1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?
The issue pertains to a water leak in the rear liftgate area and/or water accumulation in the spare tire area, potentially accompanied by a lack of audio functionality in my 2020 Ford Explore ST as outlined in TSB 24-2044 (NHTSA ID: 102514). The affected component is the rear liftgate structure
... and associated seals, which allow water ingress, particularly noticeable after car washes or rainfall. The entire sound system to include any collision and impact warnings have failed to chime. 2.
The water leak in the rear liftgate and spare tire area poses potential safety risks. Accumulated water can damage electrical components, such as wiring or audio systems, which may lead to malfunctions in critical vehicle systems. For example, water ingress could affect rear lighting, sensors, or other electronic modules, potentially compromising visibility or functionality during operation. Additionally, water accumulation may contribute to corrosion or mold growth, posing long-term structural or health risks for occupants. These issues could reduce vehicle reliability and increase the risk of accidents, especially in adverse weather conditions. 3.The issue has been acknowledged by Ford in TSB 24-2044, which provides a service procedure to identify and address the leak path. The Bill Currie Ford dealership in Tampa, FL has inspected my vehicle on several occasions, recently July 15, 2025 and confirmed water leakage in the rear liftgate area consistent with TSB 24-2044.The dealer will not repair unless I pay over $2200 for the repair, which I refuse for a manufacture defect. 4. To date, the vehicle has not been inspected by the police or insurance representatives, but the issue align with the TSB report. 5. Water observed in the spare tire & tailgate area every time since purchase. A loss of audio back in July 2023 and numerous occasions since complete failure as of January 3 2024Read more

The panoramic sunroof on my 2020 Toyota Camry XSE failed to close on two separate occasions. The most recent incident occurred about three months ago. After opening the sunroof, the glass panel would not close, leaving the vehicle fully exposed during heavy rain. I had to cover the opening with plastic and tape while standing in the rain, which caused water to enter the vehicle and led to illness
... from exposure. This failure poses safety risks, including: Driver distraction if the failure occurs while driving. Possible water damage to electrical components, potentially affecting vehicle operation. Reduced visibility in heavy rain. Security risks if the vehicle cannot be secured. Online research and discussions with other owners revealed that this problem appears to be relatively common with Toyota Camry models equipped with a panoramic roof. My initial repair estimate was approximately $12,000, which is unreasonable given the vehicle’s value. I ultimately had the sunroof permanently sealed shut at my own expense. I have video evidence and documentation from both incidents, including an earlier occurrence on August 29, 2020, which was reported to a Toyota dealer but dismissed at the time. I believe this should be investigated as a potential recall.Read more

The issue involves ongoing water intrusion through the panoramic sunroof, front power windows, and windshield seals. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This recurring leak has caused extensive interior water damage, including visible mold growth in the carpet on multiple occasions. This mold presents serious health risks to both me and my passengers, especially my sister, who is
... undergoing cancer treatment and has a severely compromised immune system. Water pooling beneath the carpet also threatens critical electrical systems located in the floor area, including the Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519), CAN/LIN bus wiring, door control harnesses, and footwell circuits. Corrosion or shorting in these systems could lead to unpredictable failures in safety-critical functions, even if not immediately apparent. Although Volkswagen dealerships have cleaned the sunroof drains as part of routine service packages, no formal diagnosis or confirmation of the leak’s source has been made. Independent mechanics have confirmed clogged drains and flushed debris to restore water flow. In 2019, I replaced the windshield at my mechanic’s recommendation because the interior glass was frequently soaked with morning condensation. Despite these measures, the sunroof continues to leak whenever it rains. No warning lamps or dashboard messages have ever appeared related to this issue. The first visible symptom occurred several years ago—possibly as early as 2019—when water began leaking from the passenger-side sun visor and headliner immediately after a car wash. Given the persistent nature of the leak, the associated mold hazard, and the risk to vehicle electronics and occupant safety, I believe this defect warrants manufacturer accountability and recall consideration rather than a temporary repair.Read more

Discovered water underneath passenger footwell carpet, causing a musty and mildewy smell. Many reports of similar discoveries online prompted the initial search. Safety concern is mold growth and rust. Dealer was unable to replicate issue after two attempts (ran through car wash, hose over windshield, ran A/C for extended period, checked AC condensate drainage). Dealer dried up water and carpet a
... nd told owner to monitor. Owner pulled up carpet to do own investigation after the second failed attempt by the dealer. Confirmed dry before starting investigation on warm sunny day (no rain). Owner found leak in passenger footwell underneath black access plate that only appeared with A/C usage AND during/after driving, not while car was stationary. Owner brought vehicle back to dealer. Dealer removed black access plate and confirmed leak was coming from a compromised body seam weld. Dealer repaired the failed body seam and no water intrusion has been seen by owner since repair was completed. Owner still has concerns about underlying cause of where water was coming from - theory is that condensation is forming ON the the A/C lines and is pooling somewhere in the body then sloshing around while the car is moving, causing further potential for water related issues, including rust.Read more

