While driving, my wheel often “sticks” and I have to over correct throughout the entire drive. I’m afraid it is going to get me in an accident. It becomes more noticeable at high speeds. I have to travel often for my job and recently have not felt safe while driving my car on the highway. It seems to be a common issue with the 2016 Civic and I’m not sure why there hasn’t been a recall.

When driving at freeway speeds the steering became very difficult. It felt like the car would become stuck in a groove and I had to pull the steering wheel to get it to go straight. I own a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle has a serious safety issue where the steering wheel shakes violently at freeway speeds, especially when driving over uneven roads or bumps. This makes the vehicle feel unsafe to operate. This issue was previously repaired under warranty with a steering damper replacement. However, the same problem has returned, indicating that the issue was not properly re
... solved. The dealership has recently verified the issue through a road test and confirmed the violent shaking condition. In addition, the vehicle currently has an active airbag warning light, and the dealership diagnosed a failed front right acceleration sensor. This raises concerns about the proper function of the airbag system in the event of a crash. I have contacted the manufacturer multiple times, but they have declined to provide assistance and have not been responsive. I am concerned that this vehicle has unresolved safety defects that could put the driver and passengers at risk.Read more

While driving, the steering can stick momentarily and cause a jerking of the steering wheel. When taking the vehicle to the Honda dealer, the recall for this issue only covers 23-25 cr-v vehicles and since there are no warning lights or codes for it, their recommendation is to drive the vehicle until it gets worse. The jerking of the wheel can cause loss of control and makes the vehicle a hazard.

Incident date: Apr 16, 2026
While driving at a low speed (approx. 5–10 mph), the front passenger-side lower ball joint suffered a catastrophic structural shear without warning. This caused the wheel assembly to collapse outward and the CV axle to pull out of the transmission. The failure caused a complete loss of steering control, veering the vehicle into a curb. Physical evidence (outward axle pull and high-side rim scrat
... ches) indicates the mechanical failure preceded the impact. This occurred at only 38,155 miles on a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV. Outward Dislocation: Photos show the CV axle pulled OUT of the transmission and the wheel leaning OUT (positive camber). A curb impact would push these components IN. This proves the wheel fell away from the car first. Pre-Impact Grinding: The interior barrel of the rim and the brake dust shield show heavy rotational grinding and metal-on-metal scoring. This confirms the suspension collapsed while the wheel was still spinning at speed, prior to the car coming to a stop. Structural Shear: The lower ball joint stud suffered a complete transverse shear. High-resolution photos of the broken stud face show distinct "beach marks" (concentric rings), which are the physical fingerprint of a slow-growing metal fatigue crack rather than a sudden impact fracture. Rim Damage Profile: Deep gouges are located on the flat face of the wheel spokes rather than the outer lip. This confirms the wheel was already at an extreme tilt (collapsed) when it made contact with the curb. CONCLUSION: The vehicle was maintained and driven under normal conditions. This was a spontaneous, catastrophic structural failure of a safety-critical component. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this as a potential manufacturing defect for the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV.Read more

While driving my KIA Optima on the interstate the rear subframe suffered catastrophic structural failure, resulting in the steering wheel going out of alignment, the rear passenger side wheel tilting with the bottom of the tire being far out compared to the top. This resulted in the rear of the vehicle swaying side to side and being difficult to maintain in a straight path. This vehicle was prev
... iously serviced under KIA Campaign SC141 (internal subframe corrosion) at Griffin KIA on April 27, 2017. Despite this safety remedy being performed the subframe rotted through and snapped. This is a remedy failure. The anti-corrosion was applied by the manufacturer failed to prevent the exact structural failure it was designed to mitigate. I have physical evidence (Repair Order #92144) proving the remedy was performed and photographic/video evidence of the subsequent structural break. The manufacturer (KIA) has denied assistance, claiming the failure is "unrelated" to the corrosion campaign despite the part being the exact component covered by the campaign." SC141 involved the inject of wax into the metal components of the subframe of the vehicle and was KIA's response to the NHSTA's concerns about the metal components of their vehicles being unable to withstand salt in the Rust Belt states. The campaign only was for the vehicles in the rust belt states. KIA was very aware this was a safety issue and attempted to avoid a recall by issuing this campaign. The campaign failed and as a result my life was put at risk. I asked KIA for a good will repair of the rusted subframe but they refuse indicating the believe the part that clearly broke due to rust is unrelated to the safety campaign. Several of their employees stated it was very clear the part broke due to rust with one indicating he had a list of rusted parts needing replaced. I'd like the NHTSA to review this failed campaign and ensure the safety of all vehicles relying on this failed safety measure.Read more

