A couple of months ago, I noticed water had somehow entered the inside of my car, collecting along the interior roof panel and inside the C-pillar close to the top of the driver door. I did a little research to see if I could figure out what the cause of it was. I found that many other owners of 2019 and 2020 Rav4's had similar problems. Their findings indicated that Toyota had equipped poor qu
... ality gaskets, along the the area in which the roof rail trim were fastened to the roof of the car. I also read that this problem could be fixed by the owner, but was unaware that the water leakage would come in contact with electrical components. Yesterday, I experienced first hand the result of this situation. When starting my car, the display board was indicating a multitude of warnings for system malfunctions. These included power steering malfunction, brake system malfunction, pre-collision warning malfunction, lane-monitoring, and on top of this the RPM gauge and engine temperature gauge were both malfunctioning. These warning/indicators persistently flashed and caused a loud beeping sound to go off. The warnings also informed me to not drive the car and see a dealer immediately. After taking it to the dealer, the technicians were able to confirm that water has leaked through the roof rail panels from the area I previously specified. They found water on fuse box/junction connectors. They also found corrosion on pins on driver front door connector, under dash harness connector and body harness connector. While the water damage did not lead to a car accident, it did cause serious concern for the potential risk of car malfunctions. This information will be soon be reviewed by my insurance provider.Read more

I saw a similar NHTSA report for this car, so I will just repeat it here: <start of similar NHTSA REPORT>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NHTSA ID Number: 11440588 The door locks have become ‘sticky’. This means that when pulling on the interior door release handle, the lock is moving to a stuck position that is not permitting egre

This is a dangerous situation, potentially leading to passenger entrapment if the motors or lock mechanism fail. <end of similar NHTSA REPORT>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back to me: I have owned the car for roughly 2 years. The car has 72,000 miles on it. At first the problem was intermittent - less than 5% of the time. Recently, it is up to over 50% of time. A quick look at the BMW message boards shows that this is a widespread problem. There should be a recall on this extremely dangerous defect.Read more

The passenger side windshield trim, separated from the vehicle at highway speeds, and landed onto the windshield of the vehicle behind me. Both vehicles were traveling at 75 mph when the incident occurred. I contacted my servicing Ford dealership, service, and parts department, to which both entities acknowledged this was a common problem for this year and model vehicle. I further inquired if any
... additional recalls for this trim component work on Ford’s recall list to which they said no. I am concerned because in 2020 a recall on the Ford Explorer roof rack rails, work executed, because those were separating from the vehicle at high rate of speed as well. Ford dealership quoted me $851 to replace both windshield trim components, both passenger and driver side a total of four plastic pieces. Ford also stated that the repair work would need to be done by a train service technician vice the end users themselves. Estimating approximately two hours of labor for both components would require the Ford vehicle owner to pay for $1000 to affect a repair which clearly is defective and unsafe at highway speeds. Separation of this component from the vehicle could have resulted in a high-speed collision and potential loss of life as a result of the failure of this part. I have also notified the Ford dealership that I intend to file a formal complaint on the defective parts with Ford motor company, as well as the NHTSA.Read more

As I was driving my Genesis G70 on the highway last week in heavy traffic, without any warning, the sunroof exploded. It made a very loud noise and scared the hell out of me. Luckily I maintained control of the vehicle. The sunroof was closed at the time, but the violent buffeting of the sunshade let me know that there was no longer any glass above it. It was a mild 50 degree day, with no snow or
... ice on the ground or on the vehicles around me. I hadn't hit a pothole or anything like that, and I hadn't driven under any overpass. Nothing came through the sunshade, other than broken glass when I opened it to confirm the failure. I was able to pull over at a rest stop in the next mile or so, and inspect the vehicle. I also took pictures of what was left of the sunroof. It was all shattered and cracked, and about half the glass, from the middle section, was gone. It must have pelted the cars behind me on the highway with glass fragments. I had to remove the remaining broken glass that I thought would likely fly off as I drove home, as well as the glass that had fallen into the interior, and put it in the trunk until I got home. I called Genesis Customer Care from the roadside and told them what had just happened. They have opened a case number, but six days later I still don't know what they plan to do about it. The day after it occurred I also called my insurance agent and my local dealer where I bought the car and told them about it. I'm waiting to find out when I can get the sunroof replaced on my daily driver, and if it will be paid for, along with the rental or loaner car that I'll need while it's in the shop. Neither the dealer or Genesis have asked to see the car or the pictures I took. After doing some research, it seems that sudden failures ("explosions") of the sunroof on Hyundai (and now Genesis) vehicles is not that uncommon. This is a dangerous failure as it could cause the driver to lose control, as well as hitting other cars on the road with glass.Read more

