The power steering randomly turns off. This is a known Chevrolet recall from the prior year model (2015) and it was recalled. I have just over 100k miles on my truck and I cannot have family members drive it because they are not strong enough to turn the wheel. If it went out on a turn the truck would plow right into oncoming traffic. It is not safe! The repair parts are $1000 with a total cost of
... closer to $4000. A person will trade it in before that happens. It is frustrating because we have a truck to pull and move things as needed, and we have to think about what we are doing and work around the steering issue.Read more

I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2021 Kia Telluride experiencing repeated and dangerous electronic system failures while driving. Kia of East Syracuse (NY) diagnosed the issue as related to the backup camera assembly and communication/network failures. While driving, the vehicle experienced loss of power steering assist, instrument cluster failure, speedometer malfunction, incorrect gea
... r indication, backup camera activation while driving forward, blind spot warnings activating incorrectly, flashing/blank temperature display, and multiple driver assistance system failures. The speedometer displayed 0 mph while the vehicle was in motion and later displayed approximately 40 mph while stopped at a traffic light. The vehicle also became stuck in reverse while backing out of my driveway and would not shift properly, leaving the vehicle stopped in the roadway. Multiple safety systems malfunctioned simultaneously, including Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Parking Distance Warning, and Forward Collision Warning systems. The dealership documented multiple fault codes and stated the dashboard lit up “like a Christmas tree” while the instrument cluster stopped functioning entirely. These failures create a serious safety risk because critical driving information and driver assistance systems become unreliable or inoperative while the vehicle is moving. The failures occur unexpectedly and without warning. Photos and video evidence have been retained, including video of the backup camera activating while driving forward and the speedometer malfunctioning while the vehicle was in motion. I am asking NHTSA investigate these failures as a potential safety defect involving the camera system, instrument cluster communication systems, and CAN network communication failures in the Kia Telluride.Read more

Subject: Formal Safety Complaint – Structural Manufacturing Defect – 2021 VW Atlas Cross Sport (VIN: [XXX] ) To the NHTSA and Volkswagen Customer CARE: I am formally reporting a significant safety hazard regarding my 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. Incident Details: Incident Date: 05/07/2026 Current Mileage: 76,305 miles VIN: [XXX] Supporting Documentation: See attached files image.png
... and image_2.png. Description of the Problem (Per Certified Technician): As documented in the attached invoice from Vacaville Volkswagen (image.png), the vehicle was brought in for a "steering concern" involving clunking noises and swaying at freeway speeds. After a test drive and inspection, the technician found: The left front control arm front bolt was loose. Three other bolts were not tightened to specification. The noise and instability were caused by the resulting movement of the control arm. The Issue: While the dealership identified the improperly secured hardware and torqued all bolts and nuts to specification, they declined to cover the repair under warranty or recall, resulting in a labor charge of $230.00. Loose and under-torqued structural bolts on a control arm are not maintenance or "wear and tear" items; they represent a critical manufacturing and assembly failure. This component is vital to the vehicle's steering and suspension geometry. Evidence of a Systematic Issue: This defect directly mirrors several existing Volkswagen safety recalls for the Atlas line involving improperly torqued chassis and suspension hardware, such as Recall 42HX and Recall 40R7. It is clear that my 2021 model was impacted by the same production lapses identified in these adjacent recalls. Requested Action: For the NHTSA: I request that this incident be documented to investigate whether the scope of current suspension recalls should be expanded to include the 2021 model year. For Volkswagen USA: I am requesting a goodwill reimbursement of $230.00. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5Read more

