Purchased a used 2022 Audi E-Tron GT with an open NHTSA safety recall for high-voltage battery fire risk (Recall 24V726 / Audi 931A). The recall remedy had not been performed at time of purchase. The selling dealer completed a pre-delivery inspection two weeks prior to sale with full knowledge of the open recall. Within 7 weeks of purchase, the vehicle entered limited performance mode (turtle mode
... ) while driving and had to be towed. A high-voltage coolant pump was diagnosed faulty and replaced. Days later, the vehicle powered down completely while driving. Fault codes indicated an implausible signal from the HV battery controller. The battery management controller (J840) was replaced. After replacement, additional faults were found. The HV battery switch box (SX6) was also diagnosed faulty and replaced. The vehicle was out of service approximately 18 days for this event alone. Within 11 months of purchase, the vehicle developed water intrusion in the trunk area traced to a faulty spoiler motor sealing surface. This caused corrosion to the center tail lamp connector, electrical shorts to all three tail lamps, and required repair of six wiring harness connections. A body electrical wiring repair was also documented in service history prior to purchase, suggesting a pre-existing sealing defect. Total: 9 dealer visits and 50+ days out of service in under 14 months. All repairs performed under manufacturer warranty. The open safety recall was not completed until 8 months after purchase.Read more

While driving at highway speeds on the interstate, the B-pillar exterior trim suddenly detached from the vehicle. The trim remained tethered only by the keypad wiring, causing it to flail in the wind and create an immediate road hazard. Simultaneously, the vehicle’s instrument cluster triggered a "Liftgate Open" warning, despite the liftgate being secure. I was forced to make an emergency pull-o
... ver onto the shoulder of the interstate—a dangerous situation—to prevent the trim from completely detaching and striking other vehicles. Upon reaching my destination, the vehicle suffered a significant electrical short. The interior lights remained on indefinitely due to the false "liftgate open" sensor reading, and the door keypad became completely inoperable. To prevent a total battery drain and potential fire risk from the short, I had to manually disconnect the battery. The dealership confirmed the failure but stated that current B-pillar recalls (such as Recall 25S53) currently only apply to 2016–2017 models, despite my 2019 model using the same defective clips and adhesive. This failure is identical in nature to Recall 24S02 (A-pillar detachment). The detachment of this trim is a documented projectile hazard. Furthermore, the resulting electrical short in the door harness has compromised the integrity of the vehicle’s sensor system. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the expansion of the B-pillar recall to include the 2019 model year to prevent further highway incidents.Read more

The factory white paint on my 2014 Toyota Corolla has been peeling and delaminating in large sheets down to the primer and bare metal. This appears to be a paint adhesion failure, not normal wear or surface chipping. The vehicle has not been in any accidents, repainted, or subjected to improper care. The problem developed gradually and has continued to worsen over time. Large sections of paint det
... ach from body panels such as the hood, roof, trunk, and sides. Paint has come off while driving and during routine car washing. This condition presents a safety concern because pieces of paint can separate at driving speeds and become road debris, which could strike other vehicles or create hazards for nearby drivers. In addition, exposed metal body panels are vulnerable to corrosion, which may affect the long‑term safety and integrity of the vehicle. No warning lights or messages were present prior to the paint failure. A Toyota dealership visually confirmed the peeling paint and indicated this issue has been observed on other Toyota vehicles with white paint. No repair was offered without full repainting at the owner’s expense. The affected areas are visible and available for inspection upon request.Read more

