The vehicle was driven by my [XXX] daughter and at @ 6 pm on [XXX] the engine was making a noise and that the car was starting to slow down and stall,so she called me. She pulled over and shut the car off and then all the dashboard lights started to blink really fast. The car started to smoke from the engine, she got out and called 911. 911 said they would send a tow truck. within a few minu
... tes sparks were coming from underneath the engine and then the fire started. she called 911 and myself again to report the car was on fire. Thank God she was away from the car. The tow co. arrived first, then first responders, then myself. The highway was shut down to put out the fire. Our daughter was hysterical and the car is a total loss. We waited until the car fire was extinguished. The first responders offered medical attention, but she just wanted to go home. There is a current recall for this make and model, but not the year. What my daughter described, sounds like the current recall from Honda for other makes including the Pilot. I posted on social media and a few people reached out to say their 2017 honda pilot had a similar issue, but thankfully no fire. This recall is very serious because they are replacing the engine for owners. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

Water leaking into interior of vehicle and to the trunk of the vehicle. Noticed significant water entered and entering into the trunk of the Audi after a recent rain. Honda Odessey 2013Driving down a highway at 55mph when we heard a loud backfire. Engine light came on, car shook violently. We immediately pulled into a gas station where a mechanic was present. Mechanic scanned for codes and codes p0302 and P0303 came up. The cylinders had rotated and aligned fouling the spark plugs. and damaging the coil. Had we continued to drive we would have ruined the engine
... . He changed the coil and spark plugs but noted that the oil consumption was extremely high since last change due to the VCM issue. The Honda Service Bulletin 13-081 revealed the VCM system poses risk of ruining the engine. When I returned home, I inquired what could be done to fix it. The local dealership said purchase a new engine and spark plugs. The warranty fix for this ended in 2021 and I did not buy the car until 2022. The same faulty system has been on the Odessey since 2011 and continues to be installed as of this date 2024. This issue along with the peeling paint coming off in large sheets from the roof and rear door make this car a complete failure and safety hazard.Read more

Power tailgate began to malfunction first by opening slowly or not opening at all. Once open, would not close automatically. Would require a lot of manual force. A service bulletin for windshields leaking into 2024 Santa Cruz and Tucson vehicles was issued on 11/02/23 from Hyundai, causing passenger side flooding. The length of time these models were exposed to or held water could pose these safety risks: 1 Corrosion of various mechanical and electrical parts from water entry for months that could cause safety risks at a later time. Ex. Certain Hyundai veh
... icles were recalled in 2006-2015 for fires originating from the ABS system due to liquid leaks and corrosion caused by failing seals and leaking water. The electric systems could short out, spark, and cause a fire, posing a risk even when the car was not in operation. 2 The possibility of the presence of invisible mold spores that grow quickly inside a closed car environment is a serious health risk for those who have a high allergy to mold, allergic asthma, COPD or other lung problems. 3 Some vehicles also experienced water entry from a firewall separation from the windshield. If the firewall is part of the unibody construction and protection for components and passengers, this is concerning. 4 Inadequate or improper repair instructions cause new owner concerns regarding the integrity of their vehicle. A. Hyundai only authorized dealers to “...insert sealant in the area that has been improperly sealed.” An auto water leak tech reported such windshield leaks require a glass company for repairs. The dealer reported around eight other vehicles have experienced the leakage at their shop. I know of no inspections by Hyundai or other service techs but is available. I did not know my car had water in the passenger side for the two months I had it. These models have been exposed to water entry from their manufacture date from this defect that somehow slipped through inspection and quality control. A Hyundai forum reported that some models experienced windshield leaks back in 2020. I am very concerned that this continues to be a cost cutting practice passed on to consumers.Read more

[XXX] 10 year old VW Jetta that was always in the garage until last year when we moved. Now have a nauseating mildew smell throughout the interior. Finally found water under the front carpet. Then found this VW Tech Tip (above). Apparently a known manufacturing issue: "seam sealer Skip" is how they refer to it. Now it's out of warranty with only 52,000 mi and is an unsafe mildew/mold trap. The
... dealer says it may be $3,000 to fix. Removed driver side front fender, the entire interior and sent the carpet and padding to be ozoned. See pic. Most seam sealer around hinges and A pillar are all painted the body color. This pic shows where it was "skipped" during the build. The dealer repaired the driver side last week without painting (why it's black). Then they strangely stated that they'd like to remove the passenger side fender as well to look for "more holes". They know what's going on. This is a well-known problem. VW customer service said they won't offer any assistance since it's out of warranty. I did own it while under warranty, but never noticed since it was garaged. Do I have any recourse since it's an admitted manufacturing problem? Thanks for your consideration. While at the gym one evening on 1/3, I came back to my car and noticed a shattered rear windshield. Initially my thoughts were 'did my car get broken into?' however, nothing was missing and my gym is located in a fairly safe part of town. Shortly thereafter, I became aware of many HRV owners experiencing 'spontaneous' shattering of the rear windshield. The situation was beginning to make more sense. 2020 Ford Escape has a broken spot weld in the drivers door. First the door would stick when opening and closing then it would not close. I contacted Ford support about the matter, several times, and wrote letters to the Ford Corporation because the cost
... of this repair should not fall on me this is a known problem to Ford. I have a copy of the paper work that Ford sent out to repair shops detailing the problem. This defect happened in the factory it was not caused by me. In order to close the driver's door I could only roll my window down a few inches. Every time I went to a drive through I had to open my door to do business, rain or shin and embarrassing. I asked the repair shop to help me with the window issue so they removed a part in the door. Now I have to hang on to the door when opening because it will fly open. This defect is a Ford defect and the consumer should not be held responsible. Since my car went to the shop they have had many others come in with same problem, if they are still under warranty door is paid for. But not mine! We even bought the EasyCare to cover future car trouble and guess what the inside of door not covered. This is the 6th winter I have had my truck. Every winter, the door locks freeze to the point the doors won't close. I have called ford, they have replaced the door locks. The problem still persists. I went to warm them up with a torch today to get them working again. I left and once again the door flew open under braking. I have called ford on this, they need to fix it before something really bad
... happens. This has happened at least once every winter. I am afraid to drive the thing when it freezes for fear of the doors flying open. the only warning lamp happens once the door is open. It won't go into gear. That's great and all but it doesn't let me know when the door may be compromised due to freezing. The dealer and ford have both confirmed this a known problem. I believe there was even a recall. They replaced all my door locks. The problem still persists. I believe this is a huge safety risk. Alls it take is for one person not wearing their seatbelt to make a right hand turn. If the door swings open, they very well could fall out and possibly get run over and even worse send a 5,000 pound unmanned vehicle into who knows what.Read more

In unexpected and unknown circumstances (false sensor detections?), the automated doors and trunk will suddenly reverse direction when opening and rapidly close instead of pausing. This can cause injury with no ability to get out of the way in proper time. I’ve experience cases where the trunk opened then suddenly came down hitting me in the head. Also, have had cases where the falcon wing do
... ors have closed abruptly hitting my 8yr old child rather hard. Only when he started to get pinched in the doors did it stop on pressure. I also have experienced where the automatic closing of the front driver’s door was inadvertently triggered while getting in and catching the edge of the brake pedal. This caused the door so close rapidly and firmly on my leg. Overall, these doors shouldn’t be aggressively trying to close if sensors determine a reason it cannot open. As for the front door, I don’t know what the answer is but it’s dangerous.Read more
