At ~20,300 miles, severe chassis and steering wheel vibration occurred during high-speed highway descents while braking. Safety risk: reduced steering control at highway speed. The vehicle was inspected by a franchised Chevrolet dealer in Lakewood, CO. The technician's written service notes document rear rotor Lateral Runout (LRO) of 0.006 inches against GM's maximum allowable specification of 0.
... 002 inches per GM Service Bulletin 00-05-22-002 — 3x the engineering limit. The defect was confirmed in dealer documentation and is available for inspection. After I identified this discrepancy, the Service Manager claimed the technician meant 0.006 mm (metric). Photographic evidence from the dealer's own diagnostic video shows a dial indicator clearly labeled in 0.001-inch increments with the needle resting on the 6th tick mark. A metric reading of 0.0002 inches is physically impossible to display as 6 full divisions on this tool. GM Customer Assistance denied the warranty claim, classifying it as maintenance. Lateral Runout is a geometric specification, not a wear measurement. A rotor 3x out of tolerance at 20,300 miles is a material or assembly defect. No warning lamps appeared. The safety concern remains unresolved.Read more

I am reporting a potential safety issue involving the lane assist system on our Kia Sportage. On Monday morning, my wife was driving on a straight road and began turning left onto a side street. During the turn, the vehicle’s lane assist system suddenly applied a strong steering correction. The steering wheel jerked unexpectedly and momentarily resisted the driver’s attempt to correct the ste
... ering. This sudden steering intervention caused the vehicle to veer toward a guardrail, resulting in a collision. The driver did not intentionally steer toward the guardrail and attempted to correct the vehicle, but the steering wheel resisted input at the moment the lane assist system intervened. A dashcam in the vehicle recorded the incident, and the responding police officer reviewed the footage at the scene and concluded that the steering wheel jerked toward the guardrail. The police report notes that the accident appeared to involve a possible vehicle malfunction. After the incident, we discovered that this vehicle is included in NHTSA Campaign 26V046000, which states that a software error may cause the instrument panel display to fail to show critical safety information such as warning lights. If a malfunction warning occurred but was not displayed, the driver would not have been aware of a problem with the system. The lane assist feature in this vehicle also automatically reactivates each time the vehicle is started, meaning the driver cannot permanently disable it. Because the steering intervention occurred unexpectedly during a normal turn and resulted in a collision, we are reporting this incident so it can be reviewed as a potential safety defect involving the lane assist or related vehicle systems.Read more

Steering wheel fails to return to center after turns — potential steering gear defect 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV steering wheel fails to return to center after completing turns, particularly at low speeds. Steering requires manual input to re-center the vehicle after every turn. No warning lights or audible alerts. The issue is not attributable to alignment, tires, or tire pressure, as I have had ne
... w OEM-spec tires installed and an alignment performed without any improvement to the steering. I brought the vehicle to the dealership to address this safety concern. They stated unable to replicate the issue and sent me away without performing repair. The dealership charged me for an alignment but provided only post-alignment figures — no before measurements, making it impossible to determine whether any corrective action was actually taken or whether the alignment was a contributing factor. This is a safety concern as it requires constant driver correction after every turn, increasing risk of overcorrection, unintended lane departure, and delayed response in emergency situations. Condition is hazardous in low-speed environments such as parking lots, intersections, on/off ramps, and residential streets where frequent turns are made and rapid corrections may be necessary. Issue is not isolated to my vehicle or model year. Owners of 2017-2019, 2022, and 2023 Chevy Bolt EVs have reported identical symptoms across multiple owner forums, with hundreds of documented complaints. Community research and independent mechanic diagnoses consistently identify the steering gear (rack and pinion) as the root cause, with internal binding cited as the failure. GM's own service manual includes a diagnostic path for "Poor Return of Steering Wheel," confirming GM is aware this condition exists. No recall or service bulletin issued addressing this widespread concern despite years of owner complaints spanning all Bolt EV model years. Request that NHTSA investigate and consider issuing a recall.Read more

Vehicle experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure characterized by a percussive "shotgun blast" noise from the rear chassis, followed by an immediate, total loss of braking power (pedal to the floor) and a violent loss of directional stability. This incident represents an aggravated safety failure of known GMT900 platform defects. The technical chain of causality began with the factory exhaust
... manifold fasteners suffering a metallurgical shear, a universal defect documented under GM Bulletins 19-NA-218, PIP5075, and PIP4701. This shear created a high-velocity, high-heat exhaust leak directed at the brake master cylinder and vacuum assembly. This "heat soak" event compromised the engine-mounted mechanical Brake Vacuum Pump (Recall N192268490 / NHTSA 19V645) and destroyed the internal seals of the Master Cylinder (Special Coverage 15143 / NHTSA 11V599), resulting in total depletion of vacuum assist and hydraulic pressure. Simultaneously, the "shotgun blast" and violent swerve were caused by structural failure consistent with Rear Brake Caliper Bolt Fracture (GM 13247 / NHTSA 13V342) and Rear Axle Shaft/Pin Fracture (GM 14892 / NHTSA 14V819). This mechanical collapse caused the caliper to strike the wheel, resulting in a catastrophic rim blowout and immediate loss of tire pressure. Despite the vehicle having aftermarket long-tube headers installed, the root cause of the heat-related brake failure was the failure of the OEM GM manifold fasteners which snapped off in the cylinder head, as documented in the aforementioned bulletins. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the manufacturer remains liable for these pre-existing safety-critical defects. The vehicle is at Glenn Polk Chevrolet for a 901-series Product Allegation Investigation (Case #90199492). This report is filed to demand federal oversight into these life-threatening defects. The combo of failed fasteners, rim blowout, and compromised braking created a vehicle that was both unable to be steered or stoppedRead more

This electrical issue has been documented over 5 times and we have been told specifically by the dealers weve been towed or brought to "You may have drove it too hard" or "We reset the codes and the car is now driving fine" or "we can't find a problem". While traveling from Los Angeles, California to Tucson, Arizona with one passenger, the vehicle experienced a sudden and dangerous loss of multiple critical systems while driving at highway speed. Earlier during the trip the vehicle stopped in Quartzsite, Arizona. When attempting to re-enter the vehicle, the key initially did not unlock the vehicle. The driver contacted Range Rover roadside assist

Approximately one hour later, while driving eastbound on Interstate 10 at highway speed after dark, a yellow battery warning light appeared on the dashboard. Shortly afterward a red battery warning and a red triangle warning appeared. Within minutes of these warnings, the vehicle suddenly lost propulsion and the transmission shifted into neutral. Immediately afterward, the vehicle lost electrical power and the dashboard and exterior lights went dark. At the same time, steering assistance and brake assist were lost, making it extremely difficult to control the vehicle. The driver had difficulty steering the vehicle and slowing it safely while traveling on a busy highway with heavy truck traffic behind. Because steering assistance and brake assist were lost, the driver had very limited ability to maneuver the vehicle safely. The driver was able to slowly reduce speed and move across several lanes of traffic to the right shoulder of the highway, stopping near Exit 109 (Sun Valley Parkway) on Interstate 10. The vehicle stopped approximately 300 feet before the exit ramp. Because the vehicle had lost electrical power and exterior lighting, the vehicle was difficult for other drivers to see in the dark. Several large trucks passed close to the stopped vehicle. The driver used a mobile phone light to signal the vehicle’s presence and reduce the risk of being struck.
