The steering is affected, and my vehicle is available for inspection at request. When engaging in longer highway drives (40+ minutes) and going at higher speeds (50mph+), the steering wheel starts to "stick" close to the center/0 degree mark when making small adjustments in lane (+/-1 to +/- 3 degrees from 0 degrees) or when moving between lanes. This means I have to pay special attention after
... my drive hits a certain distance, especially when making leftward adjustments on longer curves. The issue is more prevalent in freezing temperatures (20-40F) and becomes less prevalent in warmer temps (55F+), but still noticeable after aforementioned longer drives. Since my commute is about an hour/40 miles, I am able to consistently reproduce the issue later in the drive. One very easy scenario to reproduce the issue in, is on longer/smoother highway curves to the right: when the wheel is "right" for a longer period of time at high speeds, the sticking is pretty noticeable when adjusting left to center. The sticking does not make a noise but is noticeable with one or both hands. The issue is not very noticeable at lower speeds when the power steering kicks in. While this is just a nuisance at the moment, I am concerned that the issue could get worse and become a safety issue. I have not yet taken the vehicle to the dealer though, as the issue takes a while to reproduce and I am not confident that most service advisors/techs would be willing to drive my vehicle for an hour to reproduce this issue. I plan to either bring it up at my next oil change, or if the issue gets worse (and thus, easier to reproduce).Read more

My 2013 Honda CRV completely broke down in late August 2025, as I was backing out of my driveway. Our lives were at risk. This could have happened in traffic, causing a terrible collision. My local Honda dealership found the chain guides broken and the timing off, and recommended replacement of several parts (timing chain, guides, tensioner, exhaust cam, rockers, and ... VTC actuator). Initially,
... they thought the cause was a lack of proper maintenance, specifically, infrequent or improper oil changes. I knew we had taken proper care of our car, so I began investigating. The check engine light was on for at least 2 years (as well as the rattling at start-up), and I had not gotten clarity on it until recently, after consulting with multiple professionals. Finally, a Jiffy Lube tech said it was due to the VTC actuator. I then brought my car to the Honda dealership in July 2025 for an oil change and to discuss the check engine light and VTC actuator issue. At that time, they did not alert me to the VTC actuator defect or the potential for complete engine failure. As I continued my investigation, I found a Honda Service Bulletin starting in 2016 (when my car was still under its three-year warranty) and updated in 2017 (when my car was still under its five-year Power Train warranty) describing the VTC actuator as defective. Had American Honda issued a recall at that time, instead of an SB, and had notified me of this defective part, my warranties in those years would have covered the replacement costs of my VTC actuator and related engine parts. And also been significantly less expensive. Flash forward to this fall 2025: as I continued my investigation, I discovered multiple class-action lawsuits against American Honda for this exact issue—a known defective VTC actuator. It turns out they conducted an internal study in 2011 that found the VTC actuator was defective. Now the dealership believes my car's failure was caused by a defective VTC actuator.Read more

My 2018 Tesla Model S has a recurring safety-critical defect involving the steering system and the Chassis CAN communication network. On October 20, 2025, the vehicle had to be towed to a Tesla Service Center because it would not power on and displayed multiple safety alerts (traction control disabled, stability control disabled, ABS disabled, and reduced steering assist). Tesla documented that th
... e steering rack was “bringing down the Chassis CAN” and stated the issue might require a new steering rack and coolant pump if it returned. The warnings have now returned, and the vehicle is again showing active alerts for disabled traction control, disabled stability control, and previously reduced steering assist. This is a repeat of the same unsafe condition that Tesla attempted to repair. The car is unsafe to drive and could cause loss of steering control. This is a recurring steering/Chassis CAN failure with major safety system disablement. I am reporting this because the defect affects vehicle control and increases the risk of a crash.Read more

While driving, the power steering warning came on and the steering wheel became extremely tight, making it very difficult to turn. This has happened more than once, most recently on December 8, 2025. The loss of steering assist occurred while the vehicle was in motion and created a serious safety concern. The dealership retrieved diagnostic code C1250-52, which indicates an internal malfunction o
... f the electric brake booster ECU. The steering issue and warning occurred again after the initial diagnosis. The system appears to fail intermittently and without warning. I have owned multiple Honda Accord vehicles over the years and have never experienced anything like this. Sudden loss of steering assist while driving is a safety defect, and similar issues have been reported by other owners of 2018–2022 Honda Accord models.Read more

