete solution to the battery drain problem.Read more

Incident date: Apr 22, 2026
I am submitting a defect complaint regarding the paint on my vehicle, which has been progressively deteriorating. The issue begins as small bubbles in the paint, which eventually lead to peeling and complete paint loss in affected areas. This condition is currently present on the trunk, roof, and rear sides of the vehicle, and early signs are now appearing on the hood. This defect is more than co
... smetic. As the paint peels, it exposes the underlying metal panels to environmental elements, increasing the risk of corrosion and rust. Over time, this can compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. Additionally, significant peeling—particularly on surfaces like the roof or hood—can create glare or release debris, posing a potential safety hazard and distraction to both myself and surrounding drivers. I initially brought this issue to a Kia dealership, where the manager advised me to contact Kia Customer Affairs. Upon doing so, I was informed that the issue falls outside the warranty timeframe. However, after speaking with other Kia owners experiencing similar problems—especially with the same paint color—it appears this may be a widespread manufacturing defect rather than normal wear and tear. Furthermore, a professional paint specialist evaluated the condition and indicated that the bubbling and peeling are consistent with poor paint adhesion or a defective clear coat/mid-coat application during manufacturing.Read more

The frame of my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has rusted through to the point of failing Maine state safety inspection at only 41,000 miles. A licensed Maine inspection station identified structural frame corrosion and determined the vehicle is unsafe to operate. A Chevrolet dealer confirmed the frame rust and stated the truck must have rusted sections cut out and welded to be made roadworthy. The
... vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: A rusted-through frame on a pickup truck is a serious structural defect. Frame failure while driving could cause loss of vehicle control, separation of suspension or drivetrain components, or catastrophic structural collapse, particularly at highway speeds or under load. The vehicle is currently unregisterable in Maine due to this safety failure. The failure has been confirmed by both an independent licensed inspection station and by a Chevrolet dealership service department. This failure is consistent with a known manufacturing defect documented in GM Technical Service Bulletin 19-NA-255, which acknowledges that the wax coating applied to the frames of 2011–2024 Silverado and Sierra trucks was improperly applied by a third-party frame supplier, causing the coating to peel and exposing bare steel to premature corrosion. GM has issued this TSB but has not issued a recall, and Chevrolet dealers are not consistently performing the repair. I contacted GM Customer Assistance to request goodwill repair and was refused; the representative also declined to open a case. There were no warning lamps or dashboard messages prior to discovery, as frame corrosion is not monitored by vehicle systems. The defect was identified visually during state safety inspection. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this defect pattern and consider a recall, as was ultimately ordered for the similar frame corrosion defect on Toyota Tacoma trucks.Read more

The front lateral links, compliance links, and stabilizer bar link on my 2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range failed and required replacement in January 2026. Prior to failure, abnormal creaking and clunking noise from the front suspension began appearing weeks before the repair — no warning lights illuminated at any point. The failed components were replaced by a Tesla-certified Service Center and are
... no longer available for inspection. The failure was confirmed and repaired solely by the Tesla Service Center; no police, insurance representatives, or other parties inspected the vehicle. I was charged out of pocket for this repair. The lateral link separation risk directly endangers vehicle safety — if a fastener loosens sufficiently, the lateral link can detach from the subframe, causing sudden wheel misalignment and loss of steering control, which could result in a crash at any speed. Tesla issued recall 23V-235 (NHTSA campaign 23V235000) in March 2023 for this exact condition on 2018-2019 Model 3 vehicles. Previous recall repair on rear spoiler falling off did not work and it is falling off again. Dealer and manufacturer will not re-repair the manufacturers defect nor their work, leaving the hazard unaddressed. Sees below. ... re the rear spoiler falls off due to a manufacturers design defect and potentially can cause a serious accident, injury or even a fatality at highway speeds. The vehicle was previously fixed under recall, but that fix failed. VIN: [XXX] I have been advised by the owner/manager of Land Rover of the Treasure Coast that it is more important that they get reimbursed prior to fixing the defect, despite the safety of others on the road. This needs to be investigated. My concerns are: 1. Did Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) hoodwink NHTSA into a cheap, non-lasting fix just to satisfy the liability and recall requirement? If so, NHTSA should reissue another recall to recheck the previous recall to verify the fix was adequate and either do it again or develop another solution, bringing those affected vehicles in again for additional work. This is especially true since JD Power and other reputable car statistical reviews consistently rate this brand towards the bottom of reliability and repair costs. This historical point demonstrates why the NHTSA should not trust JLR. 2. How important is public safety? If a safety recall was important enough to be issued in the first place, how is it that a follow up repair for the same recall isn’t addressed? Why isn’t there a readily available avenue for reporting this shortcoming on the NHTSA website. Can anyone explain how if a safety recall campaign was important enough to be issued in the first place, why is it not if the same issue fails again, or if the approved resolution was inadequate? I am submitting a formal safety complaint regarding a failure of the power tailgate system on my 2023 Honda Odyssey. The issue involves water intrusion into the liftgate control system, which has resulted in corrosion and subsequent failure of the power tailgate. This malfunction presents both a safety concern and a significant reliability issue, particularly for a vehicle of this age and mileage
... . What is most concerning is that this does not appear to be an isolated incident. There is a documented history of similar failures in Honda Odyssey vehicles, including prior class action litigation related to tailgate and electrical system defects. Despite this, the issue does not appear to have been adequately addressed or corrected in newer models, including the 2023 version. My vehicle has approximately 30,500 miles and is only slightly outside of the warranty period. I was explicitly assured at the time of purchase that the vehicle was reliable and that the manufacturer would stand behind it. However, I have since been informed that this repair will not be covered, despite the apparent design flaw and known history of the issue. A power tailgate failure is not merely an inconvenience—it can pose safety risks, especially when transporting passengers, children, or cargo. A malfunctioning liftgate can fail to open or close properly, potentially causing injury or limiting access in urgent situations. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter further, as it appears to be part of a broader pattern affecting Honda Odyssey vehicles. Consumers should not be responsible for costly repairs stemming from known defects that have not been properly resolved. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. The vehicle’s instrument cluster appears to be a non-original unit that may not be correct for the model year. The cluster is responsible for displaying the odometer and communicating with other vehicle systems. After purchase, I observed that diagnostic scan tools could not consistently access or communicate with multiple modules, and an experienced mechanic indicated the instrument cluster may
... be incompatible with the vehicle’s configuration. Because the odometer reading is displayed through this component, there is concern that the mileage may not be independently verifiable. The vehicle otherwise operates, but diagnostic communication inconsistencies raise questions about the reliability of system-level data. Additionally, there does not appear to be any service documentation indicating that the instrument cluster or odometer system was replaced, repaired, or recalibrated. This creates uncertainty regarding how the current mileage reading was established. The inability to fully verify mileage and system data may affect maintenance accuracy, resale valuation, and overall confidence in vehicle information.Read more