I was leaving the parking lot at XXX downtown [XXX] around 12:30 a.m. with my passenger when the vehicle out of nowhere started throwing multiple errors and warnings. BMW assistance was not able to provide Tow Service due to the time of the hour and availability so I called Boca Raton police department and they provided with a towing service to the dealership at BMW Coconut Creek where the car has been since. The service at the above dealership is currently inspecting the car and I'm looking to find out the result of their investigation. I am submitting this on behalf of my daughter, [XXX] . On Friday, May 8, 2026, [XXX] was traveling southbound on Highway 89A approaching [XXX] . Highway 89A is a narrow, winding two-lane canyon road with limited shoulder and significant elevation changes. While still on the canyon road, her 2020 Chevrolet Equinox suddenly lost all power, including power assist to both steering and brakes. A sudd
... en loss of power steering and brake assist on this road presented a serious risk of loss of vehicle control. Fortunately, she was able to get the car stopped off of the roadway. However, she was then unable to place the car into Park or shut off the ignition. Multiple warning lights were illuminated across the instrument cluster. Her roadside assistance plan towed the car to the nearest repair facility, where on Monday, technicians were unable to replicate the issue. A previously stored DTC P3055 was found in the diagnostic system. This code relates to a known and documented issue with Chevrolet Equinox vehicles, for which Chevrolet has issued multiple Technical Service Bulletins, including TSB 21-NA-139, which identifies the Multifunction Power Supply Converter (GM Part #13510484) as the known culprit for this failure mode. Tesla just sold me a car with defective front half shafts axles. The car makes a reproducible and very concerning accelerator pedal shudder that makes the entire vehicle front vibrate, including the steering wheel and brake pedals while the car is accelerating between 30-60mph. This interferes with safety features like, lane departure assistance and blind spot steering wheel feedback, Confusing th
... e driver and creating a distracting scenario where an accident can happen. Upon bringing this to the attention of the service center in Fort Myers Florida, the service center manager took a drive test with me, and was able to replicate the issue, but immediately started dismissing it as "normal" and within Tesla specs. This is becoming a regular practice at that service center, where they deem warrantable issues as normal and within (their tolerance). I insisted that this issue is not to be taken likely by Tesla, because it is something that involves a safety hazard. Upon further research, I was able to find that this issue is happening to many Teslas model S and X, where the front axles bend due to the weight and high torque of the vehicles. The issue falls completely under warranty and the half shafts should be replaced, but apparently Tesla has instructed their service centers to dismiss and disregard the symptoms, and just tell the customers that no warranty replacement will occur, because it is not necessary, we just have to drive the cars like this, until the car completely fails, or an accident happens because one of the bent axle shafts breaks on a highway during normal drive. I recording this report as evidence that the issue has been reported to the highest vehicle safety authorities, and I expect a corrective action so Tesla can fix my car under the existing unexpired warranty.Read more

While attempting a slow right turn from a complete stop at an intersection, I heard a loud thunk sound followed by an immediate loss of power steering response. The steering wheel spun freely with little resistance while the front tires did not respond proportionally. I was able to safely pull over. Upon restarting the vehicle it produced an abnormal wheezing sound suggesting additional mechanical
... stress. At the time of the failure the vehicle had approximately 40,000 miles, which I believe represents a premature failure for a safety-critical steering component. The vehicle was brought to a Hyundai dealership for inspection. The dealer pulled diagnostic fault codes, found none, performed a 20-minute test drive, and returned the vehicle stating they could not find anything wrong. No physical inspection of the steering components was performed. The failure condition — a slow full-lock turn from a complete stop — was never specifically replicated during the dealer's test drive. The problem has not been confirmed or repaired by the dealer. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of other drivers was put at risk by the sudden and unexpected loss of steering control. No warning lights appeared prior to or during the failure.Read more

I am reporting a serious safety issue involving my 2019 Subaru Forester related to failure of the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system. Since April 21, 2026, I have been in communication with Subaru of America regarding whether this issue is related to an existing safety recall (WUC-88). During this time, I provided detailed information about multiple occurrences of EPS warning light activation a
... nd intermittent loss of steering assist while driving. A local repair shop also inspected the vehicle and confirmed EPS-related diagnostic trouble codes (including B2811 and C2512), which are consistent with known EPS issues. This information was shared with Subaru of America; however, I did not receive a clear or actionable response, and the case has been delayed without resolution. Initially, the issue was intermittent, with the EPS warning light turning on and off. However, since May 9, 2026, the EPS warning light has remained continuously ON, indicating that the condition has worsened. On May 11, 2026, I visited an authorized Subaru service center while the EPS warning light was actively ON. Despite the issue being clearly present, the dealership only took photos confirming the EPS warning light and did not perform any additional diagnostic testing or repair. They advised that the EPS rack needs replacement at an estimated cost of approximately $2,500, with the part currently on backorder and no clear repair timeline. I have already reported this visit and the current condition to Subaru of America and am still awaiting a response. This issue involves intermittent and now persistent loss of steering assist while driving, causing the steering wheel to become extremely stiff and difficult to control. This poses a significant safety risk. Given that the issue has been ongoing since April, has been confirmed by both a repair shop and a Subaru dealer, and remains unresolved, I believe this represents a safety defect that is not being properly addressed. I own a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The vehicle has an intermittent steering concern where the steering wheel feels like it sticks, catches, or becomes notchy during normal driving. It is most noticeable when making small steering corrections to stay centered in the lane, and I have also noticed it during turns, including while entering an on-ramp. The component/system I believe is malfunctioning is the st
... eering system, potentially the electric power steering and/or steering gear assembly. This creates a safety concern because the steering does not always feel smooth or predictable. When the steering wheel momentarily resists input or feels stuck, it can require extra effort to correct. This could increase the risk of delayed steering input, overcorrection, or difficulty maintaining the intended path of travel, especially at highway speeds or on curved roads. Mazda Safety Recall 6524A / NHTSA Campaign 24V-022 was previously performed on this vehicle. Despite the recall repair being completed, the sticky/notchy steering condition is still occurring intermittently. The problem was evaluated by a Mazda service department. During the service visit, Mazda service personnel also felt issues with the steering. I was informed they are looking for Mazda to follow up, including any additional guidance related to NHTSA Recall Query RQ26002, which I understand is reviewing sticky steering/increased steering effort after the original 24V-022 recall remedy. I am submitting this complaint because the vehicle is experiencing steering symptoms similar to Mazda Safety Recall 6524A / NHTSA Campaign 24V-022, even though the original recall remedy was already performed. The continued sticky/notchy steering behavior appears consistent with the type of post-remedy concern being reviewed under NHTSA Recall Query RQ26002 and presents a safety concern.Read more