Filing this complaint regarding a known safety defect affecting my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sport - specifically the steering damper column defect commonly referred to as "Death Wobble." ISSUE: My vehicle experiences violent and uncontrollable steering wheel oscillation when hitting bumps or road imperfections at highway speeds (typically above 55 mph). This phenomenon causes the entire front end to sha
... ke violently, requiring me to immediately slow down to regain control of the vehicle. This poses an extreme safety risk to myself, my passengers, and other motorists. I believe my vehicle has an issue with steering damper failure - the exact same defect addressed in Customer Satisfaction Notification V41 issued by FCA in June 2019. THE PROBLEM: While FCA issued CSN V41 covering approximately 192,000 2018-2019 Jeep Wranglers for steering damper defects, however my VIN was excluded from this notification despite experiencing the identical safety defect. FCA selectively applied the remedy to certain VINs rather than addressing all affected vehicles from these model years. SAFETY CONCERNS: This defect creates loss of vehicle control at highway speeds, significantly increasing crash risk. The NHTSA investigation (PE19-012) identified frame weld quality deficiencies and steering-related defects in 2018-2019 Wranglers affecting approximately 270,000 vehicles. Multiple investigations have documented steering looseness, steering wobble/shimmy, and loss of steering control in these model years. MANUFACTURER REFUSAL: Despite the known defect and my vehicle exhibiting the exact symptoms addressed in CSN V41, I believe once I take it in for service, Jeep will refuse to repair this safety issue under warranty, forcing me to bear the financial burden for a known manufacturing defect. REQUEST: I request NHTSA investigate why FCA limited CSN V41 to select VINs when the defect clearly affects a broader population of 2018-2019 Wranglers.Read more

My vehicle is under an open safety recall 01C involving the PTU system, and there has been no remedy available for nearly a year. This defect caused a dangerous and sudden loss of acceleration while I was driving, and the manufacturer has still provided no fix, and no support through the dealership. The incident occurred when I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green,I pressed the
... gas and the vehicle immediately made a loud grinding/shaking noise, shuddered violently, and lost all propulsion. The car would barely move. I was extremely lucky that there was a parking lot directly next to the intersection, and with the tiny amount of movement left,I was able to coast into it. If this failure had happened anywhere else—on a highway, in the middle of an intersection, or without a place to pull off—I could have been rear-ended or caused a collision. My safety was put at immediate risk due to this recall defect. I contacted the dealership, but they stated they could not repair the vehicle because Jeep/Stellantis had not released a remedy, parts, or service procedure for the recall. I was told multiple times that there was nothing they could do until Jeep provided a fix. After the breakdown, an independent shop confirmed the PTU failure, since the dealer still had no ability to repair it. All failed components and documentation are available for inspection. I lost use of my vehicle and was forced to take safety into my own hands. When I submitted reimbursement documentation to Jeep Customer Care, they denied it because the repair was not done at a certified dealer and did not use MOPAR parts—even though no certified repair or MOPAR parts exist for this recall. This leaves me without a safe vehicle, without a remedy, and without support. I am requesting NHTSA intervention due to the ongoing safety risk and the manufacturer’s failure to provide a timely fix and proper reimbursement for their admitted issue with the vehicle.Read more

I purchased a 2017 F150 in March of 25’. Miraculously no issue started until approx 4000 miles after the purchase. The dealer warranty was good for 3500. In the months that preceded issue after issue began to arise. First and least important in my personal opinion. I get in my truck to head to work and my sliding back glass is laying in backseat, completely intact with the track it slides on. On
... e would initially think the GA sun maybe warmed the adhesive to such a Temp that it came loose but my truck is parked in the shade every day at work & at home. Insurance won’t cover it because they say it’s on Ford. Next I have lost power steering, when loosing it i have apparently lost all of steering, uphill downhill assistance an approx 10 other warnings that come every time i crank it. I have been driving the truck 7 months now with no power steering. Lastly and most important, the 10 speed transmission is completely faulty. The problems with it started in July. When accelerating from a stand still, like pulling on the road or highway, over 50% of the time the transmission just fails and you are a sitting duck for any oncoming traffic. Typically 2-4 secs later, the truck will catch of sudden with such a jerk it will give you whiplash. So once you made it through getting on the highway without dying, every shift of the transmission from 4th to 10th, the truck shutters and shakes so bad it seems like it will fall apart. The engine light will start flashing and you can’t go faster than 40-45 for about 15 secs until the engine light is solid again. Then while shuttering you can’t attempt to increase speed. I contacted Ford, I was completely blown off, they denied that 2017 f150 have any transmission issues. I’m forced to drive this daily because I spent all my savings on this truck. Oil change, along with oil filter have been kept up every 5,000 mi. I out everything into this truck and now I have a duct tape back window, no power steering and a transmission faulty.Read more

