Unpredictable complete loss of power steering that will continue until the brakes are applied and speed is reduced to approximately 30 mph and voltage level spikes, as high as 16.3 volts as shown on the instrument panel. It is not temperature related. When disabled it requires two hands and extreme strength to turn, especially when taking an off ramp. Voltage level is typically ranging between 1
... 2.7 - 13.7 volts during normal conditions as well as when in no power steering conditions. The first trip 3-4 months ago to the dealership and the only finding was a corroded ground loop which did not solve the issue. After no success begging for a loaner car we left the Jeep 19JUN25 while on vacation for second trip this week. I requested them to contact Stellantis STAR Center and this is the report: 24JUN25 Good morning - our STAR case engineer pointed us in the direction of a similar STAR publication that we had followed the last visit. I did not find any faults within the charging system or any voltage regulators at this point. There were 5 labeled grounds in this publication that were common for building up corrosion. The ground that is on the frame near the driver rear close to the 48v battery had a large amount of corrosion. He cleaned up each ground and applied dielectric grease yesterday, so now I am having him take on a few test drives to see if the issue persists. I have a video of the spike leading to steering reengagement but unable to upload it.Read more

The Service Power Steering light came on while I was driving my truck on I80 and left me with no power steering. While I was driving on the interstate there were several times where the vehicle didn't want to turn unless I really jerked on the steering wheel which in turn jerked the truck into the passing lane once the wheels turned and came close on 2 occasions of hitting the vehicle in the passin

I see that there was a recall for this exact problem for Ram trucks up to year 2016 but unfortunately mine is a 2017. I have been on many forums and there are so many others out there with a 2017 or newer Ram that has this exact same problem so this isn't a "my truck" problem this is a Ram problem that needs to be recalled before accidents are caused by this (which I'm sure some accidents have already happened due to the steering rack).Read more

We started to have "catches" in the steering wheel when driving - from just small catches when turning the steering wheel to more noticeable occurrences. This had been ongoing for several months prior to taking it into the Hertrich Honda dealership in Easton, Md. (We had, previously, taken it into the mechanic that regularly services our cars but they could not recreate the problem), The Hertrich
... service tech had to drive it several times before experiencing the problem and ID'd it as an issue with the steering rack, requiring replacement. We, then contacted Honda Corporate (05/21/2025) as we saw that a recall had been issued back in September, 2018 (1 month after we purchased our CR-V) for same year and model cars as ours for "Steering : Electric power assist system" - recall# 18V663000. We explained our issue and asked if it would be covered for repairs as it appeared to be the same. We were told that since our vehicle was not included in the recall and that the repair that the dealer listed as being necessary - "replacing steering rack (53620-TLA-A13)) is not the same as the recall repair authorized, "...the steering gearbox assembly...". A follow-up call to the dealership service manager to clarify the difference resulted in being told that they are essentially the same repair, that they do not replace the steering rack without the steering gearbox assembly for that model. Calling Honda, again, for additional clarification we were told that, from their viewpoint they are separate repairs and would not authorize coverage. However, they are willing to provide a "Customer Good Will Adjustment" to the quoted dealer repair estimate of $5,020. and reduce it to $3,500. As it appears that we have no other alternative, we will be contacting Honda to accept this and arrange to schedule the service. Also, as an aside the service manager at Hertrich told us that we wouldn't believe how many of these repairs they have had to do on these Civics and CR-V'sRead more

Vehicle Information: * Make: Toyota * Model: Corolla Hybrid AWD * Model Year: 2024 * Current Mileage: [14,000] * Mileage When Problem Noticed: ~8,000-9,000 miles Incident Description: My 2024 Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD has a severe steering defect. After a right turn, the steering wheel consistently fails to return to center, remaining 5-15 degrees (up to 20 for sharp turns) off-center to the
... right. It does not self-correct. Occasionally, this also occurs after left turns, but less frequently. The vehicle requires constant, active manual correction to stay straight. If I release the wheel, the car can drift right, posing a significant collision risk. The steering feels "floaty" and lacks the expected resistance to return to center. This issue began abruptly around 8,000-9,000 miles. Multiple dealership visits and alignment checks have not resolved it. No prior accidents or modifications. The Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) system functions smoothly, keeping the car centered. However, immediately after disengaging LTA, the manual steering defect reappears, indicating an underlying mechanical problem, not an electronic one. Safety Concern: This defect creates a serious safety hazard. It demands constant driver attention and effort, leading to distraction and fatigue. This compromises directional stability and significantly increases accident risk, as the car will veer off course if not continuously corrected. I urge NHTSA to investigate this defect. Similar "sticky steering" or "poor return to center" issues are reported in other modern vehicles, and Toyota itself issued CSP 22TE02 for a related "slower to return to center" issue in 2018 Camry models, proving this is a known type of defect, not normal operation.Read more