On [XXX], my wife and I were driving northbound on [XXX] in Georgia, pulling our Jayco Feather Micro 166FBS travel trailer. It was early afternoon on a sunny day with moderately heavy traffic; we were traveling in the outside lane at approximately 65 mph. We were approximately 40 miles south of the South Carolina border when a car, then a semi, in quick order, waved us over. We did not feel or he
... ar anything amiss on the trailer. We pulled over as quickly as possible and saw that panels of the undercarriage of the travel trailer were dragging on the ground. Further examination revealed that the built-in 50 gallon fresh water tank was missing and the plumbing and electrical lines to the rig were severed. After failing to obtain road service after several hours, I crawled under the trailer and tied up what loose ends were available so I could cautiously drive to a Campers World Service Center in Ridgeland, SC, 46 miles distant. The trailer has been under repair since that time and the estimate is that it will be complete by mid-August with a repair bill of approximately $3000. I am a retired structural engineer, registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. My quick examination of the failure is that while the 2(?) flat steel straps appeared sufficient, they were only attached to the frame of the trailer by 2 self-tapping screws per strap (one strap was dropped on [XXX] and the other was only held by one loose screw, dragging under the trailer). Multiple thru bolt attachments should have been required with lock washers and/or lock nuts in order to insure a vibration resistant assembly. Further compounding the inadequacy of the design is that the entire underbody of the trailer is insulated and covered by coroplast (corrugated plastic) preventing inspection of the structural integrity without a major strip down of the trailer. This trailer was purchased new in late August 2022 and came with a 3 year structural warranty which Jayco has refused to honor. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATIONRead more

After parking next to a gas pump to refuel, I twice pulled the hood-release handle on the left-side kick panel to check under-hood fluids. The gas pump did not accept my payment, so I drove to a second pump which also did not accept my payment. At this point I drove to a second gas station. As I approached 35 mph moving air suddenly caught the unlatched hood, then lifted and flipped it until it
... landed against the windshield. The hood severely obscured my view while the vehicle was still. Even so, I was able to peek under it enough to limp into a restaurant parking lot, where I stopped the vehicle and moved the hood back to its locked position. The hood latch mechanism does not incorporate a secondary safety hook designed for release while standing in front of the vehicle grill. Nor does the vehicle have an instrument cluster warning light or a DIC (driver information center) alert like it does for a passenger-compartment door not fully closed. Ideally, the vehicle should have an electronic interlock that prevents driving it until the hood is fully closed.Read more

I was at a traffic light today and my rear passenger window just completely spider webbed, while my daughter was in the back seat. I had to pull over and clean as much glass from the window to prevent falling on her and causing any additional damage. There were no other vehicles or pedestrians around. [XXX] [XXX] Thermal stress and expansion: When exposed to high temperatures, the glass expands, and if this expansion is uneven (perhaps due to varying thicknesses or materials), it creates thermal stress, potentially weakening the glass. I am reporting significant premature rust on my 2020 Jeep wrangler. The rust is visible on all four doors and the hood. The vehicle has been properly maintained, regularly washed, and has not been exposed to unusual or extreme environmental conditions that would justify this level of corrosion. The rust appears along the bottom edges and seams of each door, as well as along the leading edge of th
... e hood. These areas show bubbling paint and visible oxidation, which is spreading. Given that this vehicle is only five years old, this level of corrosion is unacceptable and inconsistent with the quality and durability expected from Jeep. Warranty Considerations: This issue should be covered under Jeep’s 5-year/unlimited mile corrosion (perforation) warranty and/or the basic corrosion coverage, as the rust appears to originate from beneath the paint along factory seams — suggesting a defect in materials or workmanship, not owner neglect. Action Requested: I am requesting that Jeep/Stellantis authorize a warranty repair to remove the rust, treat the affected panels, and repaint to factory standards to prevent further deterioration. Given the extent of corrosion at this age, I believe this warrants prompt attention and resolution under warranty coverage. This has been a known issue on 2018 to current Jeep Wrangler and they have not resolved the issue. They keep selling Jeep Wrangler with this issue.Read more

Water intrusion, verified by observation/application of water. The leak resulted in water dripping on the Tailgate/Liftgate Control Module and the general rear cargo area, causing corrosion inside the control module rendering the control module inoperable, which made the power liftgate inoperable as well. Additionally, the rear cargo area had standing water that had accumulated over an unknown per
... iod of time that was visible when you lifted the carpeting. The liftgate latch mechanism also "locked" while the liftgate was open, making securing it closed in the normal way impossible. I would have needed to secure it with bungee cords or tape or some other haphazard way if I wanted to drive it safely on the streets or any contents in the back of the van could have fell out in traffic, or the liftgate may have inadvertently lifted at any time or place uncommanded, causing any type of hazard. Replacing the Control Module ($331.53) remedied the liftgate failure. However, the leak remains, and will allow the same thing to continue to happen. Applying water to the area where the seam on the drivers side body panel and the roof panel meet resulted in water being seen dripping in the interior of the vehicle and onto the liftgate control module. This area should have been made waterproof before the vehicle left the factory, and should be recalled to make it right.Read more