While driving the Electronic Power Steering Rack stopped working. I pulled over and inspected to see if there was any damage to it. I do not drive it anymore as I am scared that if I am on the highway it might turn off again and I will loose control of the vehicle. I have not taken it to get checked as I am scared to drive it. My 2025 Honda Prologue Touring, purchased in August and currently with only 7,000 miles, is experiencing multiple serious safety issues. The vehicle has already had both the left and right axles replaced. by warranty Now, the left axle is failing again. A defective axle can break at high speeds, which puts my entire family at risk, including my baby. This issue compromises vehicle stability and c
... ould easily lead to a serious accident. Additionally, the vehicle’s collision mitigation system activates unexpectedly, causing the car to brake on its own without any obstacle present. This sudden braking is extremely dangerous, especially on the highway, as it could result in a rear-end collision. The blind-spot indicators also activate at random. When I attempt to turn right or left, the blind-spot warning turns on even when I double-check and confirm that there are no vehicles anywhere near me. This creates confusion and hesitation while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Given the repeated axle failures, unintended braking, and malfunctioning blind-spot monitoring system, I believe the vehicle presents significant safety defects that require investigation.Read more

I purchased this used Tesla Model 3 (VIN: [XXX] ) from a licensed dealer on July 15th, 2025. The vehicle is still under the original manufacturer warranty. Since ownership, I have experienced a persistent metal-impact noise coming from the suspension and steering area, especially when going over speed bumps, uneven road surfaces, or low-speed turns. The noise sounds like loose metal parts making
... contact. Tesla service has attempted repairs multiple times, including a recent visit that lasted several weeks. Although some minor issues were addressed, the abnormal metal impact noise continues and has never been fully resolved. The repeated unresolved noise raises concerns about structural integrity and potential failure within components related to steering, wheels, or suspension. While the vehicle remains operable, the issue affects driving confidence, comfort, and concentration. Over time, the repeated metal noise has caused stress and anxiety because I am unsure whether a part will loosen or fail while driving. Since the problem remains after multiple attempts to repair, I am reporting this as a potential safety-related defect. Thank you. On Sunday Nov. 16th, my steering wheel felt like it was "slipping", akin to how it feels when your serpentine belt tensioner is failing. And we got a warning about trailer brake controller needs repair. After reviewin
... g similar problems on Reddit, I found it was still safe to drive, so we drove home without further incident. Monday I decided to take it to O'Reilly auto parts and have a code scan done. Except, as soon as I turned out of the driveway, my wheel completely froze up solid. I could NOT move the wheel (q2)! Since the wheel was still turned, I backed it into the driveway and we took our car to buy our own code scanner. It showed more than just one fault code for the brakes, there were 5. I called Fox Chevrolet to schedule al appointment for the next day. Fortunately, the failure occurred as the Advisor attempted to turn the wheel (q3). Long story short: problem was a rusted/rotted out ground wire (q1)! Behind the front driver side tire, encased in a boot. Tech told the Advisor he'd never seen that one before. $40 part, and $400 to install it (q4). I was happy it wasn't a power steering rack failure (electric) but the more I thought about it, felt I needed to report this. You needed a dealer scanner to catch this and trace it to a ground fault. Probably better for you to contact dealer Advisor and Tech to get a better breakdown on this (q1). Dealer was great, they could have sold me an $1800 steering rack and I'd have never known. Could this failure have happened to someone driving on the street and this pop up all of a sudden (q2)? I believe so. Glad I didn't find out firsthand. The problem went away overnight twice, and then all of a sudden your wheel is LOCKED. I'm curious as to if others are or have faced this, thus my submittal. Thanks for your time.Read more

The loss of power steering has happened multiple times with no advance warning. Each time, the only way to temporarily restore normal steering is
... to pull over, turn the vehicle off, and restart it. The problem occurs randomly and without a pattern. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The issue has been evaluated by the dealer’s service center. They were not able to reproduce the failure during their inspection, but they did confirm that the vehicle had stored a diagnostic trouble code indicating a power steering failure. The service center reported that the code was too generic to determine the root cause, and no repair was performed. They acknowledged that the steering failure had occurred based on the stored code, but could not identify why it was happening. During the failures, the vehicle displays warning messages stating that both Stabilitrak and Power Steering have failed. These messages appear only at the moment of failure, with no prior warning lights or symptoms. This intermittent loss of power steering severely compromises safe operation of the vehicle, especially when turning at low speeds, entering or exiting parking lots, or navigating intersections. It puts me, my passengers, and the surrounding drivers and pedestrians at risk because the vehicle cannot be steered normally when the failure occurs.Read more

It's been nine days without a vehicle. I still have car payment for a car I now cannot drive due to no error of my own. I have taken all the steps to remedy this to no avail.Read more