Its really an issue of "when" the ESL will fail on older models and not "if". The kicker is, the dealership said only they can fix the problem as it is an anti-theft issue. This seems very wrong, owners shouldn't be forced to pay Mercedes to fix their defective, cheap electric motors in the ESL that fail on almost every model that its in. These defective motors are what causes the steering lock failure in almost every instance. MB acts like its normal to be driving properly one day and then next your steering is completely locked and your car will not start because a $15 electronic motor in the ESL failed. ... r of 2025. But now find myself with the plagued steering issue that notches at center when you try to lane correct or bend into a turn. It is alarming and while manageable at slower speeds in town, I intended to use this car to teach my daughter to drive. I am concerned for the safety and chance of over correcting while driving already hazardous winter conditions in northern Maine that this poses a legitimate risk at highway speeds. Thank you taking my report with consideration. Please take care.Read more

While driving the steering wheel will intermittently lock up or make it where you cannot turn the steering wheel at all. The collision sensors will go off and cause vehicle to lock the brakes up when you’re not even close to anything. Also, random messages will appear in dash as shift to neutral while driving ect. See pictures.

Yes it's available for inspection. No professional has confirmed it yet because frankly , I shouldn't have to pay for this , but I need to take it in this week. While driving down the road goin around 45 mph all of a sudden my steering wheel got so stiff I could hardly steer the car off the road and out of traffic. I didn't hit anything, my power steering just stopped. I put the car into park and turned off the ignition after a few minutes I started it back up and my steering was back to normal. I am the owner of a 2024 Honda Accord Sport Hybrid. When driving at very low speeds, especially while parking or turning the steering wheel in tight maneuvers, the steering system produces a noticeable knocking and clunking noise. The noise can also be felt through the steering wheel. The vehicle was previously inspected by an authorized Honda dealer, and the steering gearbox (steering rack) was
... replaced under the factory warranty due to this issue. After approximately 20,000 miles, the exact same problem has returned. The condition is most noticeable at low speeds and during parking maneuvers when turning the steering wheel left or right. There are no warning lights or messages on the dashboard. The issue has been confirmed previously by a Honda dealer through the original warranty repair. Because the same steering-related problem has reappeared after replacement of a major steering component, I am concerned about the durability and safety of the steering system. I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA can investigate whether the 2024 Honda Accord Hybrid may have a recurring defect in the steering gearbox or related steering components.Read more

My 2018 Honda CR-V LX (approx. 40,920 miles) has an electric power steering (EPS) rack that sticks and catches at highway speeds, typically above 35 mph. The steering wheel requires extra force to turn, then suddenly releases, creating a snap/lurch effect. This behavior poses a significant overcorrection risk during highway lane changes and gradual curves. There were no warning lights or messages
... prior to or during the problem. The issue presented gradually and has been consistent above the noted speed threshold. A Honda dealership diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed the fault. Their process included a test drive to reproduce the sticking, reproduction while stationary, and further confirmation with the vehicle lifted — turning the steering wheel by hand with the wheels off the ground. In that condition, the technician heard and identified clicking and popping from inside the rack, isolating the fault to the EPS rack assembly itself. The dealer's written recommendation is replacement of the EPS rack at a cost of $3,917.31 plus tax. The component is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or the manufacturer beyond the dealership visit described above. I am aware that NHTSA has previously investigated EPS gearbox faults on related Honda platforms involving worm gear/worm wheel defects, and that TSB 23-037 was issued for 2022–23 Civics describing an identical symptom. I believe my 2018 CR-V is affected by the same underlying defect. No repair has been performed at this time.Read more

Steering wheel binds up wile making right truns around the 1 o'clock position.

My steering wheel has been sticking and it can be very scary when it happens. The Honda dealership just quoted us 4,700 to replace the steering rack. We bought our car brand new, no issues or accidents, and only has 44,000 miles. Upon research this exact problem is a big issue with similar year / makes and models but our specific VIN has no recall for this. Very upsetting.