I am the owner of a 2019 Kia Optima SX Turbo in Snow White Pearl (SWP) paint. At approximately 100,000 miles, I observed bubbling and peeling of the paint—no collision or exterior impact occurred to trigger this. The peeling area has since enlarged, exposing the underlying primer or bare metal, which is visible in an attached photo. I contacted Kia around 115,000 miles when I fully realized
... the paint failure. Kia declined to offer any repair or goodwill assistance, citing that the vehicle is no longer under warranty. However, this is a widely reported defect affecting many Kia and Hyundai vehicles with the Snow White Pearl paint. Numerous owners have experienced similar peeling and flaking without misuse or accidents. This is clearly a manufacturing defect in paint adhesion, rather than normal deterioration. It compromises both the vehicle’s aesthetics and resale value, and it may lead to rust or more serious long-term problems. There are pending class-action lawsuits in Canada for identical issues with SWP paint. Yet, U.S. owners are left to manage this defective condition on their own, without support from Kia. I respectfully request the NHTSA open an investigation into this paint failure issue involving Kia vehicles painted in Snow White Pearl, including the 2019 Optima, and consider issuing a recall or a mandatory repair campaign.Read more

... d Audi Corporate and Naples Audi will still make me pay $800 to do the repair. I'm submitting this claim because an inoperable door handle is a huge safety problem and liability to any Audi owner. The parts to repair cost $500, which includes a part to connect the interior handle to the door latch that opens the door, and 4 bolts! I found out the interior part of the door handle is made of plastic – unbelievably not metal. Audit Assistant Service Manager told me over time, especially in the southwest Florida heat, the plastic can become brittle and crack off the latch. One would think Audi Engineers would know to use metal versus plastic for this critical part that enable the door to open. Audi should fully cover the cost to fix my car due to “engineering mistake.” The part wasn’t broken based on anything I, or any other consumer, could do to provide service maintenance to keep this plastic part from cracking. The grill of the vehicle is too big. There is nothing to stop the condenser from being damaged. There should be a plate for airflow but also stop the damage being done to the condenser. Shouldn't have to file an insurance claim, pay out of pocket and warranty doesn't cover. Recurring problem something should be done.

So for starters the visibility wipers should have a auto wiper function as in when it detects rain they will automatically come on. Well they do but they also come on at random intervals even when it’s not raining. Secondly the glove box design is horribly engineered and it falls apart by its self. My glove box flew open while driving down the road and caused me to run off the roadway with my ki
... ds in the car. Luckily my kids and I are safe and no one was hurt but something should be done about this. The tension cord that hooks to the glove box just snapped from the looks of it.Read more

The windshield (visibility system) on my 2025 Hyundai Tucson (VIN: [XXX] ) was cracked on [XXX]. I immediately contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle (in New York), and later local Hyundai dealers in Florida where I now reside. I was informed that the windshield is on a nationwide OEM backorder with no estimated time of arrival (ETA). As of August 6, 2025, the part remains unavail
... able, and the vehicle has been inoperable for 57 days, parked in my garage. The crack makes the vehicle unsafe to drive, and due to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as lane keeping assistance and forward collision warning, the windshield requires proper OEM calibration post-installation, which cannot be performed until the correct part is secured. The issue was confirmed by multiple Hyundai dealers and 3rd-party glass installers, all of whom indicated they are unable to acquire the correct windshield due to Hyundai’s ongoing parts shortage. No resolution has been provided by Hyundai corporate. Although one vendor was referenced by the dealer, they too did not have the part available locally. Hyundai has offered limited rental reimbursement, but not enough to cover costs during this extended downtime. No inspection has been conducted by the manufacturer or insurance company beyond initial confirmation of the damage. No warning lights or messages preceded the incident — the issue is entirely due to the unavailability of a critical OEM part, making the vehicle unsafe and unusable. I am paying monthly for a financed vehicle that cannot be driven due to a manufacturing and supply chain failure beyond my control. The hood flew open upon entering the freeway. Could not see anymore going 60 mph. Had to pull over and bend the fenders back to close the hood. Afraid this will happen again. The latch was recalled before this happened and the dealer sprayed it and said it was safe to drive which it was not. They said nissan would not cover any repairs that are now needed to the hood and fenders.

Clear coat began peeling from side mirrors about a year ago. It is now peeling aggressively on the rear liftgate cover/spoiler. This seems common and is very unsightly. Only impacts the plastic parts.