On 6 occasions in varying driving conditions “Service AEB System Immediately” message and warning lights has appeared on instrument cluster. When this occurs all safety features are also disengaged. Furthermore, on a different occasion the vehicle was parked for 4 hours and after starting the vehicle I received a “Power Steering Overheat” message and warning light on the instrument cluster
... . Due to this the steering also became stiff. Finally, on 4 occasions now a “Parking Light Out” message has appeared on the instrument cluster. When exiting the vehicle it is observed that the DRL in the passenger headlight will frequently turn off during operation and just go black. Then after restarting the vehicle will come back on. This vehicle has already been in service twice (and is going in a 3rd time this week) for these issues and have shown no signs of resolution. I am seriously wanting to lemon law this vehicle at this point as it does not feel safe to operate with the many electrical faults.Read more

While driving at highway speeds (approx. 65 MPH), the vehicle suffered a sudden and catastrophic loss of motive power. The "Hybrid System Malfunction" warning illuminated, followed immediately by a "Check Engine" light. The vehicle entered a fail-safe mode, then completely shut down. The steering wheel locked, making it extremely difficult to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder in a dark, remote
... area with freezing temperatures. This presented an immediate life-safety risk to all occupants. Following the incident, the vehicle was presented to two separate authorized Toyota dealerships in the US for emergency assistance. Both failed to provide the standard of care required for a high-voltage safety failure. The first dealer refused to perform even a basic safety inspection or intake the vehicle, stating they had no hybrid technicians on weekends. They turned the vehicle away without safety warnings, forcing the operation of a chemically failing vehicle on public roads. The second dealer attempted to charge a diagnostic fee. However, when questioned, they admitted they also did not have a hybrid-certified technician on site. They attempted to bill for a diagnostic service they knowingly could not perform. This fraudulent charge was only rescinded after it was challenged. They subsequently refused further assistance, leaving the occupants stranded. The vehicle was eventually towed to a third dealer (in Canada) where it was diagnosed with severe corrosion of the High-Voltage Floor Under Wire Harness (MGR Cable), a known defect. The dealer confirmed the rear motor cable was corroded and required replacement. The repair involved replacing the cable and installing a "splash guard" cap. No prior warning signs occurred before the sudden highway shutdown. This failure is a result of the manufacturer's failure to adequately seal high-voltage components against corrosion and the dealer network's gross negligence in refusing emergency safety support.Read more

I bought this truck used from a dealership in 2022-23 haven't really had any problems till about 2 months ago. Front end started a wobble. A friend of mine just sent me information NHTSA put out about the Death Wobble. I believe it expired in 2024. I never received any kind of recall on this. I was wondering if it would still be something I could get looked into. Thank you.

Accident Statement – Instrument Panel Cluster Failure & Collision While driving my 2025 Ford Outerbanks, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) screen suddenly went completely black without warning. At the time of the malfunction, I was attempting to merge into traffic on my left with my left turn signal activated. Simultaneously, an 18-wheeler in the lane beside me was merging to his right. The s
... udden loss of my IPC screen meant I could not see my speedometer, warning indicators, safety messages, or any visibility cues needed to safely judge traffic speed and spacing. This created an immediate hazardous situation and made it extremely difficult to manage both my own speed and the surrounding traffic patterns. As I recognized the danger, I attempted to brake and avoid a collision. During this moment, my steering wheel began to shake slightly—possibly due to the lane-keeping or lane-safety system responding. Despite my efforts to correct and avoid impact, the 18-wheeler collided with my vehicle. At the time of the crash, I had no visibility of any dashboard warnings, alerts, vehicle speed, or safety notifications due to the IPC failure. My insurance representative has inspected my vehicle and deemed it a total loss.Read more

My Tesla Model 3 is experiencing premature suspension failures involving the lower lateral links and stabilizer links. These components were already replaced once, and they are failing again in less than 30,000 miles. This is not normal wear for suspension parts on a modern vehicle. These failures cause clunking, instability, and looseness in the front end—conditions that affect the vehicle’s
... ability to track straight and maintain control, especially over uneven pavement or during emergency maneuvers. This isn’t an isolated case. There are extensive reports from other Tesla owners across multiple models (Model 3 and Model Y in particular) showing the same premature wear on these suspension links. Many owners have parts failing even earlier. Once the car is out of warranty, Tesla charges thousands of dollars to replace these components, despite clear indications that the suspension was under-engineered for the weight of the vehicle. Tesla knows this is a recurring issue but refuses to issue a recall or goodwill repairs. A repeated failure of critical suspension links in such low mileage suggests a defect. These parts should not be wearing out this fast, and the resulting instability poses a real safety risk. I’m requesting NHTSA investigate these premature failures.Read more