My 2020 Tesla Model X (VIN: [XXX] , approx. 121,000 miles) experienced a dangerous defect with the automatic front passenger door opening with excessive and uncontrolled force. I noticed this issue within the past three months. The vehicle's front doors are fully automated — the driver and passengers have no manual control over the force at which the door opens. Because of this, a person or obje
... ct standing near the vehicle could be struck without warning and without any ability to stop or slow the door. The door was opening with such excessive force that it nearly struck a bystander on at least one occasion. This posed a clear and immediate safety hazard to anyone standing near the vehicle. When I brought the vehicle to Tesla Service, their own technician documented the issue in the repair notes as a "safety concern." The technician confirmed the cause was a defective door drive unit and a corroded connector in the wiring harness. Tesla replaced the right front door drive unit and the associated wiring harness. Tesla charged me over $1,000 to repair this defect, despite the fact that their own technician's notes explicitly identify this as a safety concern — not normal wear. I believe this is a manufacturing defect that should be covered under a safety recall or goodwill reimbursement, and I am reporting it here so that NHTSA can investigate whether other Tesla Model X vehicles share this defect. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and determine whether a safety recall is warranted for this component. While traveling at highway speed, the hood-mounted air vent (factory-installed component) on my 2022 GMC Sierra 3500 HD suddenly detached from the vehicle without warning. Upon separation, the vent was propelled backward, striking both the hood and the windshield. The incident occurred during normal driving conditions, with no prior indication of looseness, damage, or defect in the component. The
... force of the detachment caused damage to the hood and posed a significant safety risk, as the debris impacted the driver’s line of sight and could have resulted in loss of control or injury. There were no external factors (such as collision or road debris) that contributed to the failure. This appears to be a failure of the factory-installed component and its mounting system. Safety Concern: This type of failure presents a serious hazard not only to the vehicle occupants but also to other motorists. A detached component at highway speed could strike nearby vehicles, cause sudden driver distraction, or lead to more severe accidents.Read more

Driving down Interstate 65 just south of Bay Minette Alabama and doing approximately 70MPH, there was a total failure of the sunroof. This happened where crazing started and then a catastrophic failure of the glass, blowing out the sunroof. This happened in the space of about 30 seconds. It appears to be the exact circumstance outlined in NHTSA Recall #24V874000. Shards of glass entered the cabi

No police report was filed. The car was previously inspected by Mercedes under the recall and we were told that the glass was fine and MB closed the recall on this particular VIN. This is a post inspection failure. Mercedes have so far, refused to honor any type of recall work to replace the roof. At this time, I have opened a case with MB USA and await an outcome.Read more

The vehicle will randomly shut off while driving. A message will appear stating "Check the Starting System" Attempts to restart the engine are unsuccessful. The first time it happened, I was turning a corner at a rather dangerous intersection and the vehicle stalled. It took about three attempt
... s before the engine would remain running. When the engine would stall the dash would go dark and the engine would not remain running this happened about a month ago in hot weather. It occurred again on April 25th, 2026 way worse this time. The temperature in the area reached 91 Degrees Fahrenheit. My vehicle was sitting outside in the heat for at least 5 hours, same issue, The vehicle would then proceed to stall in the middle of the freeway, I was able to coast to the breakdown lane where the vehicle would remain unable to start and the message "Check Starter System" would display. Looking on NHTSA webpage before filing a complaint, it seems that this is a rather common issue. VW had a recall for other models (Campaign 28H7) for models such as the Jetta, Golf and other like models. This is a really dangerous issue and could end up getting someone seriously injured or worse killed in a collision if my vehicle stalls like this. The vehicle is scheduled for a service appointment in the near future (Local VW dealer is at least 2 weeks out before they can even look at my vehicle) After viewing this information, I can't help but believe it is possible the 28H7 recall is affecting more models than anticipated.Read more

