Honda - In 2016 I purchased a new Honda Civic Tour model from a dealership and currently have 23000 miles (23K) recently the steering became a problem. I took it to the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and was advised that there was an issue known as "notching" where a gear component became defective. It was dangerous to drive and there was no options but to have it repaired. The repair cost n
... early $4000.00 and I was shocked. There was no recall according to the service manager but it was known as a common problem. My wife and I are in our [XXX] and [XXX] so the cost was a large burden financially. I was told that Honda-America had a "Goodwill" program that will review a case and possibly offer some financial relief. I complied with the info Honda solicited and submitted the case for consideration. In the meantime, I had the car repaired at the dealership and paid in full. I didn't ask for any specific amount but told Honda I would be appreciative for any financial assistance. Obviously we seldom drive the car usually to doctor appointments and needed errands. The customer service rep called and said my claim was denied because of the age (9 yrs.) even in spite of only have less that 23K miles. The original tires are on the car and it still has the "new car" smell. My wife and I are very disappointed with Honda's lack of compassion, we even purchased an extended warranty from the dealership when we bought the vehicle but we never used it. Honda could have helped us but the service rep made the decision to deny the claim. The customer service that I thought Honda was known for is not the case anymore. I am reporting multiple serious issues with my 2016 Hyundai Sonata Sport 2.0, which has only 30,000 miles. Despite the low mileage, the vehicle is experiencing major safety and quality problems. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) light stays on constantly, indicating a system failure. On startup, the car sometimes applies the brakes by itself, and there’s a loud noise like something is stuc
... k or grinding. The traction control light also comes on during this. While driving, the car will suddenly slow down on its own, even when I’m not braking. When I press the gas pedal, it barely responds or takes too long to accelerate. Sometimes, this happens at the same time as the ESC warning, which feels extremely unsafe — especially on highways or in traffic. The push-to-start button often delays before the engine turns over, which is abnormal. The A/C system only blows warm air, regardless of temperature settings, and no cold air comes out. I also have a serious issue with the paint peeling off in large chunks from the body of the car. It’s happening despite proper care, and I’ve seen other Hyundai Sonatas of the same year with the same issue, which suggests a widespread paint defect. These issues have not yet been diagnosed by a dealership, but given the low mileage and frequency, I believe this model may have serious defects in safety systems and paint quality. I’m very concerned for my safety and request a full investigation.Read more

Incident date: Mar 28, 2025
The car developed "sticky steering". In a curve the steering would stick and then give way suddenly to continue the turn. The dealer said the electronic power steering rack was binding and it needed to be replaced. The safety issue was the sudden give to the steering which led to some overcorrection. When this problem was first identified in 2018 Honda recalled 54 cars which they said had a fa
... ulty part. Now they refuse to recall or pay for the power steering rack even though the problem is identical to the cars they recalled. The dealer's chief mechanic checked out my complaint in the parking lot, said he didn't need to drive it, he knew exactly what the problem was and had seen it in several other cars. There were no warning lamps or messages ever seen with this issue.Read more

Steering sticks at highway speeds, particularly around curves. While driving on the highway I noticed around curves that instead of the steering wheel straightening out on it's own (or with very minimal effort) the steering would stick and I had to force it out of that stick. It was very alarming at first and frankly terrifying with how badly it was stuck. I did have the lane keep assist on so I t
... hought maybe it was that, however I have since been driving this vehicle without the lane keep assist and although it doesn't stick as badly, it does indeed still stick. This issue occurs nearly each time I am going around a curve, sometimes when I am making slight turning maneuvers like lane switches, and rarely while going straight. The exception to that last one is when I have the lane keep assist on, then sometimes it will stick even when going straight. Now, before you start thinkin that this is somehow user error and I am unaware of how these systems are supposed to work. I was a service advisor for Honda for several years, I have driven many Hondas and many other vehicles with these types of systems; this is NOT supposed to happen and this is NOT normal. I have driven this car for just over a year and put over 20K miles on it and there is a distinct difference between normal operation and when the issue occurs. Additionally, there is a metal-on-metal clunk and what I think sounds like a very slight grind when turning the steering wheel fully to the left and right that comes from the steering box and you can feel that the steering wants to push you back in to the opposite direction. I believe that there is a connection between the steering and the lane keep assist for this issue and that it's related to Service Bulletin 18-103. However, I have not yet had this vehicle diagnosed at the dealership since I no longer work at Honda and I do not want to pay their diagnostic fee.Read more