On 18 January 2023 the tailgate on our 2020 Odyssey refused to open. Neither the inside switch nor the outside switch does anything. I crawled in the back and checked the fuses and both are good. I also discovered that the emergency tailgate release did not function. Took it to the dealer, Greenway Honda in Florence, Alabama, an hour from home, and they weren't able to find the fault with a curso
... ry check and a reboot of whatever computer system is applicable. They said they need to keep it for at least a half day and "really tear into it." But we could not leave the vehicle at that time, having no transportation home. Eventual diagnosis determined the tailgate control module, the tailgate closure motor, and the tailgate latch had all failed. Parts were on backorder and no estimate on availability. After I contacted Honda corporate the parts suddenly became available at the dealership within a few days. Repairs were effected on 27 February at Greenway Honda, Florence, Alabama. We were without the full use of our vehicle for approximately six weeks. Occupants could become trapped in the vehicle if the front doors were disabled in a collision and electrical power was lost, rendering the sliding doors and the tailgate inoperative. The emergency release lever also would not function and this could trap occupants completely. Examination of the tailgate electronic control module shows water infiltration which conceivably shorted the closure motor and jammed the latch, making it impossible to open the tailgate. Photos of the failed electronic module were provided to the dealership and to Honda corporate. The failed parts are in my possession and are available for inspection.Read more

I finally decided to get this eye sore fixed before it caused any more damage to my vehicle. I called my local body shop and they said that piece needs to be replaced by an auto glass shop. The manufacturer has deceived buyers concerning the towing capabilities: https://insidemazda.mazdausa.com/the-mazda-way/mazda-cx-50-offers-confident-towing-capabilities/ I bought the OEM tow hitch and wiring to achieve the advertised 3500 lb towing capacity, but according to the owners manual that is not possible as you are limited to 1000 lb without a brake controller which can not be purchased

I currently own a 2000lb trailer; I bought this vehicle specifically to pull it. There is no way to achieve this safely and legally despite the advertisements without aftermarket parts. If the required aftermarket brake controller install were to damage the vehicle's electrical system in some way, I doubt Mazda would cover that under warranty. The promotional material says nothing about non-OEM equipment first having to be installed in the car to achieve this tow limit safely. Rear outer TAIL LAMP combination assemblies (NOT the inner lights on the trunk lid) have failed Virginia State SAFETY Inspection due to accumulation of moisture and standing water in BOTH left and right outer tail lamps, causing LEDs in the tail lamp assembly to burn out and not illuminate. There have already been multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) on the matter (i.e. KIA TSB PS364, KIA T
... SB BOD143, KIA TSB BOD172), and the cause outlined in these TSBs has been a DEFECT in design leading to a gap between the tail lamp housing gasket and the vehicle body allowing WATER INTRUSION. KIA has neglected to inspect, fix, or add additional gaskets per their instructions during eligible warranty periods, and extended warranties refuse to fix the issue as they classify it as water intrusion. This pins the financial burden to fix the safety issue on the customer/driver, as KIA dealers have quoted $1,232.46 for replacement of these tail lamps. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Components: Rear outer tail lamp combination assemblies (both left and right) (NOT the lamps on the trunk lid). Inspection availability: LIMITED due to significant time pressure and inconvenience (since the tail lamps have caused the vehicle to fail Virginia State Safety Inspection, the car needs to be fixed ASAP to resume commute to work, etc.) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Lower visibility for others, may result in incident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Confirmed by KIA dealer themselves. Also, multiple customer complaints on internet, as well as TSBs. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? KIA dealer did not inspect during warranty. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No and UNKNOWN.Read more

Upon closer inspection at home, we discovered that splash shield is only held in place by 3 fasteners instead of

On February 17, 2023, my vehicle was broken into and damaged because thieves tried to highjack the car using a now common method of the end of a USB cable in the ignition. The passenger rear window, the steering column, and the key ignition were all damaged, and I had my vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership. Nearly all 2011-2021 Kia and Hyundai vehicles are made easy to operate without a key, to
... steal, and to vandalize. This security vulnerability has resulted in Kia and Hyundai owners paying for repairs (even with insurance, owners need to pay the deductible) and higher insurance premiums. Hyundai and Kia did not disclose this defect, which is a material fact, and a fact that a reasonable person would rely on when purchasing a vehicle, consequently making these vehicles easy to steal, unsafe, and worth less than they should be. The service writer at the dealership informed me that it could take 30-45 days to get the parts since this type of vandalism has increased significantly over the last six months. It has become well-known that these thefts are due to security flaws (re: failure to implement standard security measures and install anti-theft devices) in Kia and Hyundai vehicles, leaving them notably susceptible to theft. Kia and Hyundai owners, including myself, are left with limited time use of rental cars during repairs, oftentimes because of the delay in the delivery of parts. This situation also leaves Kia and Hyundai owners with higher insurance rates (or being simply denied of obtaining insurance) because of these vehicles.Read more

... or it won't shut correctly. Called Ford Dealership and was advised to take to a body shop for repair, which would involve replacing the left front door check arm and door because the spot welds break on the driver door check arm attachment point, at a price point of over $2K. They stated that is is a common occurrence on the 2020 Escapes, because of a manufacturer defect. This is mentioned in the NHTSA ID #10201603. If a door will not properly shut or window properly open it won't pass a safety inspection for any state.Read more