... Defect: Professional Inspection: I presented the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership. After a physical inspection and photographic documentation, the dealer determined the failure was a manufacturer defect. They verified the condition of the mounting points and proactively ordered the replacement part under warranty. Arbitrary Denial: A Honda District Manager denied the claim via email without ever physically inspecting the vehicle. The denial cited "probable outside influence" but provided no engineering report, inspection notes, or factual evidence to support this conclusion. Legal Presumption: Under the California Song-Beverly Act and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the burden is on the manufacturer to prove misuse or "outside influence" for a failure occurring at 1,227 miles. A factory-installed component detaching at this mileage under normal use is a "nonconformity" to the express warranty as a matter of law. Attempts to Resolve: I opened a case with American Honda (Case #XXX). Despite the dealer’s initial findings and my documentation of the failed mounting points, Honda has refused to honor the 3-Year/36,000-Mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Subject: BBB Auto Line Claim – Water Intrusion and Sunroof/Moonroof Motor Damage Related to Recall To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this written statement as supporting explanation to claim # XXX) with regarding my 2018 Ford Explorer Sport (VIN: [XXX] ) and issues related to a known exterior trim defect that allows water intrusion into the vehicle. Ford has issued recalls and service cam
... paigns related to exterior trim components on the 2018 Ford Explorer, including A-pillar and roof rail trim that may become loose or improperly sealed. These components can allow water to enter the vehicle structure. As a result of this defect, my vehicle has experienced water intrusion that has affected the sunroof/moonroof system, including the motors and associated components. The presence of water in this area has caused malfunction of the sunroof/moonroof and track operation and has created the potential for further electrical damage. The condition appears to be directly related to the trim defect that Ford has acknowledged through safety recall campaigns affecting the 2018 Ford Explorer. Despite this known issue, the damage to the sunroof/moonroof components has not been fully addressed. I am requesting that Ford Motor Company: 1.Acknowledge that the trim defect allowing water intrusion contributed to the damage of the sunroof/moonroof and tracking system. 2.Cover the cost of diagnosing and repairing any damaged sunroof/moonroof motors and related components. 3.Ensure that all recall-related trim repairs are properly completed to prevent further water intrusion. This claim is being filed because the defect originates from a manufacturing issue that has been the subject of recalls affecting this model. Was removing a tractor from the trailer, while backing down the ramp, the welds on the ramp failed suddenly, causing the ramp to drop to the ground, while the tractor was still partly in the trailer. ... quality and number. Most of the welds had insufficient penetration, and there was minimal stitch welds across the width of the frame. The weight of the tractor was approximately 2000lbs. There was no ramp load rating either posted on the trailer or in the literature provided. The salesman said it was around 2500lbs, and a call to the factory confirmed that. Standard engineering principles would expect to have a factor of safety of at least 1.5x rating to prevent failure at rated conditions. Subsequent check on search engines indicate this may be a common occurrence in recent model Land Rover SUVs. I ran a VIN check for recalls on NHTSA and did not find one open for the 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport, though the sa

I am writing to complain about Recall 24S02. The A-Pillar Trim has become loose on my car and the rubber mold underneath it now is loose and flaps aggressively in the wind creating damage to my windshield and driver side front window. I am afraid the whole piece will come off at any moment and cause a road hazard. I have called multiple dealers in my area over the past two years and were told tha
... t the parts for this recall is on "universal backorder. One dealer told me in 2025 verbatim, I'd "...have a better chance of seeing Jesus come back than to get that part fixed." I have tried getting in touch with corporate but have had not luck either. I am not sure what to do.Read more

The factory-applied clearcoat on my 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe is failing and delaminating. The clearcoat is peeling away from the base coat in sheets, exposing the underlying paint to the elements. This deterioration occurred without any external damage, collision repair, or environmental abuse. The vehicle has 76,000 miles and has been regularly washed and maintained throughout ownership. The affected
... areas include roof and door panels. The failure began as clouding and hazing of the clearcoat and has progressed to active peeling and flaking. This issue appears to be a widespread manufacturing defect. Multiple class action lawsuits have been filed against General Motors alleging defective paint and clearcoat application on 2015–2020 full-size SUVs produced at the Arlington Assembly Plant [XXX] et al. v. General Motors LLC, Case No. [XXX], and [XXX] et al. v. General Motors LLC). Thousands of owners of Tahoes, Suburbans, Yukons, and Escalades from these model years have reported identical clearcoat failure. The alleged root cause is improper bonding between the clearcoat and base coat during the factory paint process. Repair estimates for a full repaint range from $3,600 to over $10,000. General Motors has not issued a recall or technical service bulletin to address this known defect. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this matter and compel General Motors to issue a recall covering the cost of repair for all affected vehicles. Power tailgate problems caused by water leaking through body seams. A visible gap in the rear hatch allows water to flow into the vehicle and shorts out control module. This has ruined my control module, caused mold and I noticed a burning smell.
