Incident date: Jun 19, 2022
While driving on I-64 with direction to Lexington, KY, the hood of the car flew back and smashed the windshield. I was going at 70mph on I-64, driving in the middle lane and with my 3yo son seated in the back in his carseat. I managed to keep control of the car, slowed down and pulled to the right side of the road. The car was non drivable, so AAA had to tow us. My insurance company, Kentucky Farm
... Bureau, has checked the car and stated that is totaled. I have never heard of a car's hood smashing the windshield and the latch not working. There is no police report as they stated that with no collision, there can't be a report. There was no warning lamp about this problem. When going back, the hood ripped the latch from the body of the car. Thankfully both my son and myself were not injured and no one on the road was affected by this.Read more

On or about August 12, 2020 the car was enroute from Corpus Christi, Texas to College Station, Texas. The bumper dislodged from the car and almost feel underneath causing a serious accident. This is a low clearance car with the bottom of the car having an extension causing more difficulty. The car was pulled over to the side of the road and temporarily put in place. The car was taken to AutoNa
... tion Toyota in Corpus Christi, Texas for repair on or about August 15, 2020. Once again, the bumper detached almost causing another accident on or about June 3, 2022. The car was taken in again for repair with Auto Nation Toyota Corpus Christi on or about June 3, 2022 and the pins were replaced. The pins did not hold and the dealership was notified immediately. An appointment was made to secure the pins for June 20, 2022. The dealership stated another bumper needed to be purchased. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW CAUSING THE BUMPER TO DETACH EASILY. THE BUMPER CONSEQUENTLY GOES UNDER THE CAR WITH LOW CLEARANCE AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH A POTENTIAL INABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR WHEN THE BUMPER DISLODGES AND GOES UNDER THE CAR. THIS HAZARD IS NOT ONLY FOR THE DRIVER OF THE CAR BUT OTHERS DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL.Read more

Upon driving this truck for the first time, previous trucks were Kenworth and Peterbilt, it quickly came to my attention that the passenger side door mirror housing blocks drivers view when scanning to the right before entering a roadway. I the affected area extends from the front of the A-pillar to the outside of the mirror housing. When this model was designed the mirror housing that attaches
... to the door was swept back for asthetic reasons I am guessing. This creates a dangerous situation since a lot of the drivers are placed in this particular model when they first start driving. If I was to purchase this particular model, I would immediately replace the mirror with one that was positioned 90 degrees to the door as both the older Freightliner and the trucks mentioned above are. I am not sure how this particular change was approved unless it was tested in a static environment. Please look into this, but the only way to experience what I am describing is too test it in as close to a real world environment as possible.Read more

The trunk latch stopped working. There was a recall in 8/2021 for the same issue with Hyundai and Kia models. I strongly believe this recall should be extended to include 2016 Hyundai elantras because this is a safety issue. God forbid someone were to get stuck in the trunk they would have no way of getting out as I do not have a trunk release button on my key fob or a key hole on the trunk itself
... . The only way to open the trunk is the lever on the drivers side floorboard which stopped working abruptly approximately one month ago. I live in SC and I strongly believe the heat has something to do with the malfunction. Heat was implicated in the 2021 recall. I went to get my car inspected and was told that I would need to replace my cross member/subframe which would cost thousands. I was trying to figure out how to fix it for less when I came across a discussion board where everyone with these vehicles were having the same problem. I also look on YouTube and all the comments under multiple videos showing how to replace it also had the same problem. Th
... is issue is Chrysler knew this was an issue and extended the warranty for that part and most owner of that vehicle had no idea they did. The owner ended up paying thousands for the part or trading their car in and buying another one. I believe Chrysler quietly extended the warranty and never properly notified vehicle owners of the extension. They also didn’t make any type of public announcement that would inform drivers who brought the cars used after one or more owners had it. They also did not allot enough time for the warranty. In the extension letter to dealership I dug up online was announced in 2017. The cars with this issue where produced in 2008-12 but they only extended the warranty to ten years from the start of service. That means if you brought a car in 2008 you would have had less than one year to realize you where eligible for a new subframe under warranty. Also they should have recalled the parts since so many people were have issues with it. And if one’s lived in a state where they don’t need safety inspections they would never have known.Read more

A few days after a scheduled service visit at a local Mercedes-Benz (MB) dealer I noticed a creaking sound coming from the rear of my 2005 SLK350 that continued to get louder as time went by. I scheduled another appointment for post-inspection and I received the unfortunate news that corrosion of the subframe had resulted in a critical fracture rendering the vehicle unsafe to drive and that I was
... actually lucky to have not been involved in an accident from the mechanical failure. It is clear from the undercarriage photos that corrosion was localized to subframe junctions where other areas/parts in the vicinity did not experience debilitating fracture damage. I was surprised that a recently-serviced vehicle was now deemed unsafe to drive and required an entire rear subframe replacement. After some further investigation online (via forums, etc.) this appears to be a prominent issue with the R171 generation of rear subframes where corrosion protection was not applied to the steel subframe interior during manufacturing, which results in corrosion from the inside out, and thus by the time the problem is visually evident it is much too late from a life safety standpoint.Read more