Clonninger Auto Body Shop 511 Jake Alexander Blvd S Salisbury NC 28147 The 2024 Bronco Sport owned by Megan Michaels was presented to our service department with a customer concern of a rattling noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, along with abnormal tire wear on the rear tires. Our Master Technician performed a road test and verified a clunking/rattling noise originating from the left re
... ar of the vehicle. The vehicle was then lifted, and a comprehensive inspection of the rear suspension system was completed. During inspection, it was determined that the left rear lower control arm mounting point at the body has structurally failed. The mounting location where the control arm attaches to the body has separated from the vehicle’s floor structure, allowing the control arm to shift from its proper position into the body cavity where it should normally be securely supported. This condition has caused: Excessive movement within the rear suspension system The confirmed clunking/rattling noise Abnormal rear tire wear due to improper alignment and instability Cause of Failure: The failure is the result of a structural separation of the lower control arm mounting point from the vehicle’s body. This is a failure of the vehicle’s structural floor assembly and is not related to a replaceable suspension component. Required Repair: Due to the extent of the structural damage, the vehicle will require replacement of the complete floor pan assembly in order to restore proper mounting integrity of the suspension system and ensure safe vehicle operation. If you have any questions or require additional documentation, please contact our service department directly.Read more

My 2021 Honda CR-V Touring model, with around 59000 miles on the odometer, has developed a problem in which the steering wheel gets "stuck" and resists being turned. Then, when more force is applied to turn the wheel, the steering mechanism suddenly "lets go", and this is accompanied by a clunking sound from the front of the vehicle. I first noticed this a few weeks ago, and at first the resist
... ance and noise was barely noticeable. However, since then, the degree of resistance and volume of the clunking sound have been steadily INCREASING. This has prompted me to get the problem diagnosed and repaired ASAP before it becomes more than just a distraction (I have an appointment with a dealier). Meanwhile, I've done some web research about the issue, and found a Honda news release dated October 9, 2024 that announces a recall for a steering problem with symptoms that EXACTLY MATCH the problem my CR-V is exhibiting. The same goes for the NHTSA "Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24V-744", which describes PRECISELY the same symptoms. Unfortunately, the safety recall only covers 2023 through 2025 Honda CR-V's, so repairs to my 2021 CR-V is not covered. However, it seems very likely that my vehicle DOES have the same issue. Accordingl, I am reporting this to the NHTSA to (1) provide a data point that may help in establishing the prevalence of this issue, and (2) encourage further research by NHSTA as to whether an expansion of the recall is warranted. I am also concerned about owners of vehicles that are not covered by the recall having to bear the repair costs. I will get it repaired one way or the other, but I'm certain that many others would be discouraged by the cost and choose not to have it repaired. The vehicle experienced a failure of the steering system, specifically the steering gearbox. The steering intermittently sticks, binds, and resists input, followed by sudden release, causing unpredictable response and difficulty maintaining control. The vehicle also pulls unexpectedly, creating a serious safety hazard, especially at highway speeds. The vehicle is unsafe to operate and is currently
... at a dealership for inspection. Prior to failure, symptoms included increasing steering resistance, inconsistent feel, and intermittent sticking, which worsened over time until the vehicle became undrivable. The issue has been diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized dealership, which determined the steering gearbox requires replacement. The dealership indicated the failure was not due to misuse, damage, or lack of maintenance. There are similar steering-related failures reported in comparable vehicles; however, this vehicle is excluded based on VIN eligibility. Despite similar failure, no recall coverage has been provided. This failure creates a high risk of loss of control and potential crash, with no warning lights or alerts prior to failure. The estimated repair cost exceeds $4,300 including parts and labor. The manufacturer has been contacted, but no resolution has been provided. This failure occurred during normal operation and was not caused by driver input or external damage. The sudden loss and return of steering control creates a dangerous condition that could result in a crash without warning. Given similar reported issues, this warrants investigation into a potential safety defect.Read more

The front lateral links, compliance links, and stabilizer bar link on my 2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range failed and required replacement in January 2026. Prior to failure, abnormal creaking and clunking noise from the front suspension began appearing weeks before the repair — no warning lights illuminated at any point. The failed components were replaced by a Tesla-certified Service Center and are
... no longer available for inspection. The failure was confirmed and repaired solely by the Tesla Service Center; no police, insurance representatives, or other parties inspected the vehicle. I was charged out of pocket for this repair. The lateral link separation risk directly endangers vehicle safety — if a fastener loosens sufficiently, the lateral link can detach from the subframe, causing sudden wheel misalignment and loss of steering control, which could result in a crash at any speed. Tesla issued recall 23V-235 (NHTSA campaign 23V235000) in March 2023 for this exact condition on 2018-2019 Model 3 vehicles.