The power tailgate control unit (part #74970-THR-A12) failed on my 2023 Honda Odyssey at approximately 46,000 miles and 3 years of age. The tailgate stopped functioning entirely. Upon removing the interior rear trim panels to diagnose, I discovered the failure was caused by water intrusion into the rear body of the vehicle. Behind the interior panels I found: significant rust on interior sheet met
... al, green corrosion coating the power tailgate control unit, dried water stains showing pooled standing water that had evaporated over time, and clear evidence of repeated slow water exposure over an extended period — not a single incident. The vehicle has no rear windows that open and no exterior damage that would explain the water source. The symptoms and damage pattern match the class action Dubrosky v. American Honda Motor Co., [XXX] , which alleges defective polyurethane rear body seam sealant in 2018-2021 Honda Odysseys allowing water to leak into the rear driver's side panel and destroy the power tailgate control module. My 2023 exhibits identical symptoms, raising the question whether the same defect extends to later model years. SAFETY RISK: The class action documents that this defect has caused tailgates to open or close unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion, fail to latch, short-circuit, and in some cases cause fires. Items in the cargo area can fall out during driving, creating road hazards for other vehicles. My tailgate failed completely; I consider myself fortunate it failed closed rather than opening in motion. The damaged components are available for inspection. I see a lot of lawsuits coming your way for negligence in taking responsibility for the rightful recall that needs to happen.Read more

The steel fuel tank shield and mounting cradle assembly on my Land Rover Range Rover (L405) is experiencing catastrophic structural failure due to excessive corrosion. This appears to be a result of galvanic corrosion between the steel cradle and the aluminum chassis components. The corrosion has caused the metal straps and support brackets to rot through completely, compromising the physical sec
... urity of the fuel tank. This poses an unreasonable safety risk, as the fuel tank is no longer properly supported and is at risk of detaching from the vehicle while in motion. Furthermore, the jagged, rusted edges of the failing shield are in direct contact with the fuel tank, creating a potential puncture hazard and subsequent fire risk. This is a known structural defect within the L405 community, often resulting in immediate vehicle grounding during safety inspections due to the risk of fuel system detachment.Read more

We have repeatedly reported to both the manufacturer and the dealership that there are multiple screws and staples protruding throughout the RV, creating an ongoing safety hazard. These issues were present from the time of purchase and have been documented during prior service visits. The RV has been returned to the dealership numerous rimes for repairs and has been out of service for a significan
... t portion of our ownership since purchasing it in summer of 2025. On April 11, 2026, during only our second night using the RV, I was walking from the main sitting area down the stairs toward the kitchen/bedroom area when my sock became caught on a protruding screw sticking out of the stair trim/flooring strip. This caused me to lose my balance and fall down the stairs. I landed forcefully on my hands and knees, resulting in pain and visible bruising to my knees and feet, and required medical evaluation. This incident was directly caused by a known and previously reported defect that had not been properly corrected. Given that: these hazards were previously reported/documented, the dealer & manufacturer was aware of the risk, they both knew that I have mobility issues affecting my balance/walking and a family with young children are using it, the defects are widespread throughout the RV, and the condition has now resulted in a personal injury. This represents a ongoing to both myself and my children. The vehicle remains unsafe for normal use. Due to the repeated nature of these defects, prior repair attempts, and now the resulting injury. I am requesting that the manufacturer take appropriate action to ensure safety. This includes a full evaluation of the vehicle and consideration of removal from service, replacement or repurchase if the defects cannot be permanently corrected. I am also requesting that this issue be reviewed for potential broader safety implications.Read more

The passenger door of the vehicle is stuck and unable to open. It is currently in the body shop as they will need to cut into the door to fix the issue. It has gotten stuck previously but has been able to be opened, this time it will not open know matter how much effort is put in. I believe this is a major safety issue, as you will not be able to get out if an accident or incident occurs

Driver's side power sliding door stopped latching and alarms, but doesn't hinder the vehicle from moving. This is an obvious safety risk, especially when our kids sit in the back next to that door. Evidence indicates that this was a known issue for the previous years of this vehicle, but the recall didn't include 2019 models, even though the issue looks to be the same.
